The book seems to cover all the bases. Holding the instrument, bow hold, scales etc. As with all the 'Dummies' books, the layout is clear, and the content well thought-out. Also includes a CD, though I didn't get the chance to listen to this before passing the book on. For most people, and particularly for children, some lessons are a good idea, but for the habitual auto-didact this book is a good starter. Nowadays, you can supplement your learning by finding clips on YouTube, so self-tuition is much more practical than it once was. ### ⭐⭐⭐ not for proper dummies *by M***R on 16 October 2016* I don't think I am particularly thick but there were many parts I could not follow.
