my favorite knife
I have a few pocket knives and this one is by far my favorite! After carrying it every day for a few weeks I can see why so many people rave about spyderco. It's the perfect size for an EDC blade. It has the same cutting edge length as a victorinox knife, but is far superior in strength, ergonomics, and ease of use. The blade shape is great - excellent for piercing, straight line cuts, paring, slicing, etc. and the solid lockup feels safe and reliable. The jimped thumb ramp behind the spyder hole is a wonderful addition for grip stability, and also as a place to rest the side of your finger when doing paring or peeling cuts. The knife came really sharp and seems to have a high degree of durability. The overall shape of the closed knife may look a little unusual to some. The plus side of the asymmetrical design is that my hand learned exactly how it is holding the knife just by feel, and I can pull it out of my pocket and have it open and ready to use without even looking at it. The large thumb hole is a bit of genius that you don't really get a sense of how great it is until you've tried it for a few days. With a little practice, one handed closing also becomes second nature. The handle ergonomics are great - the longer handle fills my hand well, and the knife is well balanced and grippy. I love the purple color! The knife fits well both clipped in or simply carried down in my pocket. I'm a lefty so I really like the repositionable clip, and that the screws go into the metal liner, not just the plastic. The clip has a dip in it that is perfectly curved for resting your finger in when removing the knife from your pocket. The lockback design is also equally good for left or right handed use - so I appreciate that. A couple of very minor dislikes - in clipped, tip-up carry there's a bit more handle sticking out of the pocket than I would prefer. I often find myself dropping the knife down in my pocket so it's not visible. Also, the thumb hole had a very sharp feeling when I first got the knife. I dulled that (and the sharp top edges of the blade) in a couple minutes with some 400 grit sandpaper. If you're reading this and want to try, be careful that you don't sand the hole too much - I took off enough of that sharp edge that my thumb started to slip off the hole when opening the knife. Luckily I was able to square it back off by wrapping the sandpaper around a pen and sanding at a 90º angle inside the hole. All in all a great knife with really well thought out details. Highly recommended.

nice knife! mine's not a fake!
I had one of the old pointy delicas but can't find it so I ordered one of these in purple. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews. I am happy to report my concerns were unwarranted. It says "VG10" not V8. I can open and close it with one hand. It locks up tight. The blade is centered and oh so sharp! I am particularly puzzled by the reviewers that were unable to open theirs with one hand. Even though mine was a tad stiff at first (which it should be in my opinion) I was still able to open it one handed. I wouldn't call the hole "sharp", I would call it crisp. Just the way I like it! I have knives I don't really use hard, like my Kershaw leeks. They are too slick for real work. Too pretty as well. I use those clipped to my pocket when I walk, in case heaven forbid I have to stab something. I use my tenacious when I am gardening and doing chores. I also have a couple byrds as well. I like my users to be light in the pocket and not too pretty or expensive. This one was going in my user rotation. it's going to be hard to use this pretty knife but the practical handle and good steel begs to be used so use it I will. It's. . . Beautiful . . . : )

An EDC knife without peers.
To put it simply, I've tried them all and the Delica is hands down the BEST EDC knife around. Fits easily in the pocket, holds securely, yet is easy to clip to pocket and retieve when you need it, one handed opening, lightweight but still solid, and hair shaving sharp right out of the box. Spyderco delicas are not overly thick and gimmicky like cold steels, at least equal to benchmade for fit, finish and quality and in many cases they are sharper than benchmades, etc. I could go on comparing them to other knives, but to put it simply, Spyderco just gets it right in more areas than anyone else does. I collect pocket knives and own over a hundred from lots of different companies, but Spydies live in my pocket more than any other. On my off days I carry a variety of knives, but for work days, I don't mess around, I just carry my Delica. You cannot go wrong with this knife and you will not regret buying it. And as a bonus, they are cheaper than comparable benchmades.

Delica 4: Knife Art
I cannot add much to the other reviews you will read here. If you are familiar with Spyderco knives, there is not much anyone can say or add to aide you in choosing which knife you want other than advising blade length, which in the end must be your choice. I own three Spyderco knives: The Ladybug, Endura, and the Delica 4, and I love them all. The Delica 4 is my favorite of the three. It suits my hand. I love the feel of this knife. In my lifetime I must have owned at least fifty or so "pocket knives", but this is my favorite. As with any Spyderco knife, the blade is wickedly sharp and up to most any cutting task you desire. The Spyderhole is a unique and innovative opening mechanism that, for some reason, just seems the most satisfying way to open a knife. I guess you just have to try one of these knives to understand. As you no doubt have read, this knife comes with a clip for a pocket, and no doubt you have read many testimonials about the excellence of this super sharp fine utilitarian tool, and really, when it comes right down to it, isn't a superb cutting edge the main reason to buy a knife? The Delica 4, made is Seiki, Japan, is, simply, one of the finest specimens of knife maker art.
