How far does the actuator rod extend?

I could not get either of my two solenoid coils to move the actuator rod, the magnet holding the rod in it's retracted position is fairly strong. The rod is NOT retained on it's travel though, if you can get overcome the magnetic force that is holding the rod in it's retracted position it will probably go flying somewhere..

What are the on and off actuation times?

Depends how often you switch it, it is not a 100% duty cycle solenoid though.

Does this push when power applied or does it pull?

The actuator rod extends when voltage is applied to the coil, well it's supposed to extend. The two I received the rod was held in place with a magnet and the energized coil did not have enough force to overcome the strength of the magnet. By this time the coil was very hot with all that current running through it.

what is proper voltage for the solenoid ? I connected 5.5 VDC but the rod is not moving and the solenoid got too hot.

I don't think there is a proper voltage to make the actuator rod move, the magnet that holds the rod IN is fairly strong and as you bump the voltage up to increase the magnetic field the current increases which ramps up the heat. See my review for more details.
