Buy Mah-Jong (Know the Game) Illustrated by Gwyn Headley, Yvonne See (ISBN: 9781472970091) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: A high quality product and read. - This book seems expensive for 64 pages. But trust me, it is of high quality. Exquisite glossy pages, adorned with wonderful pictures to assist in the learning of the game. Well written and easy to follow. If you are new to Mahjong, then this book is brilliant. It is British Rules and Scoring. Review: Wish I had bought this BEFORE I bought the game - I spent £80 on a game and could not make head or tail how to play. This book is so informative, but on reflection I can't see any of my friends wanting to learn such a complicated set of rules. Each game seems to have people playing from a different chair, depending if they have drawn whichever wind tile. I think it is the sort of game you need someone who already knows what they are doing to teach you. It all seems a bit of a faff!!

A good basic introduction
This is a good basic introduction to the British form of the game. It is published by the British Mahjong Association. The book is attractively illustrated, in colour; it is printed on stiff paper, so it should be hard wearing. (no problems so far!) I recommend supplementing this with the excellent Jelte Reps book--Great Mahjong Book: History, Lore, and Play.

Learn these rules first.
This rulebook is based on the original classical Chinese rules, before they became distorted by various people who introduced the game to western audiences. There are many variations of rules, and I have read many books on various rule sets, but this is the one I keep returning to. It's a fairly easy teach and you can introduce special hands as you learn. I bought the original version of this book probably 20 years ago and recently bought 4 copies of this new version for my gaming group. Without doubt the best place to start your journey into Mah Jongg and probably the one you will consider the best.

Everything you want to know
This is an excellent little book : very well organised and illustrated and with all the information you need to know. Simple, straightforward language : ideal for new players as well as a reliable reference for experienced ones. The rules set out are the ones applicable to the UK. (Every country where Mahjong is played has its own version of the rules). Highly recommended - the size makes it easy to carry round with you.

Mah Jong Rules
Its a guide to how to play Maj Jong and beats the explanation you so often find accompany a Mah Jong set which is in poor English and difficult to follow. Very grateful to have found this. It arrived on time and was well packaged.

This is a pretty clear exposition of the rules of 'classical' Chinese Mahjong, or rather the British Mahjong Association version of the popular Chinese game. (It only briefly refers to the American, Japanese and other national versions, including other Chinese variants.) Mahjong is a complicated game, and according to my teacher, most rule books, including the ones that come with Mahjong sets, are hopelessly opaque. This will get you going pretty quickly, but really use it only as a reference and start taking classes or jump in with seasoned players who are willing to tolerate beginners. You may be glad you did.

If you want to learn how to play mah-jong the way the British do, this is a good book for that. The illustrations are nice, clear, and colorful. Every page is full color even. It reads well, and explains the rules quite clearly.
