I never had a problem with the three-prong design of the official N64 controller, but while the thumbstick's design did not have longevity in mind. The plastic on plastic grinding would literally pulverize the stick and it would become loose and unresponsive. Most cheap third-party replicas follow that original flaw, and boy, there are so many of them. And the GCN thumbstick to N64 conversion kit you find out there is NOT the solution you might think it is, not yet.Sure, we have the Brawler, the Admiral, the Tribute, the Horipad, lots of options are now available. What if you are a purist or simply like the original N64 design, minus the trash thumbstick? Enter this controller. This one caught my eye thankfully because the high resolution images showed me that it had a different design of thumbstick, you can see that the base is different. I bought it because of that, as I had seen that design in other controllers and when I got it here, it felt exactly like I imagined it would. It's a gigantic improvement over the original and it feels more akin to more thumbsticks. It is very smooth, very precise and just all around great. Will it last? I hope so, because it is a great design. Kudos to the manufacturer for going above and beyond, improving the design.What kept me from giving it 5 stars is the d-pad. Like in so many other third-party and even first-party controllers of today, the d-pad is atrocious, horrendous, abhorrent, ghastly, a crime against humanity and a dark stain on all that is good and decent about d-pads. If the N64 had lots of 2d games like the SNES, I would give this controller a much lower rating. I am a big Mortal Kombat fan, so playing Trilogy with this was torturous. One of the worst d-pads I ever used, it feels nasty and misread inputs, such as pressing down causing it to go diagonal. The mistake is always the same, short or not d-pad pivot under the ring, making it unable to rock properly. The only d-pad I would rate lower than this is the Xbox 360, which is abominable. But listen, the analog stick on this thing is so great, that it more than deserves its 4 stars. Bonus points for adding the funtastic color shells, I got the green one to go with the translucent jungle green console.Would I recommend it? Yes, 100%. The price is also great. Like a d-pad here and there? Get an original d-pad from a broken N64 controller, open this one up and make the swap, then you are all set with a perfect N64 wired controller that will not simply feel like the original, but greatly surpass it.

Excellent. My old controllers were destroyed after years of goldeneye. Was very pleased with the quality of these replacements and will probably bit again in the future

Only used a couple of times so time will tell on durability, but so far it works brilliantly. It feels indistinguishable from an official controller and better than an old third party controller I have.

was abit up in the air about this but went for it any way after reading reviews and iv gotta say they are all right. The stick does feel so much better than the original i would definitely recommend it i will be buying more

Great quality, honestly I think this is as good as the original N64 ones which I'm surprised at as back in the day 3rd party controllers were always disappointing, not so here.

Works brilliant! My original controllers sadly came to their end and after buying many replacements none worked except this one. Use it everyday on my Nintendo 64 and not one single problem, just like my original. I highly suggest if your looking for quality not just best value.

You can't easily tell that this isn't an OG N64 controller. Everything feels great. Only difference is that the control stick feels a bit more sturdy, though that might just be because all the originals have had years of wear while this hasn't. I saw one review that said the D-pad was bad but had no similar issue. Perhaps they upgraded it before my purchase.Fully recommend.

I got the controller plugged it into the n62 worked like a dream to start with. i tried out some games that needed to used the analog stick and i found that when you pushed it either left or right it never sprung back to center. but other than that issue it worked like a dream and felt great. Ive just ordered a replacement i hope this one works better.
