They will be cracking up at the poo part which yes anytime anyone talks about eating poo it’s disgusting but unfortunately there are animals that do it. The book addresses this issue but in a light hearted matter and addresses that it should not be practiced. Review: Warm, laugh out loud, book. Read it! - I read a review online, and had to order a copy. I was not disappointed. Some sections are laugh out loud funny, and the story itself has a very positive message. My kids love the book, and I got a second copy for a family member to share with her kids too. It is short enough that you can read it in one sitting, but could also be spaced out over a few bedtimes.

A Sweet and funny book
Great kids book to read to children ages 3-8. They will be cracking up at the poo part which yes anytime anyone talks about eating poo it’s disgusting but unfortunately there are animals that do it. Great book for early readers to be read to.
Nice made books. A picture on every page keeps little ones engaged. My guys love the story! Gross fact in book I did not know. It made me google after reading. That doesn't-happen much in kids books. This book had my kids laughing and discussing after. What more can you ask for. Read to 6 year old boys.

Great fun for the grandkids!
I ordered this book for my two grandchildren, age 5 and 3, prior to their recent extended visit. Their mother is a children's book author herself, and it's a challenge to find a book these children don't already own or haven't borrowed from the library. I was pretty sure this first Rabbit & Bear book, Rabbit's Bad Habits, would be new to them, and I'm happy to report that it was a huge hit with both my grandson and granddaughter, evoking rapt attention and howls of laughter even after many readings. We're all looking forward to a sequel!

A cute story that's not quite perfect.
I read about this book somewhere online and became quite determined to track down a copy. I intended to pass it on to a friend with a 4-year-old grandson, but after reading it (okay, after reading it aloud to my 17-year-old son and my husband - yes, we're a weird family), I'm still not sure it's the kind of book someone might appreciate as a gift. The story is quite touching, and it is told with considerable humor. The author wrote it with input from his young daughter, and part of the hype is that the two of them were determined to make a more realistic kid's story (given that this is about a talking bear and rabbit who end up friends). The topic of poop, however, is discussed at length, and I wasn't convinced that its presence really added anything to the story. So . . . for the time being, I'm not going to pass the book on, but I'll probably add it to the kids' books I'm keeping for my own grandchildren down the road.

Great book!
Love the book-so does my 4-year-old! Pictures on every page helps her go from picture books to chapter books. It does seem to be missing the first page or two which is a bummer.

The Perfect Book
Finally a book I could read a million times to my kid and still love it. Excellent storytelling and characters. I've bought all the Rabbit and Bear books and have high expectations for all other kids authors.

My kid loved the story and so did I, this was a good start for him to start chapter books and really kept him engaged. The story is very funny and witty.. After he finished this we have already got other two books in the series and started reading the second one Pest in the Nest.

Last year the wonderfully talented illustrator Jim Field was putting out little teaser pictures from this book on Twitter, and from these alone I decided I needed to get it. I was expecting another one of Jim’s marvellous picture books, so what a surprise it was, a pleasant one, to find it was actually something a little bit different, a shorter novel for younger readers. Bear is a gentle soul, she sees the positive in everything, even when all her favourite foods are stolen from right under her nose. Poor Bear is forced awake early from her hibernation, so, making the best of it, she builds a snowman. Enter Rabbit, the opposite of Bear in every way, grumpy, argumentative and a bit of a smarty pants actually. As Rabbit dictates to poor Bear on how best to build a snowman, in bounds Wolf, with only ONE thing on his mind, Rabbit pie! Bear must use all her beary skills to help save her unlikely new friend. Julian Gough has written the perfect book for emerging readers. It’s not patronising, or too simple to read, it plays with the rules of language (such as using capital letters as emphasis) to open up much discussion with children about creative writing and when it’s okay to, well, be creative! The text is packed with character, it’s a joy to read aloud, there’s so much room to play about with voices and expression. Something which I find lacking in some younger reader books. There are little scientific explanations throughout in for extra interest and education, which fit in beautifully with the flow of the story. But best of all, is the humour! There is a quote on the front of this book by the wonderful Neil Gaiman “A laugh-out-loud story.” I can’t honestly sum it up any better than that. If this book doesn’t make you laugh out loud, then there is something seriously wrong with your funny bone. The humour is so perfectly handled that it will make children and adults alike laugh equally as hard. My favourite part, is when Rabbit eats a little bit of his own poo (hence the book title). The ensuing conversation between himself and Bear is so brilliantly dry, I will never tire of reading it! Never! Of course Julian Gough, like the pro writer he is, has excelled himself on Rabbit & Bear, yet Jim Field’s illustrations are equally important in bringing the other element of brilliant. Black and white illustrations, backed by a cool ice blue colour give a lovely cold and wintery feel to the story. But what Jim does best is expression. Big, lumbering Bear with her sweet and always slightly concerned face makes you want to hug her. Then there’s Rabbit, cheeky, short-tempered, know-it-all that he is, seems to cycle through every expression going. Even the stolen dead fish of Bear’s seems to have a character all of its own! This is seriously, seriously good. The balance of text and illustration is perfectly done so that young children (and adults too) will be kept engaged and interested throughout. I would not want to, and could not, find fault with this fantastically funny, frantic and unique book. The first of what hopes to be a plentiful and hugely successful series of books!
