Love the art that is so detailed as to even show all the different emotions between characters. Will teach! Review: Charming illustrations and great kid-appeal! - You might be familiar with Thummler’s brilliant artwork from last year’s graphic novel adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. And if you haven’t yet gotten to that gem, bump it up on your TBR pile! This is her first solo graphic novel and I have a feeling we have a lot more in store from her! It’s the story of 13 year-old Marjorie who has been thrust into the responsibilities of running her family’s laundromat and taking care of her younger brother after her mother dies and her father has fallen into a deep depression. She is just barely hanging on and resisting the awful Mr. Saubertuck who wants to run them out of business and turn their building into a spa. But then… enter Wendell. He’s a young ghost - young meaning new and young meaning died when he was young who winds up being pulled out of the afterlife world and into Marjorie’s life. He’s looking for.. meaning. And after a rocky start with Marjorie, does end up finding it. For me, the strength and charm of this book is really about the outstanding illustrations - the gorgeous pastel palette and the nuances of the wordless panels. And based on how this book is flying through my classroom, it clearly also has that all-important kid-appeal.

Loved it!!
Such a cute little heartwarming story. I audibly gasped near the end. Wendell was so cute an innocent. I really felt for Marj, she was like a little adult, dealing with so much! This made me forget I was reading. I really enjoyed it!

BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK!!!
I absolutely adore this artwork! The color palette is so beautiful and elaborate. I love the art style and details of the scenery in the book! The plot was very engaging and interactive. The storyline was good, but it seemed like the ending came a bit to soon. I wished there would have been a bit more to read, and the love relationship in this story was a bit tightly packed. I wished there would have been more to read about the love relationship in this book. Besides that, the story line is absolutely wonderful, and the artwork is absolutely gorgeous!

Surprisingly sweet
I admit that the first pages I wasn't sure what to expect, but as usual I kept at it. It was more interesting than what I was forced to read through school. After a little bit, the story began way more intriguing then really compelling. I admit that I really enjoyed it and recommend it. After all, ghost can be sweet.

Okay
I love the art work but personally just feel this story was very slow and didn’t really have my full attention until the last third or so of the book. I give it 3 stars but really to me it’s a 2 star read with a 3.5 ending. I think I might pick up the next volume but idk. Loved the inside cover pattern! It’s one of the reasons I’m keeping the book.

3rd grader approved!
I bought this book for my 3rd grade son (he’ll be 9 in 2 months). He loves the comic book format and based on the reviews I hoped he’d like this book. At first, he wasn’t sold, since the illustrations were rather unappealing. In fact, his main critique was he didn’t like the drawings. So I read him the book description and as soon as I said “ghost” he grabbed the book and began reading. In less than 2 hours he finished this book and said it was really good and he really liked it.

Moving storyline
Odds are stacked against the protagonist, Marjorie. Her mother died; her father suffers from debilitating depression due to his wife's death. Marjorie tries to keep the family laundry open while attending school full-time. A mountain of conflict threatens to do everyone in, humans and ghosts. Good example of how when all seems lost, a glimmer of hope shines through. Good read for middle school and upper elementary students.

Got an ear from netgalley but never got around to reading it. I bought this recently to finally read. I don't know why I waited so long to read it. it was amazing! I felt so emotionally connected to the story, I was on an emotional rollercoaster and I lived every minute of it. I will be getting the second one.

Der Comic bearbeitet ernste Themen wie Mobbing und den Verlust eines Elternteils. Dies tut er aber auch die wohl sanfteste Art und ist gleichzeitig sehr, sehr emotional. Sheets ist so zart wie Spitze
