My favorite brush
The Semogue 803 Premium Boar Hair brush is my favorite shaving brush. Mind you, not just my favorite BOAR brush, but my OVERALL favorite. I own some very nice badger brushes, but I don't like them nearly as well. I'd first like to address some negatives you hear about boar brushes, as they pertain to Semogue brushes. They smell bad (especially at first): Not Semogue brushes. They smell fine right out of the box. Stick your nose right in there, it smells fine, and mine came straight from the factory. They take a long time to break in: Not Semogue brushes. They're nice and soft, right off the bat. No, not as soft as a silver tip badger, but not scratchy at all. They don't lather as well as badger: No they don't. They lather BETTER, especially face lathering. Wet shaving is a real man thing and this is a MAN's brush. Cream or soap will both lather great and make you feel like you're really doing something with them. Buy one. They're cheap, and you can't beat the quality. Semogue's the best, and they look good too.

Exceptional value
Thought I would wait to review until after a little break in time. And you will have some break in time with any boar brush. All I can say is this brush gets better after each use. I have about 15 or so shaves with it and it has gotten softer over time and I think it will end up being as soft as any silver tip I have. Boar brushes have a different feel than badger and synthetic's but that's not a bad thing. It has backbone but not hard a soft backbone and man does this lather up fast. I find my self reaching for this more often than my silvertip, pure badger or plisoft synthetic. Remember there might be a little smell mine went away after about 4 shaves. There will break in time to see the true potential of this brush. What you'll end up with is a amazing brush an exceptional value wish I would have tried this brush earlier in my wet shaving journey. I highly recommend this brush. The brush came in a nice little box good packing delivered on time. would buy again from seller. I would buy this brush again if something ever happened to the one I have now.

Terrific brush well worth the cost
This is an incredible value. This is my first boar brush, and am extremely pleased with it thus far. Freshly out of the box, the brush had no porcine odor at all. it possesed a nice tight knot, offering great backbone, without being scritchy at all. It did lose two bristles prior to its first use, but only two additional bristles in the month I've been using it since. It does require a longer time to dry completely, but the bristles are starting to split, and has developed a nice soft feel, while losing the lather hog tendency. The handle is nicely weighted, and has a comfortable shape to grip without slipping out of your hand. I use this brush along with my Shavemac finest badger, with both hard soap such as Tabac as well as croaps, specifically Proraso, and it always develops a nice slick, cushioning later. You will find, if you perform more then two passes, that you need to reload the brush but this is a minor point. overall, if you're considering a boar, this is the best you can get, especially for the money.

Amazing Brush, SofterThan the Escali Pure Badger and NO loose hairs in my bowl!
This brush is excellent!! I am totally impressed with this. I am a recent convert to wet shaving and started with the most popular Escali Pure Badger brush for $12.99. It has worked pretty well but nothing special. I quickly became addicted to purchasing different creams and now on to soaps. I found the badger did not work as desired with some of the soaps like Arko so I ventured out to get a Boar brush. I went back and forth between this and the 1305 but I really liked the handle on the 830 so I went for it. Very happy I did. This brush is actually softer on my face than the Escali badger. It has enough bite to get into harder soaps but doesn't kill your face and whips up a great lather. The handle is very high quality and the brush has a nice weight to it. There is a slight smell when you get it wet. Nothing terrible but I have just been washing it with my Pinaud Clubman Shampoo and dish soap and that has helped considerably. I think I may try the method i have seen online of covering it in your favorite shaving cream and letting it dry that way overnight. Either way don't let the smell concern you it is minor! If you are looking for a good quality affordable brush get this now!

Excellent brush for the price!
I have many shaving brushes of all types, badgers, boars and even a few synthetics. And, I've been shaving now over 50 years. Overall, this is a fine boar brush. It is softer than many and not quite as dense as some others I have. But, overall this brush delivers really good performance and value. Like all boar brushes, this one takes a few times to break it in, but much less time than other boars I've had. It does a really good job with face lathering, as it has quite soft tips for a boar brush. It's a truly fine performer. The handle is good, large enough to grip and nice looking. This brush won't perform as well as some high-end badgers, but then it's in a different class of tools. If you're looking for a moderately priced brush, that will do the job well, this is an excellent choice. I experienced minimal shedding, a few hairs now and again in three months of rotational use.

Really nice boar brush
Upon first use, I loved it. The boar bristles are noticeably more firm than a badger brush, but not aggressively so. It was not pokey or harsh in any way as I had heard. This brush provides a firmer application of the shaving lather, especially under the nose where I felt the badger was too soft, but it was still pleasantly a soft and even spread of the lather all around. It also loads up from the soap just fine. It was a bit harder to shake out the rinse water when I was finished, but it is a stiffer knot, so it is different than a badger. I really like this brush, and I'll be looking to buy more boar brushes soon. I recommend this one. One more thing, the image is a bit deceiving, the stripe around the knot is a very bright red color. In the photo, it looks like a dark red, and almost black. Based on the photo, I thought I was going to get something like a red/black tortoise styling, but it's just a typical bright red stripe. I like it as is, but I thought it was a bad photo of the true look of the color.

Meh!
I have I hard time loving this brush. I have an Omega boar that I love but it's a little plain. Semogue is a great name, long history of great brushes but this one doesn't hold lather as well as I'd like. I have to keep reloading it. It seems to have a lower knot density than my favorite Omega. Soft, well made, no shedding or odor just doesn't seem to hold the lather.

The most affordable 90% Tops Boar Brush that I know of.
Admittedly, I stumbled on this brush. I had some shopping points burning a hole in my pocket and decided that I needed a new boar shaving brush. My Semogue 1520 Superior Boar Bristle Shaving Brush (with its painted wooden handle) developed a chip in said paint. So, I decided to replace it with the 830. Wow! What a happy surprise! This brush is head and shoulders above the 1520 in both quality of boar bristle and handle durability! It's also better than the 1800 in quality of brush hair/bristle. Being very easy to break in, the brush provides a super soft face lathering experience! The 90% Tops Boars bristles make all the difference. if you don't mind a shorter, more compact brush handle, then this is the one to get. With a shorter handle, reaching down into a deeper mug is difficult. But shallower pucks and shaving bowls are no problem. With a larger handle, expect to pay close to three times as much for a 90% tops Boar Brush.

Right balance
This is my second Semogue. This time I went for the smaller 830. And it has lived up to its reputation. It’s one of the more popular ones as it combines softness with enough bone. The shave is far better when lathered with this than a very soft, equally costly nylon brush used earlier which whipped a lot of foam. Remember foam is no indication of the quality of shave. Keeping all other ingredients the same, I got much smoother and closer shave with the Semogue brush.

Bra borste
