Brief Calculus: An Applied Approach

I am not a user of this textbook by choice; it's required for my college calculus class. My professor thinks it's wonderful. He's got a PhD in math. If, however, like myself, you are taking calculus because you don't already magically know the material, you may find this book as useless as I do in terms of being able to learn anything from it. Uh, hello? If I could just read this arcane crap and figure it out, I'd have taken the CLEP and put this stuff behind me. There is minimal explanation of the formulas given. I picked up "Calculus for Dummies" as an adjunct for my own purposes and that is marginally better. I can't imagine anyone buying or renting this tome for any reason other than it's required to do so.I will say this to its credit: as it is rather heavy, it would make an admirable doorstop or window prop. Also, you could use it to defend yourself from an attacker, and probably give said attacker a wallop if you took a good swing with it.

This is a great text book. Lots of example problems and more useful is that everything is linked to real world problem solving. This is strictly a classroom text book and not designed for complete self-study. Overall, this is a really good text.
