Top notch quality and worth the money
The quality of this item is worth the money you’ll pay for it. I was using an old Parker straight razor, and it was starting to get a little rust. And I’m glad I upgraded to this item. Much easier to handle and it does feel premium. I love the way to insert the blades into it and the way you remove the old ones without the fear of unfitting yourself. Along with blades, it’s worth every penny. It doesn’t irritate my skin and it feels that you won’t cut yourself unless you’re no careful in placing the blades into your skin.

Astonishingly comfortable shave
This is an astonishingly comfortable razor. I bought the softguard blades and my first shave with it was a full 3 pass shave. No nicks, no irritation. Normally I only get shaves this comfortable with a Merkur 34. If you have sensitive skin and want to have a straight razor experience, this with the softguard blades is it. The build quality is great, even with the plastic handle. If I had known it would shave this well I would have paid the extra for the nice wood handle. I might still get one later, but my bet is this one will last a lifetime anyway. The design of the head is fantastic. Feels very protective, very sturdy, and the weight is a great aid to the shave. It is super easy to find the correct angle and maintain it- and it is forgiving if you don’t. Easy to clean, disassemble and reassemble. Blades can be loaded injector style so there’s no need to touch the blades. I could do with a shave this mild every day, but it shaves so close it would probably be another couple days before I need one. I would even feel safe going with one of the more aggressive blades, which is saying an awful lot for someone with sensitive skin like mine. If you’re on the fence and worried about irritation, get the soft guard blades and give this a try. It will amaze you.

Great alternative to the real thing. Takes the learning curve of honing out of the picture.
This thing is awesome. I have a very thick course beard and dull Mach 3 blades in a single use. My electric gets stuck in my beard if I let it grow for 3 days. This swipe right through it with ease. Very close and clean. I was new to straight shaving when i first started using this thing about a year and a half ago. Since then I will never go back. The feather blades are extremely sharp and can hold an edge for about 7 shaves before I start nicking myself. I can start to feel a little more resistance with the blades as they start to dull. The handle is not flashy but it works, I have had no issues. I have had to clean it from time to time as the inside gets some soap residue. During the week if I leave too much water on the blade before putting it up, I will see some browning appear along the blade, never the actual handle. I try to make it a point to shake it off after each use. Also I clean out the inside of the razor holder each time I take an old one out. If you are just getting in to straight shaving and you want a better experience then the parker can offer this is the best thing to start out with. There is less initial cost then a true straight blade which you have to learn how to hone and all. This offers ease as well when it comes to traveling. You don't have to worries about finding time to sharpen your razor, just slip in a new blade and you are set. For $20 you get 20 blades that last 20 weeks. This thing just saves you money.

A pretty good shavette
This is a shavette, which is a straight razor with replaceable blades. The main selling point of the SS is that it takes Feather Artist Club blades, which are better than normal single edge razor blades. The handle is plastic. The blade holder is spring loaded and has a hole that is designed to receive the peg on the Feather blade holders. The blade holder is metal. I can get over the fact that the handle is plastic because most of your grip will be on the metal part and that feels nice. This shavette is considerably nicer than the cheapo $20 shavettes that you can also find on Amazon. The blade holder is contoured to push your skin down a bit, making it less likely that you'll cut yourself- you're still more likely to cut yourself with this than a double edge safety razor though. In addition, the Artist Club blades are great, and you have a variety of blade types available- I use the standard Pro blades, and one blade lasts me for at least a week of shaving, and they only cost about $0.50 per blade. If you have a thick beard, you might want to try the Pro Super blades, which stick out from the holder a little further and are a little thicker. I wish this were a few bucks cheaper, but since you can use the SS for decades the extra few dollars doesn't matter enough to take a star off. If you want to shave with a straight razor but don't want to deal with sharpening your blade all the time, this is the shavette you should use. Stay away from the cheapo shavettes, they will ruin your experience.

Great Razor! Complete control.
I am truly in love with this razor! It is my first foray into straight razor shaving. I can't imagine wanting or needing anything else. I am more into soaps, creams, oils, lotions, and creating thick foamy lather than I am into stropping and honing. It already takes quite a bit of time to go through the pre-shave routine and then actually shave with a straight razor, so I'm really not interested in maintaining the sharpness of the blade. This is the perfect solution. You will get the straight razor experience without all the maintenance overhead. In fact, the machine-honed disposable blades will be much sharper than a traditional straight-razor blade, which is why many straight-razor enthusiasts will recommend a traditional straight razor for newbies over a razor like this. It is much, much sharper. But not to fear. You are in complete control. You will learn to tweak the variables to the specific needs of your face - the blade, the angle of attack, the amount of pressure on the blade, the pre-shave preparation, and the slickness and thickness of the lather. It took me about a week to get the hang of how to use the razor and I can now do WTG, XTG, and ATG passes without any nicks or cuts. Just take your time and use a light touch. What I did was to use this razor for the easy areas in the beginning and clean up the rest with my DE razor, I started out only doing the cheeks with a WTG pass, then added the neck WTG, then XTG, and finally ATG. I use a Feather Professional blade and I can get about 10 shaves out of each blade. These blades are super sharp and come out extra hot right out of the box, so I recommend researching how to cork the blade. I can't imagine going back to a cartridge-based razor again. I get such baby-smooth shaves from this razor and I am also free to focus on the part of shaving that I find most enjoyable -- playing with all the shaving soaps, creams, and lotions.

Great Razor!
Let me preface this with I have used and presently own electric, disposable cartridge, shavette, Feather DX and classic straight razors. They all have good and bad points. Often the trade-off is time, effort and closeness of shave. I believe this razor is the best at balancing those attributes. While the closest shave I have had (or probably ever get) was with one of my Theirs Issard the investment in time to get and maintain the edge, is presently, too high for me. I am using the Feather ‘Professional’ blades and the first shave with a new blade is usually bloody if I am not paying attention. That is the bad news (if having too sharp a razor can be a bad thing), the good news is the blade ‘mellows’ after the first shave or two. I normally get several (at least a week’s worth of) shaves on a blade. What I really like about this changeable blade razor over others I have used is the ‘feedback’ I get while shaving. The ‘feedback’ is about the same as with my Theirs Issard that cost many times more than this one. I also have the Feather DX and I like the Feather SS 10x better. It is more comfortable to shave with and use. I can’t explain it but it is. So if you are on the fence about trying straight razors or trying this particular one I highly recommend this razor and hope that your experiences are as good as mine. BTW, I have not been compensated or endorsed to provide this feedback, I paid full price for this razor and blades and was prompted to write this review only by my experiences and the hope that others enjoy it as much. Happy shaving!

Be Careful of Rust
I am new to the use of "disposable" Straight Razors (aka Shavettes). I finally chose this Feather SS Folding Razor for the following reasons: * I chose the folding version so when stored, the blade is protected (and not exposed so I don't accidentally cut myself) * This particular razor has received high regard on many of the Shaving forums I've searched through * This razor has a good price point for the level of quality given Now that I've had this razor for a couple of months, here are my thoughts so far: What I liked: * I'm very happy I decided to get the folding version of this razor. In folded form it is compact, the blade is well protected and it's safe to handle. When in use, in the opened position it has a good balance and working it over the face is easy. * Partnered with the recommended Feather Artist Club Super blades, and whether you're shaving a 5 o'clock shadow or a full grown beard, this razor will easily glide through it. * It's ironic that the product is called "Feather" but the razor has bit of heft to it, so it works its' way through the beard without having to exert too much pushing force. * I like that this razor has a more angular point to it (vs a rounder or oval point). This makes detail work and getting to the hair in tight areas (like around the nose and in the chin area) easier to work on. * The spring-mounted "clip" like mechanism that holds the razor in place is easy to work with, holds the blade in place well and disassembles/reassembles easily for cleaning and drying off the internals. What I don't like: * Especially if you live in a place that has hard water and if you don't use your razor everyday, it's very important to disassemble the razor holding mechanism after use to make sure you completely dry it off, before putting it away. After a couple of uses and then replacing the blade, I noticed rust starting to form at the center of where the blade is, inside the holding mechanism. Even though I dry the outside of the razor thoroughly after each use, when I disassembled the razor I noticed there's still at least a couple of drops worth of water inside and that cause the rust to start forming. It took a little rubbing, but I was able to remove the rust spot and now I make sure to dry it off completely (including disassembly) after every use and there's been no further rust issues since. * Because this razor uses a clamping mechanism to hold the disposable razors, it's not an elongated blade with a completely flat form like a true straight razor blade would be. This results in having to use multiple, short strokes and cleaning off the razor frequently otherwise the shavings would jam up where the clamp holds the razor and if it collects into a large enough clump it'll drop a little dollop of yuck on your shirt (or chest if you're not wearing a shirt while shaving). Not a huge deal, but it does limit your shaving technique. I was hoping this disposable straight razor would do the trick in making and keeping me happy in the realm of straight razor shaving (since I chose it over buying a true straight razor) but I feel like there's still more a true straight can offer and so I'll likely be going that route soon. But in the realm of disposable straights, this Feather SS Folder is a great option and I highly recommend it.

A fantastic shave every time
I think this will be with me for a long time. If mine gets somehow stolen tomorrow, I'd probably order another one without hesitation. I have straight razors - an Iwasaki kamisori, and Hart Steel 6/8 square tip - and this still finds a lot of use. There's something to be said about the convenience, while still retaining the form and function of the straight razor. The blades aren't cheap, but compared to a modern razor, they are a pittance. Meanwhile, I'm always assured a very sharp blade. Sometimes when my razors are due for a honing, I reach for my feather to get that close shave they aren't doing at the time. I know some people think to use this as a straight razor starter. I can't say that's a terrible idea. Keep in mind that it is lighter and sharper then the average straight razor. Also, the blade angle will be a little different (although that can be said between various straight razors). I do think you can get most of the technique, although in a way you are going the harder route. I cut myself up the first time I used this, and that's after using straights a long time and being careful. I can only imagine a novice. That said, it doesn't take long to get the technique down.

Perfecta!

Feather SS Razor - engineering marvel.
This Shavette is a very elegant shaving tool. Practical, comfortable, well balanced. Very thoughtful design. Utilises feather blades. I used pro guard ones which have been great. Gives very comfortable shave and close, smooth shave. Any person interested in having this razor will not be disappointed. But you should pair it with the blades that suit your experience level and or beard density.
