BW 7 inch High Resolution 800 * 480 TFT Color LCD Car Rear View Camera Monitor Support Rotating The Screen and 2 AV Inputs

I purchased this to connect with the Sony XAV-64BT Head Unit in my wife's 2004 Subaru Forester. The intended use is for our 1 year old for long drives as we can throw a dvd into the head unit and play it on the purchased monitor. The hookup was easy and running the wires through the vehicle and into the head unit was fairly easy. I connected the power through a switch I placed in the ash tray compartment (since we don't smoke)that can be closed off. I wired the power from the lead that goes to the cigarette lighter - then to the on/off switch, then to the monitor. This works beautifully as you don't have to use the remote (which works fair at best from the front seat to the back) to turn the unit off or on so there is not a blue screen when not in use - and to do so from the convenience of the drivers seat. One mistake I made in my initial setup was not connecting the ground hookup. During my trial it did not seem to make a difference in quality and I wasn't worried about something in the $30 range getting damaged from not connecting the ground wire. THIS WAS A MISTAKE... The picture was choppy any time the car was turned on. I started going through all of the wires to find the problem and grounded the unit by fastening the ground wire to the closest screw into the body of the vehicle, which just happened to be directly behind the drivers door under the plastic panel. Once I secured the ground wire the picture was very clear, that's what I got for trying to save time. As our little one is only 1 year old and backward facing I secured the outside box that the unit fits in to the rear headrest using plastic ties. Although it's not the most professional looking it doesn't look bad, it's very secure, and when we are ready to face the little guy in a forward facing car seat we I can make it more permanent if I wish too. The only negative I have on the unit is the lack of audio. When using the buttons on the unit it seems that you can turn up or down the audio, but in the directions (or lack thereof) and the wiring harness there doesn't seem to be any type of audio input, unless I missed something.

I modified this in order to conceal it in my car. The unit has a mounting case it snaps in to, which I tossed away. The base looks durable, but I don't want sticky on my dash. I actually took apart the screen itself, cut a hole in top of the case, and relocated the cable out of the top instead of the bottom. Getting the case apart was very difficult if you're looking to modify this thing. Be careful not to crack anything! The back of the monitor casing has a slotted steel plate that a square nut and bolt (with a triangular black plastic levers) usedto screw it onto the dash mount. I used the bolt and nut to screw it into my sun visor, with the decent looking bolt showing through the front of the visor when it's up. I had to remove the mirror on the visor to allow more room. doing this adds around 1/2-3/4 of an inch near the bottom edge of the visor when it's up. It is close enough that the "snap" of the visor kicks in and holds the weight with no problem. Use 3M stickies (or paperclips like I did) to rig the camera to not spin on the bolt. I cut and fashioned paperclips around the wire frame of the visor to hook into the heat vent holes on the back of this monitor to make it not spin. Works amazingly. I'm not even sure why there's vent holes, but if it worries you, drill or dremel more vent hols on the top. I then ran the wire (it's 1.5 - 2 feet long" up through the visor mount under the roof liner and partially down pillar A or whatnot. I then met it with the power and video cord (all one piece) from under the dash. It is now a wonderful backup camera monitor which has an additional video access for something like an adapted cellphone or dvd player (when you are parked of course!) I am thinking of adapting my cellphone to it to watch Netflix when I have to occasionally wait in my car. It has 1 male and 1 female RCA video input. The unit has a power button on the front, so wiring it to a switch or specific power line is unnecessary. Any 12v line should do. I ran this off a 12v battery in the house for testing and was able to play a Wii on it and the picture was excellent. It only has video, no sound or anything else so keep that in mind. A standard dash mount would look great, but be weary the size of this impeding your sight.

The monitor works as described. The only improvements needed are this: 1. Surely they can hire an English speaker to write the instruction sheet. In 5 minutes someone could do this via email. 2. Like all accessory electronics, they skimp on the gauge of the wires. It isn't that the wires are insufficient to handle the amperage, they are. The problem is that they are so small it is difficult to connect them to anything using standard connectors. It is possible to break the wires just by removing the insulation. If the wires are subjected to any flexing at all they will break and this has probably caused a lot of problems for people. At least use 18 gauge wire. That would really give confidence in the installation results. Other than that, the monitor works nicely for the price. Remember, this isn't some $200 monitor. It is bright enough for most use and the images are clear without distortion. Here is a trick for installation if you use the frame. Put a very thing piece of fabric under the monitor when you insert it into the frame. Allow the ends of the fabric to stick out enough so your can grab it. Then when you press the release catches, you simply pull on the fabric and it pops the monitor out easily. If you want, tape the fabric to the back of the monitor so that it's always there.

I bought this monitor for a vehicle backup system I put together. The monitor I purchased with the previous system cost me $99 and was only 5". It was not from Amazon and it was of cheap quality too. This monitor is 7" of pure delight. The price is worth the purchase. I sent back the other monitor for credit and I shoud have sent the camera back also but I kept it. The monitor has plenty of wire if you need it and you can see anything very clear. Amazon once again gave me super quick delivery with their service. Update: Used it today constantly and it worked flawlessly. This is such a nice monitor to own. It's nice and big to show you the camera picture from the camera mounted on my license plate. With the cig power plug I bought from Amazon, it works superb. I feel like driving backwards everywhere I go just because it works so well. Hooking up to my trailer is no chore anymore compared to getting in and out of vehicle to check how close I was to the hitch ball coupler. Try it, you'll like it.

This monitor was bought to be put in the headrest of a 2006 gmc sierra crew cab sle. The fit was tight but it works like a champ. I think i should have bought on a little smaller maybe 5 inches instead of 7 but this one worked fine. The only issue i see is one that i think most tft monitors will have and that is that the viewing angle is not that great. Because its on the back of the seat if the seat is reclined back too far the viewing angle for an adult in the back would be around 5-10 degress looking down on the monitor. that angle causes some of the color to wash out while viewing. Like i said I don't know if there is anyway around that with tft other than adjusting the headrest height or the angle of the seat. But i would recommend this for someone wanting to install headrest monitors at a low price. I'm actually buying another one to put in the passenger seat and decided to write this review during my purchase. also keep in mind that once you install the monitor, even though it is removable its not that easy to remove. The monitor does have release buttons to remove from the headrest shroud but there is a cable that you will have to run through your seat for power and video that makes it not easily removable. it can be done but depending on your install if its like mine i ran the wire inside the seat cover so i would have to unsnap the seat covering to reconnect once disconnected and that isn't something you want to do on regular basis. the monitor does have a power button so you can turn it off separately with the car on. For anyone considering doing this themselves its not that hard. If you've installed car stereos you can do this. Just measure everything twice to make sure you don't overcut. here is a series of videos that can help which i recommend you look at before attempting the install. they are clear and concise and even give a few good tips to help make the job go easier. [...] I have the receiver "sumas media sm310t" purchased at walmart for $70 and this backup camera PLCM22IR-Flush-Mount-Camera-Vision purchased on Amazon for around $15. Altogether I've spent around $150 which replaced the factory radio with one that plays usb, dvd and sd cards with a 3" video display. It also plays a few video formats including xvid and divx. MP3, video and photos can be stored on the sd card and accessed via the unit by switching via the menu. I added two 7" headrest monitors that are connected to the receiver so my kids watch videos on trips. With the 16b sd card i use in the receiver there is plenty of space for both video and music. I also installed a backup camera that is flush mount and looks like a factory install. Can't beat all that for $150 bucks. recap sm310t receiver=$70 2 headrest monitors $70 backup camera = $15

It's not that often that you get more than you paid for. My expectations when I ordered this modestly priced monitor were pretty low so I was extremely pleased to find that other than the documentation, this is actually a very high quality product. I installed a rear view camera in my class C motorhome and mounted this monitor on the engine pedestal. The quality of construction and the picture are both excellent and it worked perfectly the first time I hooked it up. I highly recommend this monitor!. The instructions are weak but it's very easy to figure out how to hook everything up. You actually have two different mounting options - it has a mounting case to install in a headrest, and a mounting pedestal to use as a stand-alone unit. It also has the ability to hook up two separate cameras so I might add a side-mount camera in the future. I don't have a need for the little remote when I'm just using this for a backup camera, but the remote could be a nice little "plus" if you were using this monitor for other purposes. Let me say it again, this is one of those cases where you definitely get more than you paid for.

I received my monitor quickly and undamaged, but when I hooked it up it only worked for a short while ( approx 1.5 min ) and went off. If left powered up it would continue to be on for 1/2 min. then off for 1,2 min.. The power connection has a small plastic box in the line. This contains a circuit board which I assume is a voltage regulator since while I monitored the volts in at 12.5 V, the volts out went from approx 9.5V dropping slowly to below 7 V until the monitor goes black. If left alone it would eventualy come back on and repeat that cycle again. Also a coil on this circuit board was getting hot. Too hot to be in a small plastic box. I connected a separate 8.5 VDC source, that I had available, in place of the regulator voltage output to the monitor. Disappointingly it still goes on and off. Therefore I am assuming that the monitor circuit itself is the fault. I know what "assume" means but, until I find out different, I believe that what I have on my hands is a piece of junk. A bargan is something that you buy for a reasonable price and it works satisfactorly, but if it does not perform as specified, reguardless how inexpensive, it is a rip. I will think twice in the future.

This worked great as an always-on rear-view camera monitor for nearly ten years before it became too dark to see well. I suspect that happened because of how hot it is where I live, and I was not protecting it with a windshield shade when parked. I was very glad to see that it was still available after such a long time, so I replaced it with the same item. It gives a very clear picture, although it gets grainy when it's dark out, but I suspect that is because the camera can't gather enough light, not because of any shortcoming of the monitor. Looking forward to another 9+ years--maybe more, now that I'm protecting it with a windshield shade when parked.

Very good product

Like some othere reviewers have mentioned I also use this monitor for FPV finding that video goggles don't agree with me. What can I say I wasn't expecting much at this price yet I was blown away by the quality and extras the screen came with. It blows my mind that you can purchase something of this quality for this price, simply superb value for the money. OK it's not the highest resolution known to man but for the task I need it for, watching films in the car or as a security monitor this ticks all the boxes. I might buy a few more incase the stock drys up!
