Schlage 999232 Extra Large Security U-Lock, 11-Inch by 4-Inch

I can easily slide the open end of the U around the springs on my trailer and the two prong ends of the U through two holes in the rim of my trailer tire wheel, and then I attach the bar lock. Someone can then move my trailer a very short distance before the wheel, U Lock, and spring bind up against each other. I feel that this is much more secure than just having just a lock on the latch at the ball. After using it a few times, I find I can install it from a squatting position without having to crawl under the trailer. I have another U lock which didn't work because the U was too short. This one has such a long U that it works well. I have been using it for approximately one year and it is showing no signs of weathering. Great product.

I've used this lock for about three weeks now. So far, it's worked fine. It's large enough to capture the front wheel and a frame bar while it embraces the bike stand. Chicago has hefty bike stands with stout material for locking the bike to. So, I need the extra large size of this lock. In fact, sometimes I wish it were another half-inch wider. It's certainly long enough. I don't leave my bike outside. So, I don't know how this lock might stand up to constant exposure to more challenging conditions than it encounters while my bike is stored in the basement. When I registered my keys, I discovered that this lock is made by that other lock company whose name makes you think of Superman.

This is a great extra long u-lock. It's held up great for me and I bike year round in all four seasons. There is a problem with the actual locking mechanism. As many people have pointed out, you sometimes have to use the key to align the key hole and make sure the two layers align. This can be problematic when you're in a hurry, or it's raining, or dark.

It's a Good Lock for Keeping Your Bike Safe. It' made of Heavy Metal,Steel Maybe;(i'm not an expert) like most U-locks use to be. I've noticed a lot of the newer brands out there seem to have plastic casing more than metal, so I've been looking around for good U-locks (cables ARE a waste of money for keeping your bike, yours) It's 11 inches long like the advertising says, so think about whether you would want to drag it around w/you, unless you bike w/a friend. That is the plus in this lock because it can lock 2 bikes easily to a post, bike rack, someplace w/a heavy anchor to discourage possible thieves.(IMO)I use it to lock 2 bikes on a 2nd floor balcony that faces a semi busy street, neighbor, etc. I've had a bicycle stolen off my 2nd floor once when I first moved into this neighborhood. (it wasn't locked; didn't think it was really necessary) Now I lock the bikes up out there, using the metal railing's thickest bar as the base. Hope my experience helps you choose a Good Lock. This U-Lock is large and versatile. I use it for my bike, where it often comes in contact with rain. I used to have a different U-Lock and whenever it rains, the inside of the locking mechanism gets rusty, causing me to have difficulty inserting the key. However, this lock does not have that problem. It deals with the rain really well. I even bought the same exact one for my girlfriend.

Tried to get duplicates made at local locksmith and were told they don't have the machine to do it. Called Schlage and sat on hold for 30 minutes to hear they need us to send them pictures of the lock and key to figure it out. This is a joke, the manufacturer can't tell me how to get keys for the lock they sell without pictures. Update: finally got duplicates made, and in the first cold weather it locked up. POS

Seems sturdy but sometimes you have to play around with the key a bit to open the lock.i think it rusted a little on the inside and it rarely rains here in southern Arizona and my bike is in a coveted spot usually so it shouldn't rust this easily

Someone was trying steal my son's bike at college by attempting to cut through his Schlage Extra Security U-lock with a hack saw. The hack saw only cut through the outer painted surface but never got through the thick steel of the lock. The Schlage Extra Security U-Lock prevented my son's bike from being stolen.

Chose this lock because of brand reputation, however was very disappointed. This is simply a deterrent. The cylinder is not fully covered from all sides and the back is hollow. It is covered by only the sleeve of the lock (blue section). Cutting the sleeve will expose the shackle. Quality is just poor.

Solid lock with a good quality mechanism. Two sets of keys included. I purchased it to occasionally lock two bicycles. It’s quite long U and I found it too heavy for my little string backpack. It doesn’t come with a mounting bracket so I had to get creative with how to carry it on my bike for it not to interfere with the steering.
