JBL Flip 5 Portable Bluetooth Speaker with Rechargeable Battery, waterproof, PartyBoost compatible, midnight black

Wanted to upgrade a stereo pair of little Sony SRS-XB10's that have been working faultlessly in my conservatory for two years. Straight out of their boxes, (having paired only the left Flip with my phone & using party boost to link them)) they sounded amazing, with plenty of tight, dynamic bass, although the treble was a bit harsh, but the party boost only seemed to produce a mono effect, so I installed the JBL Portable app to get stereo. This terrible app is very basic & could not find the speakers if they were already switched on. After some experimentation, I discovered a solution. 1. Make sure both speakers are off & your phone's bluetooth is on. 2. Launch the JBL app. 3 Switch on left speaker, (it pairs in a couple of seconds) & press party boost. 4. Switch on right speaker. JBL app should see both speakers. 5. Press party boost when instructed in the app & set stereo in app. Play music to confirm stereo. Close app. From now on you don't need the app. Now, when switching on, make sure phone's bluetooth is on, switch on left speaker, press party boost, switch on right speaker, press party boost & Hey Presto Stereo! Bit of a long-winded description, but hope it's useful. You don't need the app if you only want mono, Just switch on left speaker, press party boost & repeat on right speaker. OK, I'm not claiming they're hi-fi as such, but they're certainly fun to listen to & draw you into the music, whatever the genre. I have to say I agree with the What Hi-Fi review. The harsh treble is now smoother after a few days use. Amazing how good a stereo pair can sound. So far, I have charged them once, using wall chargers rated at 1amp, (they took around two & a half hours) & they are showing about three quarters full after seven or eight hours use at half volume. I haven't used them outside yet, tried video sync or chucked them in a bowl of water! UPDATE 16th June 2021: Charging time is just under 2 hours & batteries last around 15 to 16 hours at 25 to 50% volume. The left runs out before the right as it transmits the signal to the right. I use them about 10 feet apart indoors & they also sound excellent on the patio about 15 feet apart. Still very happy with them. 2nd UPDATE 10th September 2021: Still very happy, enjoying them even more. Discovered after a lot of listening that they sound even better placed as far apart as possible, (but not in the corners) facing straight, (not toed in) & lying flat. Batteries seem to average out around 8 to 10 hours at 50% volume. Harsh treble now much smoother.

Underated. No stupid apps or idiotic security. Plug and play via Bluetooth, high quality sound where the base is exceptional. It has taken a lot of punishment over the years and clearly has a heavy duty.

This is the 2nd one I have brought. The 1st one was for myself (Black) and I was so impressed I brought a second one for my Wife (Green). JBL are right up there with BOSE in regards to sound quality. We brought the FLIP5 to use with our phones when out and about on our mobility scooters. It works perfectly as intended. If you use for music without an equalizer it will last for a good 12+ hours on one charge. If like Me you like the best sound possible then I use a software graphic equalizer and fully charged the speaker will last around about 8 hours which is amazing. I have a small BOSE speaker that only lasts about an hour tops. I can't praise this product enough for sound quality and price. The feature to connect several FLIP5's is amazing. We had tried the connect my Flip5 with the BOSE which can be done via 3rd party apps but the latency is awful and the range pitiful. If I'm playing a music genre we both like we will hit the "Figure 8" button and share my music to my wife's FLIP5. It has zero latency and we can be as much as 100m apart and it still keeps connected. Don't be tempted to buy any other brand, this is amazing and if I need another FLIP5 I'm definitely gonna buy it. You get what you pay for and in the case of JBL you get a little bit more than say BOSE.

While scant on features this speaker delivers rich, detailed sound with a naturally bassy profile - which personally suits my tastes. I make electronic music and due to circumstance this is my only monitor atm, yet it has enough depth and range to use professionally or casually imho. Really solid and tight construction. Reassuringly weighty with powerful little subs in either end. Charges fast and lasts ages on a full refill. This thing can also get really loud before the sound starts to distort. The bass can shake the room. Highly recommended and worth the money for anybody looking for a simple, powerful speaker to use on the go or at home.

The product has a decent battery life, good sound for the price, however, they don't allow battery replacements and have newer revisions to the model that make it harder to DIY battery replacement, which is usually required every two years. It would be nice if they had an output for audio as well, Bluetooth isn't perfect.

This is a brilliant little Bluetooth speaker. The overall sound quality from a speaker of it's size is phenomenal. The high and mid range sound is crisp and clear even at high volume. The only critique I have is that as an utter big bass head I would have preferred small digital sub woofers rather than passive radiators but the bass you get for the size is still significant. Battery life is up to 12 hours which is more than enough for the way I use it and it charges really quickly anyway. If you're looking for a small portable Bluetooth speaker with a big sound at a decent price then look no further.

Som muito bom, graves bem nítidos, dá impressão que tenho um som enorme dentro de casa. A bateria dura muito. Cheguei a usar mais de 5 horas seguidas com o volume em 70/80% e ainda tinha uns 65% de bateria quando fui carregar. Estou usando em casa faz uns 10 dias. Conecta fácil e rápido. Aqui tá dando um pouco de interferência para ouvir música de aplicativos de celular (Deezer) quando se está conectado à internet pelo wi-fi, mesmo estando na mesma sala que o modem. Esse interferência consiste em umas travadinhas na música, pequenos engasgos sempre no meio daquele refrão mais cantante. Não tive esse problema usando o 3G, preciso descobrir uma forma de resolver isso.

You can never go wrong purchasing a JBL product ..I have had a similar speaker for over 10 yrs and my daughter, who is 34 always wanted one, sooooo that was one of her Christmas gifts. The sound quality is amazing, with a good battery life. JBL has been around for decades you can always count on a quality product!!
