what all comes in 1 kit, how many straps ???

The kit comes with strap and wheel chocks for 1 tire.

Is this as effective strapping down the front tires? I have a side by side, I would be driving over the chocks pulling it on to the trailer

I use these on a 5 by 8 trailer and only strap down the rear tires and has work extremely well so if you're strapping down the front tires or the rear tires or maybe one front and one rear they work really well

Wondering how secure this would be if traveling when it involves a change in altitude, which can have a fairly significant change in tire pressure?

I use on 1000 pound zero turn mower tires for years and they work great, it should be fine even w altitude up or down because the tires have "give" in them. Also the amount of tension you can adjust when you tighten them up and can make it real tight or more loose initially when first leaving on your trip as well as you could always cinch up or back off if need be when you stop for fuel etc SO... I don't think it would be an issue as I have used them in heat and cold expansion/contraction for years on Zero mowers and have worked out well for me. Good Luck. Walt in Ohio

4 is better they are used for commercial mowers
