It depends on the size of the papaya. You can pick a wild small papaya fruit but not the big ones. The basket is to small. Otherwise a good tool,

Will this pick up larger size pecans?

I would say yes. It does a great job picking up our walnuts, big or small... Don’t forget you need the handle. It’s an added expense but, well worth it (^_^)
