How does it handle the elements? Is it somewhat water protected or would I need to build an enclosure to protect it. Thanks

If you look close you will see the sticker on it states 10 watts. I couldn't even get that. It basically produces static not power worthless. I purchased over 50 and have tried to return them all.

The picture of the unit says max 36 volt??? Also is this bidirectional or multi-directional?

The max is 48 volts. The alternator produces 3-phase or AC power so it will produce the same output in either direction. It comes with a rectifier if you want to cahange the output to DC vvolts. Over all, it is solid built.
