Am I breaking apple carplay licence by using this?

Why would you? This software is already installed in the vehicle and this device is activating it. This is a 300 option at the dealership.

Will this work on my 2016 a class alg line 2.1 litre?

I have a 2016 CLA 1.8 Shooting Break and it works.

Will this work with a 66 plate Mercedes A45?

Unfornately my item did not work and I returned it on the 5th September 2019. It went through the standard "Diag" screen at start but within the Carousel in the Telephone Settings it did not unlock Apple Carplay or Android auto.
