This is honestly the best iron I've owned in a long time. One of the things I love most is the weight. I specifically wanted a heavier iron because it helps smooth out wrinkles much better, and this one does exactly that. It glides nicely over fabrics and leaves clothes looking crisp and well-pressed with less effort.The steam function works great, it heats up quickly, and it feels durable and well-made. I've used it on everything from everyday clothes to more delicate items, and the results have been excellent every time.If you're looking for a traditional, sturdy iron with enough weight to get professional-looking results at home, this is a fantastic choice. My wife wanted a good iron. She picked this one. It is heavy, but heats really well. My wife loves it! She said she avoided ironing before, because the iron we had was small and didn’t heat up much. It was too much trouble. Now she loves ironing! It heats up quick and even works on her linen pants!

Bought this Black & Decker iron mostly for sewing but also general ironing of clothes. I had a previous iron made specifically for sewing but after less than 2 years it started leaking and the steam button broke, so I started looking for a new one. This Black & Decker one was old school, no frills, heavier weight and I’d heard some good things about it so decided to try.I filled it with distilled water (surprisingly the manual actually suggests regular tap water) and ran it over a scrap piece first, since some reviews mentioned getting black factory residue on the first few swipes. It worked well and produces plenty of steam, with clear guides for which heat settings produce steam and which don’t, and a steam on/off button. Got wrinkles out of cotton canvas no problem with a single pass, and is nice and heavy. I appreciate that it has an auto-shut off if left on its side or soleplate after 30 seconds, or if left standing after 8 minutes.Some cons:• Despite the test piece I did end up getting a black smear on a white t-shirt - I then noticed that there was residue all around the sides of the plate which I had to wipe and scrub off with a paper towel. I really wish they’d cleaned it up better during manufacturing so it would actually be ready to use out of the box. Don’t iron anything important right away and make sure it’s wiped clean!• The sole plate has a visibly bumpy texture to it and doesn’t glide as smoothly as my old iron - I would be a bit worried about ironing delicate fabrics like silk or satin with this that could potentially snag or run.• The cord placement makes it so that that when standing, it gets bent. That’s gonna be a weak point over time. Surely they could have designed that better?• There’s no spray nor manual steam burst optionI wanted this because it was no frills but I admit I miss some of the “frills” of my previous irons - for example, the fill tank on this doesn’t have a door to close so if you angle it the wrong way water spills out. My old iron also had a function that beeped to let you know it was still on after a few minutes standing - this one has a light but doesn’t beep so you have to rely on the auto shut-off if you accidentally leave it on.Ultimately I went into this thinking it’d be a great old-school iron but between the factory grease, rough-feeling soleplate, and cord placement I would say this is only $30 for a reason. It's working well and I'll continue using it for now but will probably seek out something nicer in the future.

So far, I am really loving this iron. My last iron stopped working after about six years, so I guess that is not really too bad by today’s standards. I’ve had expensive brand irons that the auto-off stopped working on both. The most recent was brand I was not familiar with, but I got it because 1) it was supposed to be extra powerful steam, 2) it did not have a non-stick coating, and 3) the ironing plate was larger (most irons are small, now). Anyway, I do iron almost every day, so I needed something reliable. Looking at the reviews for the Black and Decker Classic iron, I noticed many of the negative reviews were based on receiving an item that was used/returned or damaged in shipping, not really due to faults in the product itself, so I decided to take a chance.First impressions: Mine arrived brand-new in the box, with all packing and instructional materials in-tact. This iron is very heavy, which I think is a good thing, but it may be too much for some people. For reference, it weighs about twice as much as my old iron. The faceplate or the ironing portion of the iron is smaller, but I think the weight makes up for that. I did not have any issues with a black residue on the iron that transferred to clothes on the first use that some reviewers report. However, as I had read that, I did use an old towel, dampened with a little light soap to clean the plate and sides before the first use, and I did a test-run on an older tee-shirt.The cord does not really inspire confidence for longevity, as it seems very light-weight. Look up old photos of this model: they had sort of a metal cage to protect the cord where it entered the iron, usually on the side; and, the cord was much thicker. This cord does not pivot 360, but it does move; so, we’ll see. That is what broke on my last iron – how the cord made the connection to the iron, even though I was super careful not to pull, stretch, or store with too much tension on the pivot point. All other parts seem solid, and there is less plastic than on other models.Filling the water is easy. There is an opening, without any annoying flip door, sliding cover, or rubber stopper to open and close. There is a water-level window on the iron itself, under the handle. It did not come with a water container to fill the iron, but I have one I can use. The directions say to use regular tap water, which is nice not to have to buy and store distilled water. My water supply is not hard-water, and I don’t have a water softener; if you do, you may want to consider distilled water. This iron holds much less than my last iron, like two times less; but now that I know the capacity, I won’t overfill in the future. The directions say to lock the button in the “dry” position (down is no-steam; up is for steam) when filling so that no water gets in the steam chamber and causes “spitting.” That makes sense, and I am glad I read that in the instructions. It also says to store the iron with the button locked down – The directions do not say to empty the water tank after each use, but I do anyway.The control switch is on the top of the iron handle, as opposed to a wheel or slider on the body of the iron under the handle. I like this arrangement much better. I’ve had that in the past, and I didn’t realize how much of a better design this is. The temperature by fabric guide is listed on the body of the iron. Normally, when ironing cotton, I turn the iron to the highest setting; but, I tried cotton on #6 (#7 is the highest for linen), and I was really surprised at the heat level. I was concerned, because the wattage on this iron is less (1,100 as opposed to 1,700), but it does heat very well. I had no issues with the heat level, and I was able to iron using the recommended setting as opposed to the highest setting. The metal retains heat, which you will notice when you are finished ironing and storing the iron. It was still pretty warm an hour later, which may not be good for storage, but shows how the metal really retains the heat.This iron does have an auto-off feature, which I really don’t like because that always seems to malfunction sooner-or-later; but, I guess it is a safety requirement now. So, when the iron is plugged in and first turned on, there is a green light on the lower left-hand side of the iron handle (mine is green, but I think there are some reviewers who mentioned other colors). Once the iron has reached the desired temperature, the light turns off. It will cycle on and off as you are ironing, letting you know that the iron is working to maintain the ideal temperature. I haven’t had it go to “auto-off” yet, so, we’ll see. According to the directions, if the iron is resting in the proper sitting position, it will remain on for 8 minutes, which seems like a good amount of time. If it is on the side or in the ironing position, it turns off much faster, according to the directions.Releasing the red button activates the steam. This iron does not have steam level settings or a “burst of steam,” but the level of steam was WAY much more than my last “extra power steam” iron! Maybe it is because the iron is new: we’ll see. There is also not an auto-self-clean function, but those always seem to make just a big mess, in my opinion.I found the iron super easy to use and the weight is a definite advantage. No applying tons of pressure to get out wrinkles or add creases! It was super easy to iron the ‘vent’ creases on the top back of a dress shirt and creases in dress pants. I like the solid metal bottom, with only the few outlets for steam, as it moves nicely over fabrics. I don’t use starch or fabric sheets in the dryer, so I typically don’t have a lot of build-up. Amazon sells a cleaner (brand Faultless that comes in little tubes), that I’ve used with other irons, so, we’ll see how this goes with more regular use.Overall, I am super happy with this purchase, and this may be my favorite iron ever (even though I’ve only used it a few times). I’ll try to remember to come back and post an update: re: longevity and durability.

Just received and used it today. I earned a couple pillowcases. I love the weight. I looked that the iron does have to work for you by being heavy instead of me having to press down so hard. The steam works great, heats up well. Very easy controls. I think I’m going to be really pleased with this iron.

Beautiful retro aluminum look. Presses out wrinkles easily without extra effort. The 7-temperature dial is very user friendly. Switches seamlessly between steam and dry ironing. Features an automatic shut-off for peace of mind. Can occasionally drag on delicate synthetic fabrics. The reservoir can be slightly difficult to read. The polished aluminum design looks excellent on the ironing board. It feels incredibly sturdy and well-built, reminiscent of vintage irons that were built to last for decades. Performance and Wrinkle RemovalBecause this iron has some weight to it, you do not have to press down hard to get deep creases out of cotton or linen. The fabric selector dial offers 7 distinct temperature settings, making it easy to shift from denim down to delicate silks.Steam vs. Dry IroningThe steam output is consistent and powerful enough for everyday garments. Shifting to completely dry ironing is quick, which is a massive plus for crafting, sewing, or pressing specific fabrics that water might ruin. Soleplate GlideThe aluminum soleplate heats up rapidly and evenly. While it glides beautifully over natural fibers like cotton, wool, and linen, you do need to be careful with synthetic materials to avoid any pulling or sticking. This is my 3rd purchase for this iron over the years and I love it.

I want you to know I saved all the ironing this week for the arrival of this iron. This is one of the most inexpensive irons offered here at Amazon. It's also better than the others. After one overpriced T-Fal and one even more overpriced Rowenta, I am convinced that 1) some things are better left unchanged and 2) One should never fix that which is not broken. Therefore, I have returned to my ironing roots. This is like the iron I grew up using. This is the type of iron that never let me down. Not fussy. Not awkward. The right size. Not built like it belongs on a spaceship. And most of all........Not made entirely of cheap plastic.I can honestly say I am sorry I wasted my money on the expensive irons because none of them handled, ironed or made me feel as comfortable as Ye Old Black and Decker The-Way-It-Was-And-The-Way-It-Should-Stay Steam Iron.It does what an iron is supposed to do and, if placed on its heel (the way I learned how to iron), it doesn't shut off on you 15 times while you are trying to iron a batch of clothing and want to stop and do something else for a minute. If given the choice, I would really revert back to the old days when irons didn't have an automatic shutoff at all. I mean, if you are that ditzy that you can't remember to turn the iron off, well I honestly don't know what to tell you. I'm sure our lawmakers, instead of doing something useful, made some kind of law about irons automatically shutting off so that the person using it can be tortured. This iron does have an auto shutoff, and it's very fast and annoying if you put the soleplate directly on the ironing board, which is an invitation to scortching something. However, if rested on its heel, you have 8 minutes. This is enough time to adjust things or answer the phone without returning to an iron that's not hot enough.I agree with other comments that this is also a heavy iron. Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't irons SUPPOSED to be heavy enough to press out wrinkles? A heavy iron means you don't have to push and do the work when pressing seams or things like jeans. And if you are a cat owner, you understand when I say that I know for a fact that, sooner or later, your 20-pound cat Rodney is going to knock that iron right off the board. Okay, I mean MY 20-pound cat Rodney. At least with this iron and its steel base, you won't be sweeping up a heap of plastic pieces if it hits the floor -- and chances are good it will still do the job, just like the old days. I don't know this for certain. Yet. But heck, it's a lot less painful paying $19 bucks for another iron than it is buying another useless plastic oversized Rowenta.Listen, I would prefer not to iron at all, but barring that possibility, at least now I own an iron that does what it is supposed to do without spitting, sputtering and switching itself off every time I walk to the closet to get another hanger.Get this iron, learn to rest it on its heel, and put yourself out of your ironing misery. And save yourself some bucks besides.

Nice solid heavy iron, however I find the handle does get semi hot to the touch.

I’m extremely happy with the Black+Decker Classic Iron. After going through three different irons in the past two years, I was honestly pretty frustrated. none of them seemed to get hot enough to do the job properly.This one is exactly what I was looking for. It’s a no-nonsense, classic iron that just works. It gets properly hot, which makes a huge difference, creases come out quickly and the finish is crisp and clean.Another thing I really appreciate is the weight. It’s heavier than most irons I’ve used, so I don’t need to apply extra pressure while ironing. When I add water, the extra weight actually makes it even more effective.The steam off button is also a great feature and gives good control depending on what I’m ironing.Overall, this iron does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and does it really well. Highly recommend it if you want something reliable and effective.

The product was used by me in the USA and is extremely good. However, it works on 110V and not India voltage compatible. For that reason, I had to return the product and the seller was gracious enough to issue refund.

Pros: Es una plancha muy buena, la llevo probando ya por mucho tiempo y no hemos tenido ningún problema, calienta rápido, no quema la ropa, y tiene un buen peso lo que hace mas fácil planchar.Contras: el único detalle que le puedo notar es que tiene un deposito de agua muy pequeño lo que te obliga a tener un bote de agua cerca si planeas planchar tandas completas de ropa.
