Fits a little big and the brim is bigger then most
The hat is mostly what you would expect I guess. So I tried not to compare this to the one I was issued back in the late 80's since I am sure the current issue is different now. But some things that were different then the one I was issued in the Marine Corps back then... it runs a little bigger in size but not so much that is unwearable. The brim is a bit bigger then the one I was issued or really anyone that I have ever had, this might be a good or bad thing, it looks a little odd to me but it does cover more area from the sun/rain. There is a felt sweat band and the inside top of the hat is felt which to me seems like it keeps in more hot air, however it does hold more water is you dunk your hat in water to keep you cool. Over all not a bad hat. There were no defects in it and it does the job of keeping the sun off your head and the brim supplies a good amount of shade.

Great for protecting your head especially for us fairskinned redheads doing yard/garden work at home
Its funny how in 5 years of marine Corps life I wore a boonie cover maybe once that whole time (and it was a woodland cammie bonnie cover), I lost it after I got out so I recently bought this boonie cover. I live in the middle of nowhere and have to cut about 12 acres of land fairly often and being a fair-skinned redhead I get sunburnt very easily. I wear wool/tweed flatcaps nearly all the time but those trap a lot of heat (which can be a problem in GA as we get near summertime) and dont provide much protection from the sun. I decided I would look for a cover that did more to provide protection from the sun as well as one that would breathe a lot more than a tweed flatcap and I eventually came across this particular cover. I can tell a huge difference, my head doesnt have as much heat trapped next to it as this has vents and is made from a lighter material and with this being a boonie cover it provides a 360 degree area of protection that a ballcap or flatcap does not provide. This boonie cover is very comfortable, I could wear it all day, doesnt trap in heat like another hat/cover would and helps keep my neck, ears and face from getting a nasty sunburn even with SPF 50 sunscreen. Plus there is the added bonus of having the Eagle, Globe and Anchor because Im proud to have earned the title, I just wont wear the cover in town since it goes against uniform regs to wear cammie uniform items in town, even though Ive been out for years

Not even close to my expectation
Cheap knock-off of a military grade Boonie. For the money it's a complete waste. If it was an $6-8 circus hat, ok but certainly not a $30 hat.

Not what I expected
Let me just say it's a fine hat, I have no problems with the quality of construction, fit, and appearance. I was just a bit surprised at the material it's constructed of. I expected this to be of cotton, canvas, or some type of woven material, only to find that it's constructed of some type of vinyl similar to a rain coat. While it does have a label inside that refers to "Mil Spec" it also lists "Hot Weather " which its definitely not a hat you would want to wear in hot weather, unless you like an excessively sweaty head. While it does have a few vent holes these are no where near what it would take to ventilate this hat properly, it traps sweat similar to a hardhat. I had originally purchased this to use as a hunting hat, but it turns out to way to hot for normal hunting in which there is any activity involved. I have however kept this in my pack, as I do believe it will make a good rain hat if I get stuck in the rain while hunting. Nevertheless I'm still searching for the perfect safety orange boonie hat which has been quite difficult lately, as for some reason fewer companies are making safety orange hunting hats of this style to replace my Cabelas branded Goretex boonie which has faded away its color quite a bit over the past many years of use.
