This pocket-sized guide to the Birds of Namibia has been designed primarily for use in the field. It features some 340 of the region’s birds, particularly those most frequently seen, but including some that are sought after by birders. Concise text for each species gives key ID pointers in italics, and describes their call and favoured habitat. Accounts are accompanied by colour photographs of all the birds – selected to show their most obvious identifying features; where there is a marked difference, for example, between the sexes or between breeding and non-breeding plumage, more than one photograph has been included. Distribution maps are provided for all featured species. Light and handy for use in the field, this guide will give birders an excellent introduction to Namibia’s bird life. Review: Nice and simple book - Nice and simple book. I have a biology background, but this was a great book to use with my teenage kids and other travelers. Not overly large and easy to find your bird. Review: This is not the best book for people new to Namibian birds - This is not the best book for people new to Namibian birds. It would do better to have a raptor "overhead" section, and a way to more clearly mark the summer-only visitors. They also have some poor photos and omitted the ermomela--a common bird in most habitats.

Useful compact field guide
This book was what I wanted-a small sized field book to help assist me in identifying the regularly encountered birds in Namibia.

Ok for a 'not quite birding' trip
Good for common birds that you dont know, when on a winter animal safari. Light and quite easy to use in a hurry. Agree that underside views of raptors would be a good addition. Not up to a serious bird trip.
