Perky-Pet Red Cardinal Wild Bird Feeder, 2.5 lb Seed Capacity

I pour Safflower seed into this and the Cardinals are more than happy to helps themselves. I had previously tried three other feeders that were somewhat uncomfortable for the Cardinals to feed from. This feeder allows the Cardinals to easily feed from this feeder. I also like the clasps located on the top access opening, and this will keep squirrels from being able to invade the feeder for a free for all. While this is a simple design, it is well made, and should last a very long time. There is no assembly required, and isn't heavy at all. It is a great value in the bird feeder market.

The Perky-Pet Durable Wild Bird Feeder with a 2.5 lb seed capacity is nice; I’m quite pleased with it. The feeder is sturdy and well-built, which makes it durable enough to withstand the elements. Birds seem to love it — I’ve noticed a good variety visiting regularly, and the seed stays dry and accessible. One thing to keep in mind is that filling the feeder can be a bit tricky. If you take it down to refill the feeder tends to collapse in on itself while trying to fill it; a bit of a hassle to keep it stable during the process. It does hold a good amout of seed. So far I haven't seen any squirrels swinging on it. Overall, a good feeder with a clever design.

Best feeder I’ve ever hung! I’ve even had mourning doves hanging out on it. Attracts cardinals, house finches, chickadees, nuthatches, and the rose breasted grosbeaks love it! Very happy with purchase, have a squirrel baffle, so not sure how it would do if they had free access. Easy to fill and I can go 5-6 days before I need to fill. Seed stays dry after rain.

I wanted to like this feeder so much. I tried everything (like moving it further away from the house...and hence us humans) but the very timid cardinals in my neighborhood wanted nothing to do with it. Maybe it was the doves that "chase" the cardinals away. The doves with their comparatively bigger size and those unmistakable "throat chirping" (my words) and wing flapping/landing "noises" doesn't endear them to any other bird. I don't know why but the cardinals did not and would not use this feeder. I've decided to use this feeder in the winter simply because it is so "pretty" and will look cheerful...especially against a snowy winter background. I will use an inexpensive weather "dome" to help keep the seed (I will use this feeder for a mix of C&S pellets and seed) from getting wet. btw - C&S pellets are so much easier to provide the suet that wintering birds need. Woodlink makes a very nice metal weather protector. Aspect's clear plastic domes are great and the price is reasonable. Make sure to take the "hanging accessories" out of the box, if you order any of the weather (aka squirrel baffles ...does the same thing) protectors. Too often "helpful" hands around my house have pitched them (never "moi" - lol) with the box. That's why I keep a supply of different size hangers, hooks and chains in my backporch cabinet. Of course, peanuts and other nuts will not fit through the mesh. That is clearly evident in the photos. As a basic black oil sunflower and/or safflower feeder, it's fine. You can even use those awful blends (with so much filler....and waste) you find in your local grocery store. The little birds love this feeder. Even the darn doves figured out how to land sideways on the edge. Sorry, purists. I cannot tolerate doves around my feeders. They aren't bullies like the starlings or grackles but because of their size (and noisy arrival) they scare away the smaller birds. I have several weight sensitive feeders (intended for squirrels).These are wonderful at keeping the heavier/bigger birds from taking over. The doves don't mind ground feeding at all...and get their fill searching the ground below the feeders....just as most birds will...even cardinals. In the winter, I use "seed hoops" (Innovations and Songbird Essentials both have good products...I call them "seed savers") to make it easier for the birds to find all of the seed (doesn't get so readily buried in the snow). I feed the squirrels, too, but they have their own feeding station. The chipmunks eat whenever, wherever and whatever (lol) they wish. They will chew through most any hard plastic (even Tupperware and Rubbermaid but polycarbonate is tougher for them) to get to seed...so save yourself some trouble...spray the hot pepper spray on the outside of those containers if left outside during the winter (which you should do as birdseed is the most normal route for pantry pests to get into your home....that and pet food).I use hot pepper flakes and watered down "hot sauce" to keep mammals out of our bird seed but save some seed just for our funny backyard clowns. btw - birds don't have taste buds as we mammals do. And squirrels and chipmunks are after all mammals. That's why hot pepper flakes and sprays are great for keeping squirrels out of your feeders. You really don't need to spend mucho bucks for those fancy feeders to keep the smartest critters in the neighborhod out of your bird seed. They WILL find a way no matter what you spend. However, it is a hoot watching their antics. The best and most expensive "squirrel proof" feeders are a challenge to these acrobatic Einsteins.It may take a while...but they figure out a way to get to that seed. Just invest in some inexpensive red hot pepper flakes, sprays etc. So much cheaper. I have a special area just for the blue jays, too. They love unshelled, unsalted roasted peanuts. I finally found a way to rig a hanging platform feeder with a plastic dome low enough to keep out doves etc but allows the cardinals access. I even made use of a heavier clear plastic (saved from some packaging....it's as heavy as that used on many packaged products.....you know.... nearly impossible to remove without a chain saw) around one corner to keep access (those darn doves again) One more hint....for you gardeners. Alvin and family (our resident chipmunks) love our spring bulbs.Yummy...must make a nice change from birdseed and nuts. However, they hate hot pepper. When I plant new bulbs, I spray them with the diluted hot pepper sauce (buy the liquid intended for this right here on Amazon) and then sprinkle some hot pepper flakes (from the local supermarket) in with your new bulbs. Alvin and his family doesn't bother with my bulbs anymore. I hope some of my ramblings have helped someone. People say I talked too much. Heck, I write too much, too.Sooooooo!

The birds that enjoy sunflower seed love this feeder, which it is designed for. The squirrels also love it, so am glad it is of a metal design Perky-pet always has the best feeders historically, at good prices - thanks!

I filled the feeder and hung it up. Within 10 minutes I had a female cardinal on it, and right after that I had a white breasted nuthatch on it. I've had a white breasted nuthatch at my feeders only once, so I am excited to see it here and seemingly happy to see this new feeder. I can't wait to see what else I get! 100/100, buy it! Edit: I was hoping the doves would leave this alone, but the mourning doves do perch on this. It's still a great feeder but not dove proof.

I've been going through different bird feeders trying to find the right one, and with this one, I thought I almost did. Cardinals and other birds show up, and seem comfortably perched. It's wide enough, so a few different types of birds can use it at once. It's all metal, so no needing to worry about plastic breaking after too much sun. This thing is designed to be hanging as you fill it. If you're someone (like me) who takes his bird feeder off the hook to refill it, it becomes more difficult because it collapses on itself and if you have any remaining seed, they can spill out. I ended up installing a temp hanger in my garage so I could hang it up to refill it. I wish there were some way to lock it in place, so it doesn't collapse, and only do that when you want to store it. This thing is specifically designed for black-oil sunflower seed and smaller. Larger seeds (even larger black-oil sunflower seeds) can have trouble getting through, and end up eventually building a "dam" of seeds that prevent any other seeds from being accessed behind it as the seed level gets low. Every so often I take a metal spoon and "mix" the seeds to break up that seed dam. Sort of annoying, but that quick mix of the seeds seems to do the trick (which again is a pain to do, because it wants collapse on itself if you're trying to just quickly do it at the feeder). Finally, at least on the one I got, the metal loops that connect the hanger weren't aligned, and was about to pop open. It was a quick fix with some needle nose pliers to get it back on and aligned, but it came out of the box this way. I'm not super confident on how much weight those loops will be able to hold over time, as it swings in the wind with 2lbs of bird seed, we'll see.

Best bird feeder I have ever had so far. Holds a lot of seed, easy to fill, looks nice. The birds seem to love it. Especially the finches, blue jays and cardinals

Great feeder for small birds, especially cardinals who can't easily perch on other feeders. Purchased a second one.

Very good feeder, pleased with this. It is robust, looks good and a decent size that hangs best from a branch rather than an existing bird table. Folds down flat if you need to store. Plenty of room for perching and feeding for small birds and had no trouble attracting them from first hanging. Use a varied size seed mix and if some falls out during feeding no problem, as birds who prefer ground foraging pick them up. Five stars.

Eine ausgezeichnetes Produkt und eine Empfehlung. Neben den Vivara Futtersäulen die beste Lösung zur Vögelfütterung. Für Vogelfutter mit einer Korngröße "geschälte Sonnenblumenkerne". Für kleinere Körner/Samen eher ungeeignet. Trotzdem sehr gut zur Aufnahme größerer Futermengen, robust und Wetterfest, leicht zu befüllen und läßt sich zur Aufbewahrung schmal zusammenlegen. Hält sicher sehr viele Jahre.
