Glad I bought it. *by D***. on August 8, 2020* I bought the Mortech Blind Spot Detection device with cross traffic alert about a year ago. I am very glad I did.What it does it does it does extremely well (the equal of many OEM units). I would give it five stars except that it lacks one feature I want, although in fairness it isn't that important a feature.As the ad says, except for the cross traffic alert feature, you need to be going over about 35 mph to receive alerts. You mount the alert lights on your dash board, the inside door frame, or a similar place of your choosing. (Unlike OEM products the alert lights are not mounted on the outside mirrors. That may even be for the best as you are not using your peripheral vision to see them.) I suggest mounting the alert lights where there in a shady place as the alert lights are harder to see when direct sunlight shines on them.The alert systems is very accurate and has never failed to alert me when a vehicle overtaking me or along side me is in my blind spot. When another car over takes your car the corresponding right or left alert light illuminates. In addition to the alert light illuminating if your signal light is on it also beeps to warn you there is a car in your blind spot. (So do not forget to use your signal lights when changing lanes,)The alert system detects cars in two lanes on your left or right and illuminates the corresponding alert light and/or beeps. That is important as it prevents "fox four" collisions that can occur when, for example, a car in the number one lane and a car in the number three lane are simultaneously trying to change into the number two laneβ€”the lane in between them.The unit works well day or night and in heavy rain. I suspect a lot of accumulated snow or mud on the rear bumper might cause a problem, but I have not been in a heavy winter setting to test my suspicion.The cross traffic alert works well. It operates at low speeds so it works well in parking lots.False alerts are very rare. The only time I have received a false alert was when making a U-turn at a traffic light and the cross traffic detection went off thinking I was backing up and another car was behind me. And that is rare as it has only happened two or three times.As the ad says, this is not a do-it-yourself project. You need to remove the bumper and know something about wiring. It also seems to me that the correct placement of the sensors is critical to the unit functioning properly.I have read complaints about the instructions that come with the unit. I suspect the complaints were written by "do-it-youselfers" who were over their heads. I had the unit installed at an auto eclectic shop by a mechanic who only knew a few words of English (like red, black, and white). I am a bilingual Anglo; I offered to translate the instructions for him, but after he looked at the wiring diagram he said that was not necessary as the diagram provided him with everything he needed to know. (And it did! The unit is functioning perfectly.)So why didn't I give this device five stars? As I stated above, the unit alerts when another car overtakes your car, but, sadly, it does not alert when you overtake another car. (A feature found on some OEM units.) That is not a big deal as it should be obvious when you have passed another car, but I would still like it to alert when I am passing another car as well as when another car is overtaking me or along side me.
