Inspired by the Emmy® Award–winning credits sequence that opens each episode of the hit HBO® series, Game of Thrones: A Pop-Up Guide to Westeros is guaranteed to thrill the show’s legions of fans. Featuring stunning pop-up recreations of several key locations from the series, including the formidable castle of Winterfell, the lavish capital city King’s Landing, and the Wall’s stark majesty, this book—designed by renowned paper engineer Matthew Reinhart—takes you into the world of the series like never before. Game of Thrones: A Pop-Up Guide to Westeros features a total of five stunning spreads, which fold out to create a remarkable pop-up map of Westeros that is perfect for displaying. The book also contains numerous mini-pops that bring to life iconic elements of the show, such as direwolves, White Walkers, giants, and dragons. All the pops are accompanied by insightful text that relays the rich history of the Seven Kingdoms and beyond, forming a dynamic reference guide to the world of Game of Thrones. Visually spectacular and enthrallingly interactive, Game of Thrones: A Pop-Up Guide to Westeros sets a new standard for pop-up books and perfectly captures the epic scope and imagination of the series. Review: Best Pop-Up I've Ever Seen! - The book is just beautiful! Start with the cover--It just looks impressive; I am absolutely amazed at the detail work that went into this book. The paper engineering is absolutely top notch, so kudos to Matthew Reinhart, for that part of it. The engineering is as good as any of Robert Sabuda's books. I just finished thoroughly reading all the pull-out's and information provided about the world of Westeros--one word, "wonderful!" For those who don't realize it, it is a Pop-Up book, not a novel. While a lot of information is given, it will never be what a full book could provide, so if you're looking for info. either go to the novel, itself, or a Game of Thrones Guide. Personally, I enjoyed--especially--the information provided about the various houses and some of the history of the land. I was impressed. And then...the BIG reveal! The spine of the book unhinges and you can open up all the pages of the book into one huge pop-up. Yes, all of the pop-ups displayed at one time. The publishers have thoughtfully provided an insert sheet with a diagram and instructions as how to (carefully) open your book so you don't damage it in handling. I've opened mine all the way up a couple of times, now, and if you follow the instructions, no damage results. I am amazed at the size of some of the pop-ups. Some are quite large and oh, so very impressive! Even some of the more moderately sized pop-ups are beautiful. I loved the raven, dire wolf and dragon! "The Wall" had to be my favorite, though for its impressiveness, intricacy in detail and beauty. I have a rather sizeable collection of pop-up books (Sabuda and Reinhart are my favorite paper engineers), and I've seen many, many pop-ups. This is by far, the most impressive, most beautiful, and most well engineered book I have ever seen. But please remember, this book is not one that should be given to a child: First, because Game of Thrones is not a kids story, and second, because of the intricacies of the pop-ups, a child could easily damage the expensive book. For those people who might receive a book damaged during shipping, I say, send it back and get it replaced. Authors/engineers who work to create a beautiful work, such as, Game of Thrones: A Pop-Up Guide to Westeros, do not deserve to be downgraded for something that happened to damage a book during shipping--the authors have no control over that. Give the packagers/shippers a bad mark, the authors deserve better. Care and love went into the creation of this pop-up book--you can see it just be reading and looking at this beautiful book. My book arrived in pristine condition and undamaged. Yes, you paid for it and you deserve to get an undamaged book, but if it arrives damaged, use some sense--SEND IT BACK and request an undamaged book. The authors shouldn't be penalized by knocking of 1 1/2 stars. Finally, to all Game of Thrones fans, I think you will be favorably impressed by the quality of this book. Read it, open it, enjoy it. One person seeing the book opened up all the way told me that they could see fans of the series watching it on tv/dvd, snacking on Westeros food, and the pop-up book opened up all the way on a nearby table. Sounds like fun to me. I'll come. By the way...take a look at the "Related Media" at the bottom of the book's page. Watch the video. I think you could get a good idea from looking at that. My best to you all. I hope you all enjoy your new pop-up book. Review: Best pop up book ever! - What a fabulous book! This has all of the elements of the current architecture of pop up books but oh, so much more. As you open each page you get a big pop up of one of the castles or territories of Westeros. You also have pull outs for family crests and descriptions. There are also smaller "books" that fold out for more detail. But the best part of all is that the spine is attached with magnets and can be opened, allowing the entire book to fold out into a giant map of Westeros. The only thing you need is the music for the opening credits. This is not your kiddie pop up book. This is a pop up book for adults. The pages are a little delicate for opening and wouldn't withstand the rough use of a child. But an adult will really enjoy this book. If you have a table big enough what a great centerpiece for a last season Game of Thrones viewing party.

Just AMAZING
This is the best Pop Up Book EVER!!! There are some Videos available on YouTube which I advise you to watch because the people who sell these here on Amazon only have a Cover shot attached. These been around for a while but I just found out about them recently. Which is great because they cost around $80 back than and now you can get them for around $40. They also make a great Gift for any GoT Fan.

Engineering Marvel In Pop-Up Book Design
If you're a pop-up book fan, get this. If you're a Game of Thrones fan, get this. The artistry and engineering of paper in this pop-up book is near magic. From the start, the front and back cover sets your expectations for this book. The faux leather, the raised textures, the design of it all—it looks and feels like it was printed right in Westeros. You open it up and it's like you're a kid again being transported into another world, the world of George R.R. Marting and his Game of Thrones series. We start off with Winterfell and King's Landing in the opening pages. We discover small little tidbits of information that fills in what we already know. It's written in a way that makes each place seem like it's real, that they are describing a place that currently exists, further realizing the world George has created. Pop-up books have come a long way since I was a kid. Pop-up book engineers are now a job title, and this was created with the hands of someone that wanted to push pop-up books further than they've gone before. Now, I'm waiting for a second book featuring the cities of Essos; I hope they make it. This book is a work of art. It can be used as a coffee table book, or completely opened up for display on a table. Recommended.

Nice piece, but overpriced/only 5 "pop up" pages.
It seems like a lot of reviews are from pop-up fans - I haven't owned one since I was a kid, wasn't really aware there were more "adult" books, so this may be a different perspective. I would have given it 3.5 stars if it were possible, but went with 4 since it is not - it's not really a 3, if you know what it is you are getting, at least. I was a little surprised there are only five "pop up" scenes in the book. That's it. Granted, they are large and intricate, but I expected to see a lot more of Westeros than the book actually shows. I would have much preferred more buildings/sites in smaller scale vs. only a handful in large scale. Another point you may wish to know - the cover almost looks 3-D in the pictures, like it has little bits of ornamentation on it and perhaps even textured "leatherette" (which would have increased it's value to me), but it's really just a flat paperboard cover. The fold-out feature is neat, but it takes up a lot of room - a large table - so it's not really something you would leave out to display. It is not terribly difficult to unfold and refold, but it must be done carefully. I can easily see if you aren't super-careful it only lasting a couple of times folded out. It's a cool book, just not exactly what I expected - if it had been half-the price, it would have been 5-star, but at $40 right now, it does feel a bit of a cash grab simply because it's GoT. I decided to keep it, but it will probably be the only pop-up book I will own - the experience didn't lead me to think I needed to investigate the genre any further, I just love GoT.

DELIGHTFUL and Soooo FUN
I have also given Matthew Reinharts Diagon Alley & Hogwarts Pop-up books to my relatives AND as my work white elephant gift this year & my co-workers fought over them! I won the gift exchange!! WAHOO!! They are just amazing!! Tons of pop ups in layer after layer on each page & they open up into 3D dioramas. I cannot tell you how fun these are! they will blow your mind with how intricate they are! Enjoy!!

Not what I expected
Not what I expected but very pretty. Not a traditional book. It makes almost a big map when you fully unfold the "book".

Fabulous piece of art
I just received this book today and was amazed at the various pop ups. It's very detailed and a real work of art although I haven't yet quite figured out how to open it as a map even though I'm carefully looking at the instructions on how to do it. I didn't expect a lot of writing and since I've read all 5 books so far I just got it for the design of the book itself, which is amazing. I had one tiny little rip on one of the pop ups that was easily reinforced with some clear tape.....It's a nice book to have for fans of the show and I can understand why it's the price that it is. I haven't yet read everything....it's definitely a great collection piece and definitely not for any rough handling. I'm a fan of pop up books in general and this is equal or better than the best I've seen.

A wonderful pop-up

Only one word to describe - Awesome!
The first wow goes to the intricately constructed pages. The second WOW is when all the pages fit together to form the map of Westeros!
