A good companion

I have a desktop Java background, and a couple of simple Android projects under my belt. I chose this book based on its list of contents, in order to delve into Android and it proved to be a good choice.Subjects covered in chapters 2,3,4,6 turned to be very useful and enlightening to me, as I resolved many issues I could not resolve through Internet information. Chapter 8 also, especially Renderscript part is very interesting.I recommend this book to people who already have a basic knowledge of Android and want to fill in some blanks and make the next step on it. Some recipies may come handy to more seasoned developers. Maybe not recommended this book to absolutely entry-level programmers.

Confusing Book

The author refers to "recipes" throught his text (only up to chapter 1) but the "recipes" are not even titled or numbered in any way.....so what the hell is recipe 1-10??? He talks about creating an app titled "Univerter" (available for download on the website), he discusses a bunch of tools in the SDK directory and then he writes "Use the android tool to create Univerter and then use Ant to build the project"...what android tool? the main eclipse/android? or some other tool in the tools folder? or in the build-tools folder? Then he writes a bunch of code (not java or xml, eg android create project - t 1 -p....) and he says "invoke the following command from anywhere in the file system!!!! Is this a joke?? What file system? in the Eclipse/android interface? in windows cmd.exe??? in my hard drive's "file system"?? I hate it when authors aren't clear about the crap they put in their books.I might be wrong, but I've spent hours on this thing, I'm going to try a google search, but this reflects on the author as he takes on the role of a teacher.
