Better safe than sorry for dog dental problems
It will take a year before I know if this product works for tartar protection on my chihuahua. I can say the taste does not interfere with her eating what I sprinkle it on. Also it's a tiny tiny about that is used, an eighth of a teaspoon maybe. So yes, the small amount can last a year. No scent.

Highly Recommended, BUT....
"Proden Plaqueoff Animal," (by the way, there is also a Plaqueoff product for people), is used to control bad breath and to eliminate tartar and plaque in dogs and cats. It consists entirely of dried granulated seaweed - and it appears to work by changing the chemical make-up of your pet's saliva. As far as I know, nobody's critter has ever had an alergic reaction to the stuff, but if your pet is sensitive to iodine, Plaqueoff may not be a good idea. The Three Muske-Terriers, a male Westie, a male Cesky and the Empress-of-All-She-Surveys, a female Scotty have been "on" Plaqueoff for more than two years, (well, the Cesky since his adult teeth came in, so about a year). A daily dose is very small, so even a 60 gram cannister will last for several months. None of our dogs object to the taste, including the Westie, who is particularly finicky when it comes to food - we usually put it in a little "ball" of food, rather than sprinkling it over everything - the ball is always the first thing they eat. I think Plaqueoff is an excellent product and it is an important part of our terriers' "oral hygiene progam," BUT I don't think that it should be the whole program. If your pet will tolerate having his/her teeth brushed, I think you should do so - especially if their diet includes "processed" foods or table scraps. And whether or not you brush 'em, your pet's teeth should be examined by your vet or a qualified technician at least once a year. A set of pearly whites looks great - but it's not always indicative of oral health - it pays to have somebody who knows what they're doing check out your pet's mouth once in awhile, (this knowledge cost me 3 grand to learn - I give it to you for free). A final note on price: For your first time purchase, the small 60 gram container makes sense - that's more than enough to "test" the effectiveness of the product for yourself. But once you're convinced that it works, you should check out the 420 gram cannister. If properly stored, Plaqueoff will not spoil, and the larger container is often MUCH CHEAPER per gram.

Works good! Not a substitute for brushing.
This stuff isn't gonna work miracles as a substitute for actually getting your dog to chew their food and use their teeth, but it is a noticeable improvement to their plaque and breath even so. It's an addition to help their teeth, but it's not a substitute, if that makes sense. My dogs hate teeth brushing; I got them older and they hadn't had it before. So I use this, dental chews, and other lick things with fluoride in them to keep their teeth in as good of shape as I can manage. At the end of the day, convincing your pet to slow down and chew their food is the best bet to healthy teeth, and slow feeders are good for that, and dental chews, but I have two labradors, who see food and immediately lose all reason, so other stuff like this tarter stuff is needed. It does help, but it's not going to replace the need for being mindful of your pet's teeth. It does have a strange smell. My dogs don't mind it mixed into their food, but they're labs, and that breed eats anything. A picky eater might be wary. My biggest complaint though, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is the container itself. Its so tall and narrow-- smaller than the photo makes it look-- that it's hard to get the stuff out once you're halfway through the thing. I ended up buying another container to just dump the stuff into, but it sucks to have to do that when I'm already paying 20+ dollars for a pretty small thing.

I gift this to my friends pets
Save yourself thousands of dollars over the lifespan of your cats and dogs. There's no need for dental cleaning once your pet starts using it. My last pet, a cat, passed away in the spring of 2020. So I haven't used it since then. However, I first started using it around 2008 when I had two other cats. Before using it, I had to take a cat to get its teeth cleaned. $300. Then I found this stuff. My cats received compliments on their dental health for the rest of their lives. When I got "catted" the next time, I immediately used this stuff in her food. Again, the compliments came. It comes with its own scoop as a powder. The serving size is very small; it's only about 1/16 of a teaspoon. My cats didn't initially care for the taste, but they got used to it once it was mixed into their food. The enzymes in the ingredients are what eat away the tartar on your dog's and cats' teeth. If I ever get another cat, after kitty litter, this is the next thing I'm buying for it. Again, maintain your pets' dental health with this.

Works Well for Dental Health, but Not Without Drawbacks
I’ve seen some clear improvements in my dog’s teeth since using this dental supplement. His plaque buildup has reduced noticeably, and his teeth look cleaner and whiter overall. I’ve also noticed better breath quality, which is a big plus. In terms of effectiveness, I can see why some customers say it’s even better than professional cleanings at the vet because it really does make a difference. However, it’s not perfect. While some dogs seem to tolerate it with no issues, mine had a bit of diarrhea during the first few days of using it. It eventually settled down, but it’s definitely something to watch for, especially if your dog has a sensitive stomach. The smell is another mixed bag. Some say it smells great; personally, I find it a bit unpleasant, though my dog doesn’t seem to mind. As for the price, I’m on the fence. It is expensive, but if it helps avoid frequent vet cleanings, I can see how it might save money in the long run. Still, for what you get, it feels a little overpriced. Overall, it’s a decent supplement that delivers real dental benefits, but the potential side effects and high cost keep it from being a perfect product.

Digestive Issues
I Wanted To Love It. I bought Plaque Off for my pack. I read all of the reviews, knew about the tummy upsets some reported. I took that information into consideration and slowly started adding a small amount to their daily meal. I had been giving the Plaque Off for more than a month, about 7 weeks, when one dog started showing signs of Gastrointestinal issues. One sick dog turned into all of my pack being sick within a 2 week period. Do I think Plaque Off caused the illness? Not necessarily because the virus seemed to be highly contagious. The best I can figure is the plague off may have contributed to a weakened immunity for all of my dogs and they were unable to fight off what ever virus one dog brought home from the Groomer. I have dogs that go to the Groomer every two weeks. This has been the norm for years. This is the FIRST time they've gotten ill, and the entire lot of them became life threatening ill. The money, medicine, special diets, quarantine and round the clock intensive care it took to save my dogs lives and get them better came at a great cost and extensive toll on us physically and emotionally. Because of the immunity issues, likely caused by upset in the gut microbiome after using Plaque Off, I discontinued using this product and will not try again. We're the two issues related? The product & the illness? I can't say for 100% certainty, but I can't take the chance monetarily or emotionally to give the product another try. I feel this review was necessary to add the voice of another customer that had major digestive issues with their pet.

This stuff does seem to really work...
When I read that clean teeth could substantially increase Lola's lifespan, that was enough motivation for me to be sure she got her teeth cleaned regularly. But, getting a dog's teeth cleaned regularly can be expensive and traumatic for the dog, especially as the dog gets older. Lola is now 12 and a half years old. Normally when a Vet cleans a dog's teeth, the dog has to be put under general anesthesia. The more I read, the more I realize that as a dog gets older, general anesthesia has its own risks. So, which is the greater risk, periodontal disease, or general anesthesia? But, then you consider the costs of a vet dog cleaning, sometimes $300, $400 maybe even $500. Plus, you have to drop your dog off very early in the morning, subjecting them to more impersonal treatment and laying around in a cage for most or all of the day, until they can get around to actually putting your dog under anesthesia, laying them on the table for the procedure, then having your dog wait around until they are back up moving about again, so you can finally come pick them up. Not my idea of a good time. Would you want to be dropped off early in the morning, left somewhere in a cage all day, put under anesthesia and then waiting for who-knows-how-long, until your master comes (hopefully!) to pick you up? I sure as heck wouldn't. So, the big question. Was it actually possible for me to do this cleaning myself? I started going online researching DIY canine tooth cleaning. That eventually led me to this product. The claims seemed very positive, but could the other reviews be trusted and more importantly, even if they could be, would Lola have a similar experience? Well it's been almost 3 weeks since I've been putting this product in Lola's food and I am now here to report that this stuff seems to actually be working. I also purchased an instrument so I could scrape her teeth. The other day when I tried scraping her teeth, the hardened, yellow tartar actually started coming off! Not in the big sheets and pieces that other reviewers described, but at least it was coming off and underneath I could see white, smooth shiny teeth. She doesn't like the process, but she does cooperate begrudgingly. To not wear out the welcome mat, I only do two or three teeth at a time, praise her, telling her, "Lola when we finish here, Daddy's going to give you a treat!" Over the last 3 or 4 days I'd say a good portion of her teeth that actually did need cleaning are now clean. So, in summary, I think this product really works. Hopefully it works for you the way some people seem to magically say. For me, and more importantly for Lola, it does seem to soften up and loosen the tartar, so when I scrape with the tool, the tartar does come off, leaving a freshly exposed, clean, bright white tooth.

Prodotto valido
5 stelle meritatissime

Seems to work well to whiten, brighten and hinder plaque development
I've waited to review this product until we'd used it daily for a month. The left photo shows my dogs teeth before and the right photo shows after one month of use. Positives - his breath does seem to be nicer, he doesn't mind the taste of it and he's notoriously picky, it's actually quite affordable because despite the initial cost being high you use so little that a single jar will last many months. No further plaque has developed. I think his teeth are a little whiter and brighter. Negatives - so it's not a cure all. The amount of plaque hasn't really changed all that much but we also bought an ultrasonic cleaner and he has a toothbrush to use as well. We'll launch into that now but I really wanted to use JUST the plaque off product for a month to see what happened before I muddied the results with other products. Possibly great long term to avoid plaque development but you should probably start with a full dental clean as it doesn't make a huge difference to already developed plaque. Ultimately I think this is a great addition to your dogs dental hygiene routine but it's not a cure all - especially if the dog already has developed plaque. I'll be really interested in the long term results now once we get the a full dental clean as to whether ProDen continues to make a difference in plaque development. We'll continue buying it.
