does it play Japanese games

Yes. The PS3 is "region free", however if you plan on buying any downloads for those games, you would have to buy them from the Japanese Playstation Store.

How reliable is the Super Slim? For those who owned it for a while, does it give you any problems? Also how loud is it when it plays discs?

Disc noise is noticeable when it's reading the disc but not overly loud. Other than that the console is completely silent. I've had the console a few months now and have had no issues with it. Some people dislike the sliding disc tray but I don't mind it. It does feel a little cheap since it's made of plastic but I see it as one less mechanical thing to break down the road. The Super Slim is a good design overall.

does it play ps1 games and ps2 games too?

Sadly, anyone that tells you that you can play PS1 or PS2 games, are definitely wrong. Plus, 599.99 for a PS3 system is a little steep. PS4's aren't even that much brand new. But only the first generation PS3's were backwards compatible. They stopped making them backwards compatible (plays PS2 and PS3 games), because Sony realized that they weren't making money doing it that way. So, after the 2nd Generation PS3's were produced, they weren't backwards compatible. Research this before you buy any products that say they will do one thing. But, Playstation has something that can allow you to play PS2 games on their PS3 system, but it barely works half the time. Almost Any kind of game you want to play, backwards compatible wise, can be found on the PS store for almost dirt cheap.
