The climactic third novel in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost's Night Prince series finds Vlad and his newly turned bride, Leila, at odds with each other—and vulnerable to the one vampire powerful enough to end the Dark Prince's reign . . . Play with fire, pay the price Leila's years on the carnie circuit were certainly an education. What she didn't learn: how to be a vampire, or how to be married to the most famous vampire of them all. Adjusting to both has Leila teetering on a knife edge between passion and peril, and now the real danger is about to begin . . . Vlad must battle with a centuries-old enemy whose reach stretches across continents and whose strength equals his own. It isn't like Vlad to feel fear, but he does . . . for Leila, because his enemy knows she is Vlad's greatest weakness. As friend and foe alike align against him—and his overprotectiveness drives Leila away—Vlad's love for his new bride could be the very thing that dooms them both . . . Review: 5 'I haven't been this excited about a series in ages' stars!!! - Bound by Flames starts at about 60 miles per hour and then accelerated at an unbelievable pace, until the incredibly incendiary end, when yes, one major, major enemy of Vlad’s gets destroyed…leaving another, more powerful one, with a deadly link to Leila, alive. Because of said link, Vlad can’t kill him out of choice…but he also can’t kill him due to his unimaginable necromancer powers. Leila knew marrying one of the most powerful and famous vampires of all would be challenging. She loves Vlad more than anything, but his attempts to keep her safe is suffocating her and causing a rift between them. With Vlad’s greatest enemy out to destroy him, it’s more important than ever they work as a team or risk losing each other forever. I’m a big fan of Leila and believe she only gets better. She has a lot to juggle with her recently becoming a vampire and wife, aiding in the search for Szilagyi, fine-tuning her powers, and dealing with her family’s distress of having to uproot their lives in go into hiding. She’s not perfect, there are bumps and missteps along the way yet with minimal complaining, she puts her heart, mind, and determination into everything she does and it’s all very impressive. Leila also shines in her relationship. Vlad is, well, Vlad. His barbaric yet effective rule and mastery of fire strikes fear into even the most intimidating vampires. His commanding presence radiates off the pages but doesn’t overshadow Leila and I love it. She is everything to him and in this book it leads to him making decisions that causes more harm than good and puts a strain on their relationship. Rather than giving into his demands or leaving out of frustration, Leila meets Vlad head on and uses all her tricks to get it into his stubborn head she won’t be hidden away or handicapped for her own safety. Knowing when to push and when to concede takes a certain kind of finesse that I’m really enjoying watching her come to master. No matter the arguments, Leila and Vlad’s love is undeniable and burns deliciously hot. When they come together it’s more than just hot sex (which it totally is). Each intimate scene reaffirms their love no matter how angry they are at other and makes their soul deep connection stronger. The romance between Vlad and Leila is my absolute favorite from any of Jeaniene Frost’s couple and why is excellently displayed in this book. Vlad’s hunt for his oldest enemy continues and what occurs during the search adds a darker element to the book when compared to previous installments. Szilagyi’s depravity is on display and reaches out to hurt Leila and Vlad in a vile way. I have a new hate for the male. There are scenes that toe the line of being uncomfortable to read yet Frost’s way with words and strength of her characters kept the book in my hands on my eyes on the page. The blood-thirsty side of me would have liked a more epic showdown between Szilagyi and Vlad but what I got was still oh so satisfying. I know that this series has been expanded by one more book and, with how events go towards the end, Jeaniene Frost has set up some very interesting plot twists that I can’t wait to see how they play out. Review: An exciting, action packed, angsty addition to this series - Leila and Vlad are on the hunt for the villain with the unpronounceable name again. While romancing. The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between Leila and Vlad, solid as a rock: I was trying to recall the last time I’d read a series that features one couple where their obstacles are external, instead of the battle against their “feelings.” I really love that Leila and Vlad, even though they clashed a little bit in the beginning of the book, didn’t wallow in anger and resentment with each other over some perceived slight or jealousy. They both tried to understand the other’s POV. Which was great, because... There’s some angst up in here: *mild spoiler alert* Leila is captured by the big bad, Miggy Azalea (that’s not his name but I could never say it or remember the spelling, so go with it) and there’s suffering to be done. It broke my heart, but I loved Leila’s resilience, and Vlad’s determination to save his woman. It’s angst, but it’s good angst that propels their relationship to a new level. Love the structure of the series: Points to Ms. Frost for not dragging things out and actually planning the next book to be the conclusion to this series. I had loved the earlier Cat & Bones books, but as the series went on (there were seven full novels and several novellas), it started wear thin plotwise and I wasn’t as big a fan of the final book. While Vlad is a larger than life character, I think four books is just enough to really explore his love story and to bid farewell to these characters. I’d really rather be left wanting more. Setup for the finale is great: Each book has gotten better, and the ways things end here, I'm eager to see how it all works out.Loved the introduction of a new foe, along with seeing Maximus again - what can I say I like the poor guy. Good series, but not really a standalone: Could you read this without reading the earlier ones? Probably, but there’s alot of little moments that will pass you by. Deja vu: My only real quibble would be the familiarity of Leila being captured, and running headlong into danger. There’s a purpose to it, but I would have liked to see her not be captured again. The Bottom Line I’ve really enjoyed Vlad and Leila’s romance, and I’m eager to see the conclusion...next year. Sigh.

Intense 4.5 stars
If you haven't read a Jeaniene Frost novel, do yourself a favor and start with HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE (the first in the Night Huntress series). The progression from that series to the three (so far) Night Prince novels is nothing short of delicious. Although I have read all these novels more than once, I made sure to reread Once Burned and Twice Tempted again before BOUND BY FLAMES. I remember liking Leila as a character in the earlier novels until she got to Vlad's home in Romania and then found that she didn't seem to appreciate Vlad. She seemed rather gauche in comparison to his old-world charm (aside from the dungeons and torture). Ms. Frost has done a great job of developing Leila's character to the point where she has become a worthy companion for Vlad. My biggest fear before reading this book would be that the plot would center on Leila leaving Vlad for being too controlling. I was absolutely not interested in a plot line that focused on why they couldn't be together. Jeaniene Frost didn't disappoint. While there is a lot of tension between Leila and Vlad, you can see how they are growing as a couple. Vlad is compelled to keep Leila safe, but acknowledges that doesn't work from her point of view. Leila matures enough to deal with the ultimate alpha male. Ms. Frost pulls a fast one on Vlad by having Leila agree to what he asks of her and having Leila still end up in trouble. This is a love story, but a dark one. Readers are brought into Vlad's real world when he is fighting his arch enemy. Leila's experiences are gruesome, but not done in such a graphic way as to sensationalize what is happening. We are dealing with two enemies who predate the middle ages, after all. In the midst of all the evil, though, we get a better sense of Vlad as a person and how Leila has become his world. "Vlad loved the same way that he lived -- untamable, dangerous, and full throttle,..." Regarding Leila's safety: "If I have to sacrifice every person in my line to ensure it, I will." After a 500 year romantic hiatus, Vlad has given himself over to love. We also see more of Vlad's sense of humor in this book. At one point he admits to watching a particular documentary because, "It was late, you were asleep, and there was NOTHING else on." Ha! "... bite, bleed, replenish," he said. "Easier than baking a cake." Watch out for spoilers when you are looking through reviews. Ms. Frost has some very interesting plot twists in store that are better left as a surprise. It was great to see Cat in a new light and have Vlad tangle with Marie. Even Mencheres gets stumped at one point. Vlad has some great interactions with Gretchen. The scene where he knows her weight is funny and Vlad does a great job of getting in Leila's father to face how much his abandonment has impacted her. Leila: You'll get a lot of 'no' RSVP's for your next party. Vlad: This is not the first party I've thrown where less guests left than arrived. "This hovel and her RV are palaces compared to some of the places I've lived, so if we're finished with the poverty pi$$ing contest, I have business to discuss." "Love cuts deeper than the sharpest blade, cripples more than shattered bones, and leaves scars that never fade." It is hard not to have empathy for this brutal, brutalized man. "It's why I've protected my people as a whole, yet refused to value one person more than the other, and also why I've had few lovers and even fewer friends." "You are my destruction, because if I were to lose you, it would finish me." "If someone here gives you so much as an uneasy vibe, have them thrown into the dungeon. I'll sort it out once I return." I want to use that line! "You yanked wraiths out of the bones of slain men and you summoned the ferryman of the underworld to do your bidding, yet THIS is beyond you?" "I want a hardened man, not a mass-murdering, pathologically vengeful one," Vlad said. "There's only room for one of those in my line right now, and that's me." Loved this. Okay, so why the 0.5 demerit -- easy. Not enough sex!

A Vampire's Vampire!
I have spent untold hours studying about the vampire legends, and how all too often, fallacies have thrown any connection with the original legend out the window. Today's nauseating glittery daywalkers that have retractable fangs (vampirism is not supposed to be convenient!) and some don't even drink blood! For the most part, they are the pretenders, the vapid wannabees. Voivode Vlad Dracul however, is a warrior, a vampire, and a man of many passions. While he too, has retractable fangs, he makes up for that oddity in sheer presence! He's strong willed, dangerous, and very determined, and as a vampire, he considers ruthlessness a necessary tool to maintain the level of security he has vowed to provided for his own people, vampire and human alike. He makes no apologies, and asks no pardon, and is unrepentant about the cruelty he uses as a tool to achieve his goals. The bad side of that coin however, is that many of his enemies are as ruthless as he is, and will attempt time and again to destroy everything that is or ever was special to him, including his new love, Leila. Leila, a circus performer who is estranged from her family, is taken in by a dwarf (little person!) vampire who treats her as his daughter. Things take a turn for the worst when Leila's secret power manifests, and attracts those who would eliminate her power or kill her to prevent her from being used as a weapon against them. Vlad is a ferocious protector, and once he realizes Leila is his heart's desire, he pulls out all of the stops and vows to protect her or use every power at his command to exact vengeance. Vlad is a character that steps head and shoulders above the rest for uniqueness, and ferocity. All things considered, he is one of the better modern analogues to the classic legends. He doesn't turn into mist, nor does he transform into a bat, but he is a character that wears his strength and commanding attitude in the same way that Bram Stoker's Dracula wore his night-black cape. Vampires of legend were creatures who were punished for crimes in life with a curse in death. Doomed to walk the earth trying to quench an unquenchable thirst, Vlad's bleak, warlike existence is illuminated by Leila's presence in his life, and despite the searing memory of the loss of his first wife, he finds that somewhere within him, he still has a spark of hope that could be fanned into love once more. And although Leila's annoying fussiness about anyone getting into her head is a rhythm-breaker, the overall tenor of the characters is exciting and a pleasure to read. This storyline involves graphic violence, death, and tortures. If you are uncomfortable with any of those, I recommend moving on to another book series, but be warned; if you do, you will miss out on a fast-paced gritty adventure that is cunningly written and greatly enjoyed. I loved this series a LOT, and they are the books that introduced me to Jeanine Frost's style of writing. I am on the last book in that Cat/Bones series, and I have to say, Vlad is still my favorite! Perhaps I will start back at the first book and reread Once Burned and the others all over again so that when the last book finally arrives later this year, I will be ready.

Jeaniene's Vlad Dracul is my absolute FAVORITE paranormal character
Well, I have been waiting for this installment for a longgggg time, practically from the second I finished the previous one. Vlad Dracul, especially Jeaniene's Vlad Dracul is my absolute FAVORITE paranormal character, naturally most loved vampire, not to mention he isn't just ANY vampire he is THE vampire - Vlad Tepesh, the impaler! YUM on so many levels I can't even, no, there are NO WORDS! So it's obvious that I LOVED this book. What was so great about it, wasn't specifically the plot - it was how much character development both Vlad and Leila went through. Living with Vlad, isn't easy, Leila needs to adjust, he is hundreds of years old conqueror, expecting him to become "modern" doesn't make any sense, yet will Leila by his side he seems to change, learn to respect her and her judgement as well as actually TRUST in her. There is one scene he actually takes her with him and sees her as someone who more than have the ability to defend herself, she is capable as being HIS backup. I kept being surprised with how much Vlad is willing to "adjust" ("change" is a "big word" I think it's mostly about him seeing her differently and reacting to the way he sees her NOW and not becoming someone else). Leila is a real bad-ass, I love that about her, she is truly the EXACT woman a man like Vlad needs. She also has the will power and mental strength of a warrior. She went through HELL in this book yet she came out of it will her head held strong (even if on the inside she still hurts). There is a side appearance of Mencheres and Cat. I would have loved having MORE of Mencheres though. Also there is a visit to Marie Laveau which was quite entertaining and also even though Vlad bid goodbye to his long (mostly) loyal friend Maximus - he has quite an appearance and I have a feeling we will see him again in the next installment. In this installment, as was in the previous two, Vlad and Leila try and kill their tormentor - Szilagyi Mihaly - who is actually the vampire who brought them together when he kidnapped Leila and intended on using her against his long hated rival - Vlad Dracul.. Yet THAT deed won't get him invited to their wedding.. only to HIS impending doom.. Yet since the story doesn't end with this one (though first planned to be a trilogy this series will be getting one last installment after this one) not all ends well. There is one loose end to tie.. a very surprising one.. I really enjoyed this one. Though I didn't like some things that felt a bit repetitive (Leila is getting kidnapped AGAIN, fourth time in 3 books is a bit excessive don't you think?), the way Cat helped felt a bit "off", somehow I didn't accept the explanation to the power she used to help Vlad. Yet all in all, the few things that DID annoy me were so mild.. it was such a JOY to return to Vlad and Leila for the third time which makes me really happy to know we are getting another book of these two where their relationship is established and they can actually work as a team and not only Vlad being the one saving Leila or generally being worried about her and how to protect her. Don't miss out on the Epilogue, it was GREAT, Laugh Out Loud funny! and also a beautiful and somewhat tender conclusion to the book. CAN'T WAIT for the fourth and last installment - sadly only next year.. Tags: Paranormal Romance More Reviews - http://ultrameital.blogspot.co.il

Darker but very compelling third book...so glad this isn't the end
4.5 Stars! Bound by Flames is the third book in Jeaniene Frost's Night Prince series. Originally meant to be a trilogy but now scheduled for at least one more book. This would be a hard book to read as a stand alone and I would highly recommend starting at book 1 in this series. You'll understand and get so much more from Vlad and Leila's relationship if you read the series from the beginning and it's definitely worth reading. In book three, Vlad and Leila are now married (at least in human terms, not by vampire law) and Lelia is now a vampire as well. They are hunting Vlad's archenemy Szilagyi. Leila knew that marrying one of the most powerful vampires was going to be tough but she is determined to hold her own and work with Vlad as a partner. Vlad's desire to protect his wife is smothering her and ultimately leads to an even more dangerous situation. This book deals with two very important aspects, one Vlad and Leila navigating their relationship and learning to compromise and work together. The other of course is the life and death search and battle for Szilagyi. I really enjoy both Leila and Vlad's characters. Vlad is such a bigger than life character that it takes a really strong female lead to be able to stand by his side. Leila is more than capable of doing that and not only does she hold her own she is a great character within her own right. Leila has a lot to deal with in this book, getting used to being a vampire, being married to Vlad, continuing to learn to use her power, dealing with her father and sister and then there is what she is put through when things go wrong. (I won't say too much because I don't want to give it away) but much is require from Leila and watching her navigate all that happens to her was heart wrenching and yet impressive. This book is darker than the previous books in this series and has quite a lot of violence. Vlad is well what you can you say Vlad. He is aggressive and barbaric and it's easy to see why almost everyone is afraid of him. It would be so easy for him to overshadow Leila but he doesn't. This book is told from Leila's POV but Vlad opens up to her about things from his past and we get glimpses of all that he is feeling in this book. His love for Leila is overpowering and amazing. Vlad actually grows in this book and I like him even more which I wasn't sure was possible. No matter what happens to either character or between the two of them the connection between the two of them never falters and both work hard to make the relationship work and show the other how much they love each other. As I mentioned earlier, Bound by Flames isn't the conclusion of Vlad and Leila's battle and a new enemy appears in this book. Some might find that frustrating, I'm just glad it means I'll get to read more about Vlad and Leila as I'm not ready to let them go yet. 2016 seems much to long to wait for the next book. This is a series I will pull out and read more than once, which is the highest compliment I can give since I don't re-read books all that often.

Jeaniene Frost's Night Prince series is one of the best. As the third book in the series
For a spin-off series, Jeaniene Frost's Night Prince series is one of the best. As the third book in the series, Bound by Flames if both an enjoyable and steamy read. Who wouldn't want to read about the original Dracul that makes Dracula? Frost reinvents him in such a delicious way. Bound by Flames is a great third book. There's something to be said for being a third book, and not the end of a series. I always feel that a third (or even a second) book has a lot to live up to. It acts as a bridge between two important things. Often, I just muddle along hoping that it doesn't disappoint. Bound by Flames did not disappoint at all. Frost brought the action, the love, and the romance. She just knows how to write a story and keep her readers entertained from start to finish. The story continued almost immediately from the last book, and the momentum continued, never straying for a moment. Bound by Flames reaches a precipice for both the story and their characters. It's a turning point that changes the momentum of the story. There is an acceptance, a compromise, and a heart breaking scene. There were a few times that I felt the story had filler moments, moments that weren't necessary, but that was mostly all that I found at fault. All in all, it makes for a great story. Vlad is as handsome and stubborn as he was from the days of Cat and Bones. But the interesting thing about him is that Frost chose to allow the reader to see who he really is. With the introduction of Leila in his life, he has been constantly challenged - from Leila herself and from his enemies. It's really enjoyable to see his reactions. Really, really enjoyable. I love Leila. She is a woman that should not be messed with. She is unyeilding and headstrong, often at times to a fault. She protects what is her own, and above all, she protects herself and her integrity. At times, I thought she was too stubborn (even more stubborn than Cat!) and it bordered on annoyance. The romance was just as great as the first Frost book (Hello, Bones!), and I always enjoy those scenes. There's a mutual respect that happens when Vlad and Leila are together in a romantic way, and I always savor those moments. I am thrilled that there will be another story in Vlad's life. He's a great male lead, and I could definitely read about him forever.

Love the Romance and Characters!
Jeaniene Frost writes some of the best paranormal romance that I have ever read, consequently her books are favorites for me. This series is a spin off from the Cat and Bones, Night Huntress books. It seems like forever that we have been waiting for this book, so I was more then happy when it was released recently. Leila and Vlad are a vampire couple that are trying to find Vlad's arch enemy, Szilagya. Since Leila can read essences on people's bodies that tell her who has touched them-ever, it's just one way they are trying to get information on his whereabouts. This involves her touching a lot of vampires to find traitors, not something that Vlad is happy about, to say the least. Pretty simple premise, right? Not even close. Vlad has the worse temperament of any main character that I have ever read. He's definitely not an easy character. He is, of course, the vampire that started the vampire legend from hundreds of years ago-Vlad the Impaler. So the reader should hate him? NO. His romance with Leila is one of my favorites that I have ever read. Watching the great Vlad succumb to Leila, and fall so hard for her, was the basis of a wonderful read in the first book, Once Burned. Leila was pretty much electrocuted when she was young, only she didn't die, but she did come away with an arm that is capable of killing with electricity. Needless to say, she doesn't date. With Vlad and the fire power in his body, she has found the perfect husband for herself, and now that she's a vampire, they have forever to spend together. But nothing in their life is easy. Szilagya has made it his mission to make their life hell. This book was really dark, and went places that might upset a squeamish reader. Not only is there a ton of violence, but most of it is in the form of torture. And torture is not something I am fond of reading about, to say the least. It's very telling that even after writing that, I can honestly say that I really enjoyed this read. If it hadn't been about Vlad and Leila, I might have put it down, but since it was, I was okay with it-not the torture aspects, but because I love the characters, and their romance. And also because of Ms. Frost's wonderful writing. As usual with this series, there is plenty of romance, adventure, and thriller aspects. Truthfully, I had a hard time putting it down at times. So it was a very quick read, one that I will have a hard time forgetting. I would recommend this to adult readers of paranormal romance, ones that don't mind violence in their read. Even if that does bother you, I still would suggest you try reading the first book, because of how good the romance is.(PureTextuality.com)4.5 stars!
