What alcohol is to be used in this? And can you use other fuels?

Accepted Answer

Any high alcohol content liquid should be fine. The big three being metholated spirits, denatured alcohol and BioEthanol. They are all the same really but meths has taste and colour added to stop alcoholics drinking it because it sends you blind. BioEthanol burns the cleanest and is three times cheaper than meths in B&Q. La Hacienda brand. ;)

Hi 
Just fill with liquid fuel such as methylated spirits or bio ethanol and light
As it heats up the fuel the fuel rises within the  reservoir inside it and Flames come out of the spigots resemble a gas stove mechanism. I filled with about 80 ml of meths and it burned around 15-20 mins. Long enough for meal prep and hot drink. I really rate it although I think it’s anodised aluminium rather than titanium.

How does it perform next to trangia?

These burners compared to a Trangia burner are like chalk and cheese. I have 5 Trangia burners from various past systems, old and new and the best performer of those 5 would boil 550ml of water ( 1 pint - or 2 cups ), in 8 minutes 18s. This Boundless Voyage Titanium Spirit Alcohol Stove managed to boil the same amount of water in 4 minutes 28s. That's a 49% improvement!! Do be careful with this burner though, if you're more used to the sedate Brass Trangia burner, you will find this to be quite a different animal. Where you could previously have your Trangia near to your tent, perhaps just outside the doorway without too much of a problem, this one you might find will be too close and you should increase the distance for safety. Do test this out first before using it around your tent. If you have a specific use applications requiring the same flame spread as the Trangia burner you will find that this Boundless Voyage Titanium Spirit Alcohol Stove burns to a wider area and heat up the side of the wind shield will increase.
