Dressing Up: Fashion Week NYC

Classic Friedlander--too much information in the frame, but wonderful images of people doing their job. The young models seem to understand that their job is to hold still while other people work on them--I love the images of the girls reading books while getting their hair done. The models are all young and thin and their skin glows, but the hands that work on them are mature and sure. In the end, it's just a job. Selling things.Beautiful printing, fun pictures.

It's good to see Yale pause in their gleaning of the furthest reaches of Friedlander's negative files to acknowledge his curiosities about new subject matter. Bringing his fully developed, optically aided viewpoint back into play, he immerses himself in the frenetic pace of backstage preparation for high fashion ramp presentation. The 'information jam' within the frame conveys the tension of the moment yet he tames it all with his adroit compositional responses. Good to see relatively new work.
