The Good Wife: Season 1

The Good Wife is a show I nearly missed out on, partly because it takes nearly half of the first season to establish its tone and fully take flight. I tuned in originally because the premise was intriguing. The protagonist, Alicia Florrick, is the woman behind the fake political smile, standing by a man most women would be happy to be rid of. What makes someone like this tick? From the get go, it is clear that Alicia is complicated. That only develops further as the seasons unfold. If the series had just been about her, I might have lost interest. However, it is also a first-rate courtroom drama and an intriguing political drama with an enthralling romance at its center. An episode like "Bad" features the strengths that hooked me. A disarming sociopath, Colin Sweeney, is introduced and you just can't look away. Who is this man and why would any decent person defend him? There are no easy answers. Equally engrossing is "Heart" in which Alicia crosses a professional line with her boss from which they will never fully recover. And if the final moments of season finale"Running" don't hook you, then you really aren't a fan. The episodes are tightly written with both stand alone legal plots and an overarching political triangle that has multiple reverberations. The cast is uniformly good. My favorites are Josh Charles as Will Gardner and Christine Baranski as Diane Lockhart, as odd and endearing a professional couple as any I have seen. Much attention is given to Juliana Margulies and there is a reason for that. She steers the show gracefully. There is also stellar work by a large supporting cast of mostly familiar faces. If you watched Gilmore Girls, Weeds, The Sopranos, Nurse Jackie, and The Americans, you'll be happy to see familiar faces used effectively. And there are many peculiar cameos by famous faces playing quirky judges. My favorite is Ana Gasteyer as a woman who insists that lawyers in her courtroom preface everything they say with, "In my opinion." I absolutely loved this first season. Don't miss it.

This show is a really great show and I was addicted from the first few moments. It stands alone in a crowded genre. I really liked the issues it brings up about corruption, politics, law, love, religion, marriage, sex, affairs, public scrutiny. My favorite episodes include the one where they try a college roommate that's on trial for killing her friend. Even though she's not guilty, she's not guilty she ends up accepting a ten year deal because they're worried about what the jury might do. As the judge explains to the jurors how they're no longer needed, it pans to the garbage where 12 votes of not guilty from the jurors are. That to me was very poignant and moving and made you question how often that situation truly happens in real life. I also like the fact that Alicia learns lessons at work such as their role as lawyers is to their client whether they like the person or rather they're guilty or innocent. I also love how even though Alicia's husband publicly cheated on her with strippers and that its remarked that she's a sexual prude, she stays with her husband which is interesting rather than leave him and then when she has the chance to cheat with her boss/past Georgetown law "ex", rather than jump into bed or a relationship right away, she remarks that rather than romance which is the easy part that she needs a plan because family and children and parent teacher conferences are the hard part. You spend episodes invested in the should they, shouldn't they drama which culminates in the season finale. I can't wait to find out if season 2 is as amazing and earth shattering TV as season 1.

I love this show! It is also on amazon prime. I got hooked after the first few episodes and am watching current episodes now. The show clearly has great writing and it is interesting how the main character, Alicia, gets back into the working world after her husband is caught having affairs while in office. The show has comedy elements, drama, and a lot of current topics embodied into the show story lines. It is interesting to watch her character evolve and face challenges while she is raising her kids, sorting out her love life, and interpreting the law to best suit her current clients. Also Josh Charles is on this show and you can't go wrong with him! This show is definitely worth checking out!

To fully appreciate "The Good Wife," the first three episodes must be seen. They clarify the subtlety of the series and the restrained approach of the lead actress. The restraint is so taut, that another character, Kalinda, almost takes over the show - she is feisty. Arguably, this is one of the great series in TV history. You can compare it to the first two seasons of the great "Hill Street Blues" to see its glimpse approach to show everything. For example, a winning statement in a trial ends coverage of the trial. You know who won, so the show moves on. If you take TV seriously and its evolution (e.g. male sexuality is treated very straightforwardly at times), then this show is for you.

Were it not for the fact that certain series stand head and shoulders above the rest (eg. the Shield, Deadwood) this would almost deserve a 5 star rating. While it develops into a really compulsive show, it is not, nevertheless, in that exalted category. This is a series that starts off as just another US attorney show with a twist, but then grows and grows as the plot thickens. No need to go into details. If you like lawyer based shows, well acted and plotted, this goes somewhat beyond the standard format and becomes really absorbing. Roll on season 2.

When this show first aired, like a lot of other shows, there was nothing about it, aside from the fact that a regular guest star was Chris Noth, a better than average detective role on Law and Order. Not enough to have me set aside an hour each week to watch it. Since it first aired, I've seen another big legal show, "Suits", and it was just a tad unrealistic, in the way "House" is unrealistic in that it seems the main character would never get away with some of the things House and Harvey Specter pull. But then, I started watching early "ER" episodes, where "The Good Wife" lead, Julianna Margulies, was a prominent character, and one of the main reasons for watching "ER" for the first seven seasons. Margulies is not alone. Her two best supporting actors are Josh Charles, from "Sports Night" and Christine Baranski, from guest appearances going back 30 years. Both are more realistic than the principle partners on "Suits". Other actors also add a lot. Chris Noth is solid in his role. Archie Panjabi, as Margulies' firm's investigator is first rate for a young actor. Even better is Alan Cumming, who plays the political expert behind the Noth character's rehabilitation. He's a lot like the Bruno Gianelli character on "The West Wing", except that his role is not quite so exaggerated. He really plays the part of a back room "wartime consigliore". Everything really "clicks" in this first season. It all works so well that I hope the wheels don't come off for at least another two or three seasons. What may be missing is that unlike the ER, there is little room to add additional permanent cast members. Executive producer is Ridley Scott, and this show has the same nice 3 part balance between home, office, and courtroom that I liked in "Numb3rs." wish it luck. A few visits by some "Numb3rs" stars can't be bad.

My best friends all watch TGW (That's the special girlie jargon for the followers of this show... ;) Anyway, I did not like it much at all. But as a good buddy, I kept on keeping on.... I liked season 3 better and made my way through season 4. Season 5 is currently on TV (CBS) and I am watching it. After I'm finally over with this binge, just like an anorexic I'm going to purge. I feel as though I've wasted an un-Godly amount of time watching this entire series. My time would have been much better spent re-watching Breaking Bad or The Sopranos while eating Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream. Sorry Julianne.

While scanning my DVR, I noticed that I had the first 32 episodes of "Good Wife" in the "keep" bin. Usually, if I start keeping large numbers of episodes, that is my signal to go buy the DVD. In this case, the DVD was scheduled, but not quite out, so I pre-ordered. When the package came, it held six full length DVD's. Besides the 23 episodes from the first season, they help a plethora of extra features, outtakes (eh, not impressed with outtakes), writers' discussion, character profiles, just a lot of good stuff. Bottom line, this set is not nearly as expensive as it seems at first glance. You get a lot of good stuff for your Euro. If you like the series, I recommend it, highly.

Le sujet est rarement traité; les personnages sont remarquables par leur force, leur personnalité trés combative; pas forcément morale. J'ai beaucoup appris sur la justice américaine; les dialogues sont forts, percutants; la traduction française irréprochable. IL faut cependant aimé le milieu justice-avocats etc;jamais de longueurs; dans un même épisode plusieurs histoires sont traitées. Je n'arrive pas à trouver la saison 4(je l'ai vue chez une amie) saison 4 en français et à un prix correct. Je recommande cette série.

He pedido los DVD de la primera temporada y han llegado en perfecto estado, nuevos , impecables. La visualización es muy buena, tal como la vi hace años en televisión. Está grabada en español y otros muchos idiomas. El audio es asimismo impecable.

The reason this stands out for me is because it is from the defences point of view. The only other legal dramas I watch, and I'm not sure you can even call them that, are the law and orders, so this was for me a new experience. Alicia florrick is well played, very subtlety and believably by juliann a Marguiles. Her simple acting is for me one of the best things about the show, she isn't too out there, she seems very real and natural. Similarly with all the other characters, calinda, will, carey anD particularly Diane. The relationship between them is also very believable. The simmering relationship between Will and Alicia is so well played, I am glad the way it continued in season 2 (I won't say what this is). The finale of season 1 is simply brilliant, one of the most OMG moments of TV, and completely unpredictable. The children of Peter and Alicia are well entwined into the story, how they react to the disaster that has hit their family is fascinating to watch. Alan cumming as Eli gold is one of those characters you don't know where you stand with, he's very ambiguous, you don't quite know where he is going, whether he is good or bad, but you really want to find out. The slow pace with which this starts is intriguing, definitely one of the better elements of a brilliant show. Definitely recommended

アメリカ版のレビューになります。 日本でも人気のあったERとSEX AND THE CITYに登場していた二人がメインキャラクターなので、ドラマ好きには、とても楽しい作品だと思います。 SEX AND THE CITY のミスタービッグがこのドラマでは、セックススキャンダルと賄賂の疑いで失職して収監された元検事です。主人公は初期ERで看護婦キャロルを演じていた女性で、大学卒業して弁護士の資格を取ってすぐに結婚して夫を支えていました。夫の失職で、約２０年ぶりに弁護士に復帰します。 メインは、主人公の弁護士業の話で、サブプロットに、陰謀にハマった（自業自得でもあるけれど）夫の裁判の行方、夫のセックススキャンダルに苦しむ家族の話、主人公と大学時代の友だちとの友達以上恋人未満の関係、が語られます。 ストーリーも素晴らしいけれど、登場人物も個性があって良いです。 個人的には、弁護士事務所で調査員をしているカリンダがヒットです。とてもクールなインド系の美女で、なんでもやってのけます。 そしてこのドラマを一番興味深くしている点は、主人公と夫と大学時代の友達であり現在の職場のボスとの三角関係です。 主人公は家庭を大切にしたいと思いつつ、仕事も面白くなってきます。更にボスは優秀かつジョークが面白く、大学時代から今も主人公に片思いで、陰日向に主人公を支えています。 ちょっと主人公が優等生すぎる所もあるけれど、最近のドラマでは久々の佳作です。シーズン１で２０回以上あるので、見応えも十分。最後はシーズン２も見なきゃ、と思わせる終わり方も素敵です。

Une nouvelle réalisation de très grande qualité produite par Ridley Scott. Il est tout à fait intéressant et instructif, particulièrement dans l'actualité du moment, de voir de l'intérieur le véritable travail d'enquêteurs auquel doivent se livrer les avocats aux Etats Unis et on en apprend beaucoup sur le système juridique de ce pays ! En outre, chaque épisode est consacré à une intrigue différente et très bien construite avec en toile de fond, l'enquête autour de l'affaire du mari de l'héroïne et tout ceci est vraiment passionnant. Et enfin, on ne peut qu'apprécier dans le rôle principal Juliana Marguilès dont les qualités d'actrice et le charme trouvent enfin un emploi à la mesure de ses capacités ainsi que l'attachante Archie Panjabi qui excelle dans un rôle indispensable à la série.
