Chamberlain PD210D Power Drive 1/2-Horsepower Security-Plus Chain-Drive Garage Door Opener, Blue and White

We installed this garage door opener on a single door garage. It was a new installation, so we had to install a mounting bracket using our own components and run electricity to the unit and wall switch. We have installed multiple garage door openers (replacement & new installations) & found this unit easy to manage & easy to install. Installation: FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. There are pictures throughout that give you specific locations for assembly. 60% of the assembly clips together without hardware. The sensors clip on to the rail track (or there are flanges for optional attachment) & the only thing you need to be aware of is that the sensors need to "see" each other - there is plenty of adjustment. All of this is explained in the instructions. Wiring: the opener comes with little staples, but these staples aren't very user friendly for attachment to sheetrock (they are short & small & you'll end up hitting your hand because there is no room to hold on to them). We used bigger electrical clamps with longer screws to hold up the wire (where there was more tension) & just used the staples to keep the wire attached to the ceiling. In our opinion, unless you are attaching to wood, the kit staples will not keep the wire secured to the ceiling. Estimated Assembly time for replacement installation: 1 to 1-1/2 hours Estimated assembly for new installation: 3 hours, depending upon what you need (may need to reinforce garage door) The package comes with everything indicated: opener unit, sensors, some brackets, car opener, & wall opener. The wall opener has a nice, large pad so it is easy to find in a dark garage. Quiet factor is ok. The opener motor doesn't seem to be any quieter or louder than any other basic Chamberlain unit we've installed. Price-wise, this unit is in line with other similarly featured door openers. I plan to purchase another one for another single garage door. Recommended.

I bought this for my garage which uses metal type folding doors. Instalation wasn't too difficult although a bit laborious. Have used it for 6 weeks without any problems. I like that the light has a motion detector and comes on without opening the door. I did have a small issue with the door not closing properly, acting like the saftey signals were being tripped. It ended up being the rail. It was elevated resulting in the saftey mechanisms thinking the door was hitting something. I have had no problems since. I would recommend this product.

I installed two of these chain driven Chamberlains for two doors. My wife was not available to help me with the install (she is not easy, affordable or quiet [just kidding, dear]). However, I was able to do them both myself with the help of a 6 ft ladder, a Makita cordless, a socket set, and a screwdriver. It took me about 38 minutes to assemble the first one and 20 minutes for the second one. After that, each unit required about an hour to attach brackets and mount. A fairly easy job that required some skill. I needed to purchase the screws/bolts required to mount the unit to the support (they give most but not all screws/bolts as every garage is different). My garage required installing brackets to the supports as well. I like my wires neat, so I purchased an Arrow electric staple gun - a good move (the one I bought can handle rounded and squared staples along with one size of nail). Installing the sensors is required, and putting up all of the keypads and sensor wires for both units took about 40-50 minutes. A piece of cake job (with a staple gun), and the sensors mounted easily on their brackets. A light bulb and some tweaking are required (15 minutes each unit). Adjusting the door up and down limits is a trial and error method of rotating two screws to the correct position (opening and closing the door to make sure it goes high/low enough). I didn't have to tamper with the force adjustments, but I don't have heavy wooden garage doors. I helped my buddy install his Chamberlain Primo Belt Driver unit, and I honestly don't think it's that much quieter to justify the extra expense. However, my garage isn't connected to my house, so I don't hear it. It's probably worth the extra $ if a main room is right above the garage. It's not a huge difference, though. 5 stars as it's a great buy for the money. ** Added ** - I've had these for about four years now, and no problems. They work work well with the Security+ keychain remotes that I've purchased.

I had a Raynor opener die on me, I thought about calling a company but decided to give this a shot as I am somewhat handy. The instructions were clear and concise. The step-by-step build was easy, just took a few tools and some time. Installation into the ceiling and wall was easy since I used the same mount in the ceiling and wall with a few adjustments, which included replacing the brackets. Overall I am happy with it, it's not super quiet since it's a chain, however considering the entire process took me a few hours it was a great product and experience. FYI, my door didn't open all the way. I had to adjust the UP/DOWN on the side of the motor in order to get it to go high enough. I turned it a lot, 12'ish times before it reached where it should be.

This is a basic unit with one clicker. It's replacing a 20 year old Genie Trak Drive unit. I have four other Chamberlain openers, and there's never a problem. If you plan to install yourself, you need to understand that this is going to be a time consuming job. This one took me one hour to assemble, and another 1.5 hours to install with all wiring -- using a staple gun. It's easy to staple through a wire -- I did it, but fortunately there is a diagnostic light that tells you that you screwed up, and what you did wrong. The travel adjustments work well, and it works very nicely. I'd buy another one. UPDATE 01/2014: Just bought another one as one of my other openers went bad (use one for each door -- 3 in total). Now this opener comes with a multifunction control (according to the description), that's much nicer than the doorbell switch that came with my original purchased unit 3+ years ago. Good value.

So far the opener works well, runs quiet enough and has a fairly smooth operation. Synced to my car's Homelink without any trouble and all of the features work as advertised. Installation was not difficult, but the instruction manual is written poorly and often the diagrams aren't super helpful. The manual didn't cause any major issue, it just made the job take a little longer than it should have. During installation I found that the chain wasn't long enough to reach all the way around the rail. Called Chamberlain, talked to a friendly CSR who told me that this is a known issue and sent me an extension. This problem delayed my install for a week while I waited for the part to arrive. Overall the product works well, I don't regret the purchase, but the chain being too short is big issue. Chamberlain could easily solve this problem in manufacturing or by adding the extension to the box before shipping it to retail.

I've owned this product for almost two years now, and its performed well. My application was unique, having very little space between the ceiling and door (5"). Also the door spring sits over top of the door where you are supposed to mount the rail. I had to modify a bracket and mount the rail and motor very close to the ceiling. I should also mention that my door is fairly heavy 8X16 steel insulated. The only problem I had was the chain would "jump" over top of the piece that slides on the rail causing it to grind and bind up. This may have been due to my specific application, but it looks more like a design problem with the rubber piece on the slide. I added a piece of metal to the slide that prevents this and have had no troubles since. I've heard noisier openers, but I would not label this one as "quiet" either.

I purchased this first and loved it so much I bought a 3/4 hp for my garage door. This unit was for my pole barn and it lifts a 12' wide 10' high door. The door is aluminum and insulated. I needed an additional extension kit for the taller door. (All GDO's come set up for 7-8 foot doors and you will need an extension kit if you have a taller door). I had zero issues installing and I found the process to be straight forward and simple. I will say that the directions can be a bit confusing if you need the extension kit, as you have to diverge from the instructions that came with the GDO and refer to the instructions that came with the extension kit. The kit you get may fit different sized doors and you will need to use the parts needed according to your door size. This is not an issue if you take your time and read carefully before you go sticking stuff together. The instructions work fine if you take the time to read and understand them. As far as how the GDO works, it’s great. Of course if your door is installed properly, a 1/2 GDO will open the heaviest doors. After all they are all designed to be opened easily by hand when installed correctly. So this unit is plenty fine for a big garage door like mine. I will note, as do the instructions, that if you turn the GDO light on using the switch on the wall control, the light will stay on until you turn it off. I left mine on over night not realizing that it would not turn itself off. Not that this is an issue, but its something to keep in mind. Something else to keep in mind is the distance that the remote control will work. You have to be in the driveway close to the door for the remote to work. Honestly I could care less about this, but it is something you should think about. You can’t open your door from down the road. Other than those notes, I have nothing negative to say at all. It’s quiet enough for sure. I did get a 3/4 hp model for my main garage door. Besides the extra features which are nice, but I could honestly care less about, my garage door is wood with traditional extension springs. The springs can not be adjusted enough to make the door "Light". You can still open it by hand, but it’s much heavier than my Pole Barn door. I didn't want to over work a 1/2 HP GDO when they are clearly made for standard door installations. The 3/4 yanks my wood door around like a rag doll. I mean to say it has zero issues with the weight of the door, not that it actually jerks the door around. I would recommend these units to anyone.
