Is the item defective?** A: Hello, there is a tether to attach to the dogs collar so they can't jump out. I wonder if for some reason yours is missing. It is anchored to the bottom of the seat. My dog as a puppy chewed it off. I really like the seat and would buy it again. Hope this helps. **Q: Are the bottom and sides hard?** A: Bottom is hard, sides are a structured frame with mesh for the dog to see out. We love this car seat Because our dog wants to put his paws up on the edge so he can see out of the car but the frame stays in tact and doesn't collapse like other carriers we've had in the past **Q: Does this have a top flap to zip if used as a carrier?** A: Yes it does. It makes a wonderful carrier for a small dog or cat. **Q: Is this airline approved?** A: I'm pretty sure it would not be approved. For flying you need an actual carrier that would fit under the seat, not on the seat. I believe an animal can be on a seat on some airlines but would pay full fare. I just found out that you must remove pet from carrier to go through security and cage or carrier must be metal free. It is sturdy and protective. My Havanese fits in it just fine. I have used it once...this was my dogs first ride in a car without being held. She did get car sick. The travel seat cleaned up well. Inside, the cover on the removable base has a zipper to remove it. I tossed it in the washer and dryer and put it back on the plastic base. It was as good as new. The rest of the material cleaned up easily with my Norwex cloth. This car carrier attaches to the seat easily with the two straps enclosed. I love the neutral gray color and washability of the material. In addition, the top cover can be zipped closed or left open for your dog to poke her head out. There is another restraint inside to clip you dog’s collar to it to protect your pet. I didn’t want a “booster” that propped her up, just something secure that she can nestle into on car trips, and doubles as a “bag” when I have to bring her somewhere. She feels very secure and jumps right in on her own! Looks like it will hold up with sturdy material. And it’s collapsible for easy storing when not in use. This would even work as a car seat for a slightly larger dog, but probably not zipped up (just keep the top open if they’re too tall.) This car booster seat / pet carrier impressed me as I first started to zip it together.This is the third car seat for my Honey Girl.What nice sturdy material that felt like quality. Stitching is strong and neat with no tell tales showing, no puckers puckering out. The long zipper zipped up so smoothly, every corner fit as the shape started to appear. After putting it together both my Chi-weenie and calico cat took turn claiming it as their own.Installation was a breeze and that presented the only ding I have so far for this product... it did not fit absolutely perfectly in the front seat of my Toyota Rav4... Not a bad fit, mind you, but not as perfect tight against the curved seat back as I would have preferred... so, Hey! not bad over all.Honey had no trouble at all climbing into it and out of her new seat on her own.If you need a nicely built and well constructed car booster seat for small dogs (or cat) then buy this product. I recommend it on my initial experience out of the box.
