Using these tool definitely made it much easier than trying to fumble along with a knife and small screwdriver. Cutting and trimming the cable was easy to do (including scoring the outer sheath to remove it without damaging the smaller wires within it). This is the first time I've used a punch down tool like this too - in the past, I've tried trimming down the individual cables to the right length, and then used a tiny screwdriver to push the wires into the back of the socket... I'll now never do that ever again! Buy and use the punch down tool instead, as you simply push down on the wire until it clicks, which means the cable is securely in place, and it clips / trims the wire to the right length at the same time!
