This is a blast!
This is where my experience is coming from:I started playing basket video games in the 80's. Magic Johnson's Fast Break was the first I had mastered. Once I get attached to a basketball video game, it is hard for me to move on; I will try others, but moving from one favorite to another is hard to do and doesn't happen often. After Fast Break came NBA JAM. It was my favorite arcade style game. NBA Street Volume Two topped that and remained my favorite until this newest incantation of NBA JAM. IF you haven't noticed the pattern yet, I can tell you that I love the simple arcade style play. Big moves and big blocks are a big draw for me.This game is now on top. It is going to take something amazing to make me switch my favorite again. Unlocking the old school players is great. The new controls are much different from anything I have used before (I loved that NBA Street Volume 2 still allowed me to use the control pad) but were very easy for an old dog like me to learn. If you started your gaming in the 80's and love arcade style basketball, give this one a shot, it brings back the nostalgia of the original.Great game.

BOOMSHAKALAKA!
When it was announced NBA Elite was being canceled and this was coming out as a full game i was excited. Now im not a fan of sports games. Way too complicated and I could care less about stats and seasons. But this game is fun. Ive played many versions of this through the years and always loved it. Simple yet challenging. Not a fan of the double stick play but you can use the buttons as well. Quick and easy fun without the hassle of learning a ton of moves.Graphics are good and online play was ok. Got tossed offline a few times with a wired connection but got back on quick. Wish they had a better way of finding friends on line but I think thats more the PSNs fault.

Pure candy coated fun, boom-shacka-lacka!
This is not for basketball purists at all. This is basketball in it's pure sugar form. Lots of gravity defying dunks, alley-oops, steals, blocks, and behind the back passes. This is just the fun stuff in basketball. There is a classic campaign, which you play every team in the league in 2vs2. That's fun, but then remix is where it gets interesting. I found after beating every team plus Magic/Bird it can get redundant in the classic campaign. So I tried remix mode, you have to face every team 3 times in various game modes. There's 21, so you vs 2 CPU controlled players battle to get to 21 first, winner's outs, so this is tough. Smash mode, where you try to dunk as many times as possible to break the other teams backboard before they break yours. Elimination, it's tough but you have to score from various spots on the court, thank god it's loser's outs. 2vs2 remix, where it's a normal 2vs2 game but with occasional power ups, like a speed power up which is good if you get it, or mini-mode which is a detriment. The power ups last only about 2.5 possessions but they can turn the tide of a game sometimes. Then there's boss battle, you play a boss at 1 on 1, like King James. The bosses have special powers so it is a challenge. The graphics are good, and game play really is easy and fun. Very true to the old arcade game, like the 3 consecutive shots makes you on fire, and you can hit almost anything and get amazing dunks. Lots of players from the original can get unlocked from various achievements. Once you unlock them you can be them or play against them. It's cool to see Stockton, Malone, Mark Price, Bird, Magic, Pippen, and Rodman. If you enjoyed the classic arcade then this is going to be great nostalgic fun. Not only the game play, but seeing the great players and uniforms from the early 90's. Plus the remix mode offers interesting additional games. I definitely recommend this game, it's fun and is easy to play. Boom-shacka-lacka!

BOOMSHAKALAKA!
I do not like basketball but I love NBA Jam. I used to play it way back when it was on the SNES so it was a must get for me. But since it's not your traditional basketball game, most true NBA basketball game fans probably wouldn't like it too much and would probably play it to pass time. The game can get boring if played alone but can also be fun when played with friends. Again, I love the game, but I wouldnt consider it a buy if you don't love it yourself.
