Highly recommended. - I used the 55-70 mile plan to train for both a Boston qualifier and then Boston. I ended up with a solid PR of 3:13 at age 52 at Boston. I think the book's information/explanation and training plans are excellent and will put you in a very good place on race day. My experience is that some of the speed work is difficult to hit in training... for example, I usually failed to be able to do the marathon pace runs at marathon pace, but tried to simply do them a little faster than usual. All in all though, this was exactly the book I needed to take my training and racing up a notch. Highly recommended. Review: Gret book, clearly explained - Great guidance. I trained myself following the reference in the book and I got a new PR in My 2nd Marathon

It is what it says
Great introduction to the art and science of distance running and a blueprint for a competitive marathon. Will look forward to seeing how well it pays off over the next weeks and months.

The Marathoning Bible
Reading this helped guide me to a marathon PR of 2:45 from 3:21. I still find myself going back to this book for reference. This book was basically my coach. Great purchase!

The perfect marathon training book for everyone
I have two marathons coming up just 7 weeks apart. While looking for training and racing advice for the short turnaround, I came across this book because it had a chapter dedicated to the quick turnaround. I ended up reading the whole book in a weekend. While most of the information repeated what I had learned in other books/research, this book does a great job breaking it down, making the science behind marathon training and racing easily accessible and relevant for every level of runner, from the beginner to the elite.

Great book
Really great book and what I think is a must have for any marathoner. If there are 2 books that are a must have for long distance runners, it is this one and Daniel’s Running Formula book.

This is a great book. Although I don't follow the training plans it offers, there are tons of ideas and explanations, surrounding numerous topics, that have helped me to improve as a runner. My biggest complaint with the book is their well-intentioned (but flawed) attempt to convert all the numbers to metric. As I live in a metric country myself I appreciate that all the distances have been converted. The problem is that, although all the distances have been converted, very few of the paces have been. Here is a prime example of what I mean. They write: "If you run a 22-miler (35km) at 40 seconds per mile slower than marathon pace [...]" Anybody or their grandmother can figure out in 2 seconds how far in km a 22 mile run is. But it is much less obvious how to figure out what "40 seconds per mile" is in km. I hope that in the next edition of this book they will take this idea into account.

I bought this book and followed the 18 week schedule that took me from 55 up to 70 miles per week. I followed the plan and advice religiously, hitting 99% of the miles prescribed and it got me a sub 3 hour marathon time in Edinburgh 2022. Sub 3 was a long held goal for me and I was absolutely delighted with it. The training schedules are tough but they get results, the book also offers loads of good advice and insight into nutrition, strength training, stretching, tactics etc etc. Great book. Thanks Mr Pfitzinger!
