Very reliable and absolutely no overheating
Works great! We tested it for a month and it does not overheat at all, which we appreciate because other brands we tested got really hot in normal use. This is a thankful example of great PRC quality.

Occasionally stops working
Works well, but sometimes it will just quit working and need to disable/enable the device to make it work again. Typically every couple weeks. MacOS - M1 Series.

If you want to add 2.5gb to a Synology nas
I purchased this to add 2.5gb to my Synology nas. There's a bit of work involved, so it isn't just plug and play (if you know, you know). But the device works flawlessly.

No Linux driver
Not Linux compatible. The device does not report its underlaying chip, so Linux cannot load the correct driver. This limits speeds to 1gig. Do not buy for Linux use.

works for Synology DS220+ NAS with third party driver, speeds as-advertised
For those interested in the version number: I ordered this in April 2024, shipped and sold by Amazon, and the version I received was the v2.0R version (see the screenshot attached). v2.0R is RTL8156BG which is said to have dramatically lower power consumption (up to 64% decrease) and heat generation than those using RTL8156. Setup for Synology nas is a bit of a chore, but it does work. I decided to use it on my pc instead, and had to manually install the driver from the website as it did not work right out of the box. but the speeds are as advertised.

Finally able to utilize the full bandwidth to my internet provider with a macbook pro!
I have a 2019 Macbook Pro running Mac OS 11 Big Sur, and this 2.5G dongle finally lets me take full advantage of my 1.2Gbps download speed provided by xFinity Comcast on my Gigabit Internet Plan using a Netgear Nighthawk CM2000 modem that has a 2.5Gbps ethernet port. Don't let all the other nay-sayer reviewers that say you can't get more than 1Gbps on a mac deter you! Can't comment on longevity or throttling due to heat issues as I've only had it for 1 day, but my initial direct connect to my modem worked flawlessly! It auto-negotiated to 2.5Mbps and everything. See my attached speedtest from speedtest.net. Very satisfied if this thing lasts! I LOVE that there are lights on this that tell you if you're connected at 2.5G. It worked out of the box without installing any drivers, but I proactively installed the drivers direct from TrendNet so I can't comment on whether or not the TrendNet drivers were specifically needed in order to achieve the full speed beyond gigabit, but I did install the TrendNet drivers on Mac OS Big Sur.

Worked flawlessly on Macbook Pro M1 connnected to Synology 923+ 10GB port at 2.5gb. Did not require firmare updates. Could Direct connect with Cat5e without hub or cable reversal - autonegotiated However the 5B version repeatedly drops connection- below was support response Dear Customer, Really sorry for the inconvenience, unfortunately the adapter and its drivers are compatible only for MacOS 10.6 – 10.13.

Plug and play on Windows 10. Tested with iperf3 and got 2.37Gbit/s sustained.
Works. The design could be improved to have the extra usb A adapter tethered so it doesn't go missing.

Adaptateur 2.5gb super pratique, rapide et pas besoin de driver 🌐🚀💻
J'ai acheté cet adaptateur 2.5gb pour mon Nas Synology DS1520+. En effet, pour augmenter mon débit je ne pouvais pas faire du LAG car je n’ai pas assez de ports disponibles sur mon switch Netgear Manageable. Donc j’ai cherché sur le web comment faire et j’ai trouvé un tuto qui correspondait à mes attentes. ✔️ Point positif : L’augmentation du débit me permet de faire du remote RDP plus rapide sur mon réseau local en 2.5gb. Attention ⚠️ : Bien faire attention au sens pour convertir le port USB-C en USB-3.1 sinon ça ne marche pas (voir photos flèche ⏏️). J’utilise des câbles rj45 en cat7 pour être certain d’avoir de la stabilité et de la vitesse sur mon réseau LAN. Étant très content de ce produit, j’en ai acheté 3 autres pour un pc portable et 2 mini pc sur Windows (pas besoin de pilote sur Windows 10 et 11). Quelques photos et captures d'écran de mon cas d''utilisation afin de vous aider à voir l'étendu des possibilités de cet adaptateur réseau ⚙️ J'espère que j'ai pu vous aider dans votre choix 👍
