HP® Scanjet G4050 High-Speed USB Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600dpi

Still a superior scanner at this price.Scans everything in three separate colors and includes a separate scan head for transparencies.I sought this scanner out.For me: If I color scan old and original black and white camera negatives, the three scan process will often capture latent color present but unseen in the negative yet created in the final scan file.

The software did not work on my Windows 7 computer (2 gB storage, 12 gB ram, Intel i3 processor). HP Product support concluded it was a hardware problem, so I sent it back. The new one had the same problem. After 3 hours on the phone and allowing HP technicians to take over my computer and download heaven knows what, they could not make it work & gave up. It works on a (very old) computer running Windows XP, BUT NOT ON WINDOWS 7. To my way of thinking this is INTOLERABLE.

The Good:The hardware is fine, good quality and not too unreasonable design in terms of ergonomics. SLOOOOOOOW! The box does good work but you need patience.Now the bad:Documentation is non-existent and the software to operate this device requires a Bletchley Park effort to deduce the mysterious inner workings of the deranged software genius's (Asian?) mind that HP hired to write this application. Yet a persistent soul can get high quality scans from it with patience.

I have only used for scanning slides. Scanner renders very good reproduction of the slides in their current condition. A bit noisy and takes about 30 minutes for 16 slides. At under 2 minutes per slide it is not bad, comparing with a one-slide device. It allows you to do something else while the scanning is taking place. I recommend.

I have almost 2000 mounted slides from the 60-70's and wanted a fast scanner to download them into my laptop. I can do 16 slides per scan which takes about 5 minutes to finalize. It is the fastest one I found after research for the price (just under $200). quality of the images is very good.

The product did exactly what I wanted. The speed was the only negative aspect.

Received G4050 and unit was packaged well and everything looked good. Setup was easy and unit worked fine except every time I lift top half of scanner the hinges pulled out of the bottom half. I contacted the shipper and they offered to replace it. I ended up loosening the nut and bolts that join the two halves of the hinge. The hinges still pull out if I am not real careful. Too much trouble to return and get another. Not sure if they are all like this or mine is just special. Shipper was fine and answered my concerns quickly.

Too early to comment on in any detail; I will have to wait and use it properly before I can comment.

Ich schliesse mich dieser Rezension völlig an, hinzufügen, dass mit Apple gar nichts geht..Die Software zum HP Scanjet G4050 ist gelinde gesagt eine Zumutung, um nicht zu sagen absolut ein Zumutung. Ich habe die Software, da ich eine deutsche Sprachversion im Bedientableau des Scanners sehen wollte, die Software 3x aufgespielt. Ergebnis war, dass der Rechner, ein Sony Vaio mit dem Betriesbsystem Windows Vista Home Premium, die Softwarebzw. den HP Scanjet G4050 nicht mehr erkannte bzw. aktivieren konnte. Auch mein Versuch, die Software für Windowas Vista von der HP Homepage herunterzuladen, um das Problem zu lösen, brachte nicht das gewünschte Ergebnis - Nutzung des Scanners. Sollten Sie den Scanner kaufen, vermeiden Sie unbedingt, ein mehrfaches Löschen und Laden der Software. Offenbar ist darin eine Sperre instlliert, die die Scanner unbrauchbar macht. Was soll man also mit einem Scanner, der wegen absolut ungeeigneter Software nicht funktioniert. Zudem wurde mir, nachdem ich mich bei der Sofftware-"Schmiede" angemeldet hatte, kurzfristig eine aktuelle und angeblich verbesserte Software in der Version 11 für rd. 100 € angeboten - Subskriptionpreis, soll später ca. 142 € kosten. Mir erscheint das Vorgehen des Solftwarehauses, das von HP beauftragt wurde, als eine Art "Geiselnahme". Entweder man kauft die neue Softwareversion, oder man kann den Scanner nicht mehr verwenden.Der Verkäufer, deltatecc hat mich völlig überrascht.Eine Rücknahme war vornherein ausgeschlossen, Gewährlestung für sechs Monate, die Kommunikation was unglaublich schleppend und unhöflich,nahezu patzig, obwohl auf die fehlerhafte software hingewiesen wurde bestand man auf eine Reperatur des Gerätes, mit eeeben erwartendem Erfolg, es hatte sich nichts geändert.Somit bin ich seit zehn Monaten mit der Sache beschäftigt, es hätte ausgereicht die mangelhaftze Qualität anzuerkennen um mir ein neues Gerät kaufen zu können.minus fünf Sterne für das Geschäftsgebaren.

I Had 7000 slides to get into my computer and onto memory card/disc. At 16 per scan it was excellent didn't need standing over, and I could improve the scan quality on any slides I wanted to individually. Soft ware is brilliant. Scans old photos too - Excellent bit of machinery.
