Featuring tutorials, image analyses, assignments, and step-by-step image manipulation exercises, Digital Photography Masterclass explains how to see the world with a photographer's eyes. Stunning images and stylish design make this book a great tool for anyone looking to learn about the technical and creative aspects of photography and post-production. Review: A Comprehensive Book - I got this book somewhat randomly from my local library. I liked it so much that I bought it through desertcart to keep as a reference. I'd classify myself as a serious amateur photographer. I have a Canon T2i. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in improving their photography in a comprehensive way. I'm usually happy if I get a few tips that I can use out of a book. This book, however, had many great tips and ideas. It covers both the photographic aspect (taking the pictures) and the post production aspect (manipulating using software). The former it does in a fairly detailed way. The later in a more general way which provides some guidance, but mainly makes you aware of what is possible. I particularly liked the photo shoot "assignments" provided. I would have liked to see more, but the ones provided were great and in a format which would enable you to create your own. This book may not be for you if: 1. you have a fairly basic point and shoot camera or 2. you do not have access to photo editing software. However, if you don't have photo editing software, then this book may inspire you to get it. Again, this gets my highest rating, but note the caveats. Review: BEAUTIFUL presentation; Engaging text. Makes you want to "play with it." - I would say I'm an advanced beginner. Far from professional, but not wholly clueless, either. I just received this book, and I LOVE it. I own several other (drier) photography books. Most all of them leave me wondering "why are the images so bland in a photography book?" This one does not. It's a very "pretty" book, well designed with many lovely, interesting (and varied) photos. The text is thorough without being verbose. Succinct and engaging. It really makes you want to read it. I love--and can't wait to work through--the "assignments" at the end of each chapter; they will make lovely practices for photographers of all levels. The in-chapter interviews are nice and add "extra voices" to engage you in the art. Yes, there is more here for a beginner (advanced peeps won't need things--like burn and dodge, for example--defined for them) but there is a lot to this book, and you can't simply call it a beginner's book. It has nice layers of depth in each chapter. It's a wonderful conversation on photography, and --if for some reason you never 'use' it--it would be a lovely coffee table book. Love it.

Digital Photography - master class
Most of the books about digital photography start at a very basic level. Mr. Ang's book assumes that the reader is familiar with their camera and basic photography. He then goes on to illustrate his points with very specific photographs showing, for example, what happens to a cloudy sky as the weather conditions and light changes over time. The production values for the book are very high and all of the photo reproductions are excellent as is the writing. I enjoyed reading the book and found good illustations of several points I hadn't considered previously. I would recommend this book to any photographer with the stipulation Digital Photography Masterclass that it is not a 'how to' guide for beginners.

Best photo book I own!
This is simply the best photography book I own, period. It NEVER sits on a shelf. I appreciate the format, which makes the information very accessible and usable. The book is loaded cover-to-cover with practicle tips, insights and information. It is easily understandable, even to beginners. This book educates, challenges, and inspires. I love the format. I love the assignments which guide skill development, and I love the interviews with real photographers near the end of the book, which give insights from up-and-coming talents. I recommend this book to anyone catching the photography bug as the FIRST they should buy and use, no question. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill, cliche' photography books that litter the market today. Thanks Tom. Give us more!

Best Digital Photography Book...Hands-Down
I have lots of digital photography books and subscribe to the usual digital photography magazines in hopes of improving my DSLR skills. This is the best, single, all inclusive, digital photography currently on the market. Its well-laid out, the author's prose is not burdened with technical jargon and the photo examples are especially good when used to illustrate techniques. My only criticism is that some of the photos, because of their size, are a bit too small to really see the differences a technique or camera setting might make. (but then, the book does have size limits) If I were going to buy two photography books that would help improve my understanding of digital photography, inspire me to make better photos and contained examples of great photography, this would be my first choice. My second book would be Joe McNally's "The Moment It Clicks." Its a bit pricey if bought at the list price, but its well worth the money. Buy it and you will never regret the purchase.

Digital Photography Masterclass
This is an excellent book. The information is straight forward and easy to digest. Packed with tons of excellent example photographs to give you visual information as well as written. I also like that each chapter/lesson includes an assignment.I would recommend this book to anyone from the beginner to the well seasoned photographer. This is a must have book for anyone who has a passion to photograph. If I would of found this book earlier I could of saved all the money I spent on many other books.

Inspirational...
I am a keen amateur photographer of many years standing and the majority of the books that I buy are purely "technical" in the sense of with new to me software, "Classroom in a Book..." or a major upgrade on something I'm familiar with such as Photoshop, I rarely buy "concept books" a Scott Kelby walk through with his dreadful sense of humour is the closest I get to that. Perhaps I bought this book just because one of my sons had worked with him on a photographic magazine in the past so that I knew the name. However and for whatever reason, I bought the book and am truly delighted, even for a jaded palette, it is truly inspirational work. In graphical design terms it is beautifully laid out and full of great images. Each section ends with a 'project element' for you to try yourself. This is not a "follow me/these steps" type of book. It takes a 'topic' and explores the potential whilst explaining the concept and the technical details plus the "why's", the idea is that you take these 'principles' and apply them to something equivalent where you live. If you think that you know everything, this is not a book for you. If you know little and want to be led by the hand, also not for you. However, if you know a 'bit' and are prepared to go to a higher level in "your photography", well worth buying, reading and using - excellent !
