Works ... but ...
This was a good deal, but ... it took quite awhile to get the paint pen to work. I think I was pounding on the pen tip for about 10 minutes - not wanting to give up. I had purchased it to use on our granddaughter's new (dark wood) rocking chair - I had planned to write a personal inscription on the underside of the darkly stained wooden seat and this white paint pen worked wonderfully (ONCE I was able to get the ink to flow). I am very happy that it wasn't dried out before I even got to use it. So, if you purchase this and think it won't write, I'd recommend having a little more patience and tell you to continue pressing down on the tip because the ink will (eventually) start flowing out. Overall, I am very satisfied that I was able to write "nicely" with this paint pen. And, I'm even happier that it came in a set ... so, I'll have more for 'future' gifts. After I finished writing our personal message on the underside of the seat, I sprayed a clear coat over it to be sure that it wouldn't scratch off easily.

Wonderful white water-based paint markers!
These water-based Flymax Paint Markers are very vibrant on coated black papers and on top of lines made by alcohol-based markers (and other writing utensils)! I am extremely grateful for these markers, which are easy to control when illustrating small artwork. They work exactly as described when the directions on the back of the box are followed! I have added extra details to the box directions to help with anyone having trouble, especially when the pen is being used for the first time: 1. Leave the pen cap on and shake the pen several times prior to using. 2. Uncap, and press down on the pen tip (onto some paper) with enough force to push the tip inside of the pen. Release pressure to let the tip back out. Please do this several times to encourage the white ink to come out until the white ink flows when you write with the tip. 3. Recap the pen tightly after using. If you are using a thicker substrate to write with (like ballpoint pen ink, which is actually a paste made by dissolving dye in solvent), the white Paint Marker water-based ink might sink through the thick ink a bit and show some of the color underneath. If you are drawing on top of alcohol-based markers or watercolors, the white Paint Marker may show up better since markers and diluted paints usually sink deeply into textured paper and don't leave a thick substrate on top of the paper. Happy drawing/writing/decorating! :D

Does ok
I'm using this on paper for illustration. This is the latest new tool for white highlights that I've bought. It's actually the best so far, but still requires multiple passes so it's really frustrating when doing something intricate then needing to do it 2x or 3x. In the photo, I'm doing white lines through black ink squares with an arrow connecting a square to the tool I used. Oil based pens have consistent bad results & shelf life. The gelly roll & other steel tip pens always remove a trail of their own paint as you make lines. The zig dries up on the tip quickly & can overflow if rushed to life, & is more trouble than just using a brush/nib & white ink in a bottle (through just a little more portable than brush & bottle). The best opacity so far is from the papermate liquid paper foam tip bottle, but of course that's garbage for accuracy & lines. It could be used on a nib but that defeats the whole purpose of trying to use more portable/low maintenance tools. In fact it dries on the nib a little faster than white cartoonist ink so the bottle wins this match. (Not pictured)

Bright, Smooth, and Easy to Use
These paint pens produce a bright, opaque white line that stands out well on darker surfaces. The fine tip gives good control for writing, labeling, and small craft projects, and the ink flows consistently once primed. Having multiple pens in the pack is a great value, especially if you use them regularly.

Great Deal, great pen
I was looking for a less pricy alternative for white opaque pens (I used them for details too much :-P). Any way I purchased this to see how they would work on top of different media, and I have to say I am impressed. My ratings when used on some of those: 1. On top of Posca Pens - 4/5 stars, the only thing that works perfect on top of poscas is acrilyc paint or another posca pen, but this little pen is pretty good too. 2. Two Different Brands of Alcohol Markers - 5/5 soooo nice and it leaves a texture that I simply love. 3. On top of Posca Color Pencils - 4/5 similar to the Posca Pens, but still does a really good job. 4. On top of Media Gel Sticks - 5/5 Oh My!! This was the big surprise! I thought that it was not hoing to work because the gel sticks are very rich and creamy with a texture. The pend did a beautiful job on top of the black and blue gel sticks. 5. On top of Sharpie Markers - 3/5 I would say you can still use them with the sharpies, but it is not as impressive as with other medias or markers brands. Overall, I think these are an awesome, well priced set of pens, I am definitely buying these again.

Works Okay
These pens do not work well at all. Even when stored with point down, and point pumped in repeatedly, the paint does not flow properly. Sometimes it will make a dot of paint, but never a line. Don't buy. Update: Tried to use these again as I had nothing else at hand. Found another one seemed to work fairly well. Maybe the other was a bad one. I wanted to score a line on some metal and then clearly mark it by filling it in with the white paint. I found that it did quite well. I pressed down gently to flow some ink, and then released and drug the pen along the score. It filled the score with the white paint. Periodic compression of the point added paint flow as needed. So I am re-rating this item. Only time will tell how long the pen will last.

Paint pens are really cool. I like them!
These are great to draw with, they have a fine point that lets you actually write with them. Highly recommend them for anyone with an artist hand.

Works very well - but let it dry before disturbing
We have a group of stained glass artists who share a facility where we live, and have had difficulty finding a way to mark patterns on dark glass. Our usual black felt tip markers just become invisible. Our various white markers had lines too thick - the main problem, were too faint, or did not work consistently - extremely frustrating. Often it was more than one of these issues. But these wonderful pens solve that problem. Pros: Very nice thin line, paint flow starts quickly and stays flowing evenly - no blobs, and smears. If it does stop, just a quick push down on the tip restarts it. We do recommend it be stored with the tip either down or on it's side. If used for stained glass, the lubricant from the grinder does not wash away the paint! Con: Almost none with exception that you need to give it time for the paint to dry - usually 10-15 minutes or so. A heat gun might speed this up. Also, for stained glass work, the grinder can start to chip off if grinding right next to the paint line. Overall the pros greatly outweigh the minor cons in our view.
