can this take a Intel Core i5?

I stopped buying Intel many years ago, and will not return until they get their Act together, with their drivers their drivers download pages are such a HORRENDOUS Nightmare that THEY are not even sure which drivers are Supported, on any of their products. So bad, that they say that their own drivers may very well crash your system, and you have to agree to these terms. If their Own engineers are This Clueless, how can we have any confidence. Also, their motherboards are Notorious for being clearly lacking in at least one or two major categories. I as a System Builder, Cannot support Intel till they stop being so clueless.

Manny, ASUS makes many motherboards for AMD CPU's and for Intel CPU's. An Intel CPU cannot be plugged into nor used with an AMD branded Motherboard. When you shop specify the Processor you want to utilize en-coupled with the word 'Motherboards'. Amazon has everything you need and more. The motherboard you specified is excellent but should be used with either AMD Phenom or AMD FX CPU's up to the FX8350 8-Core CPU's. There are faster FX CPU's but they require an ASROCK 990FX Extreme 9 version-3 Motherboard to work with the higher 220W processors.

yes it is overkill but it's a great board. since u are doing video editing u would need a powerful graphics card. i would recommend an asus m5a97 because it has most of the same features as this board and would serve u well. the only real difference is overclocking capability and  the ability to have multiple graphics cards which nobody really needsl. if u pair this with a fx 6300, a corsair cx 500 or 600 watt power supply and a rosewill challenger u3 case you would have an excellent gaming/video editing build. gaming and video editing require the same hardware setup for the most part. then just get the best graphics card to suit your needs. also a word of advice DO NOT cheap out on ram. get something from corsair or gskill or another top tier brand. avoid crucial and team. get 1600mhz or 1866 ram it does not cost much more and it's worth it. hope this helps you. good luck

what kind of RAM does it take?

I am not quite sure about this question, I'll answer it the best I can.I used Patriot brand, 1600mhz 16gb, bought it at local computer store for about $150.00.  I wanted to make sure I had enough ram for any future needs.Now, to my understanding you cam use 1866 mhz without over clocking, I went for a more stable system for my rig.
