I purchase and wanted to plug into my samsung phone. using 4 pole trrs connector. do you know if the phone powers the jack? same jack as the ear buds.

Should work. PC, cell phone and XBOX One controller supplies about 3VDC for "bias voltage". It's not "phantom power" is 48VDC. I have to test it myself on my old Android phone to be sure, but I just used one of these to convert my David Clark military helicopter headset for XBOX One using 3.5mm trrs plug, wired "CTIA" style pinout (same as Android cell phone) (I also had to change the speakers to 32Ohm speakers because original speakers were 90 Ohms!), and works on my older PC (with an adapter/splitter because my old PC has separate mic and headphone jacks. It works great, with no resistors or capacitors or external power needed for the PC or XBOX. I will update my test results for the Android phone, and the all-in-one PC later. My daughter has a HP all-in-one PC with a single CTIA jack. I will test it on her computer later.

Is this stranded or solid wire and what gauge?

The wires are stranded and tinned on the ends. Measuring with my calipers I pretty consistently get .25mm or 30 gauge. That's measuring the wire itself without the insulation.
