Magpul MBUS PRO Steel Backup Sights

I purchased this along with the matching front sight. My primary requirement was something made of steel because the front sight was to be mounted on a gas block and needed to be able to withstand the heat. I wanted something that could fold down so that they wouldn't be in the way when using optics, and, naturally, something that would hold zero. One of the main reasons I chose the Magpul MBUS Pros is because I've used the excellent Magpul MBUS sights. One of the things that really impressed me about the original MBUS sights was their ability to hold zero. The other thing that impressed me was that they didn't seem to have any other major problems either(ie, randomly deploying). The other reasons I chose these sights were that they are made of steel, Magpul has a great reputation for producing quality products(my personal experience with Magpul products being quite positive), and they were reasonably priced. Unlike the MBUS, these do not have any form of automatic deployment(no push button pop-up). These are lower-profile than the MBUS. Most notably, they are much narrower. The profile of the rear sight makes it fit within the area above the charging handle latch on an M4 upper without any protrusion, which is very nice. Their low profile means they do not interfere with mounting options for optics. Both front(elevation) and rear(windage) sights are finger adjustable. The adjustments are fairly stiff - not so stiff that they are impossible to use, but enough so that I have no worries about anything moving over time. Also different from the MBUS, these are a melonite finished steel. The steel construction means they can stand up to the heat of being mounted on a gas block. I'm not terribly familiar with the melonite finish, but from what I gather it's supposed to be fairly durable. Four days ago I did a rough zero at 100 yards with these sights. Three days ago I ran a local three gun match using only these sights. Things tend not to get treated particularly well in three gun, so I think it makes a great proving ground. I didn't have any problems with changes in point of impact throughout the match, even between cold(beginning) and hot(end)(approximately 120 rounds throughout the match). The last of five stages involved steels at 100(x4), 300(x2), 400(x2), and 500(x2) yards. In 100 seconds I was able to score hits on all but the last steel at 500 yards using these sights(and I think I hit the first steel at 500 twice). I used the same gun in all of the preceding stages, meaning it had been moved between the rack and the case at each stage, and dumped four times prior to being used to engage targets at range. Over all I am very happy with their performance, and they certainly live up to the reputation that Magpul has garnered.

Hi guys, after using these Iron sights extensively, I would like to give my input to help others. I have this paired with the MBUS Pro LR Adjustable Rear Sight. These iron sights are some of the most accurate sights I've ever used. The front sight post on this sight is slightly slimmer than a regular A2 front sight post that comes on the standard AR. I feel that I can shoot more accurately with a slimmer front sight post because it doesn't cover the target as much. This is just my opinion though, others may not feel the same way, just because it's slimmer doesn't mean it's more accurate, it's more of a user preference. The best part about these sights, there's no need for any tools to adjust them which is just plain awesome and It has positive, sturdy adjustments. The build is very quality, EXTREMELY low profile and has a nice protective finish. It doesn't require any buttons to deploy or put back down which makes it much more simple and faster to use, but it's not as secure as other sights that have a locking system that keeps them deployed. With all that being said I chose these as my primary back-up sights and currently run these on my rifle over my troy battlesights which I really love. I just feel more accurate with these sights and they're very low profile and slim. I'll end this review with a few photos to give you guys an idea of the sight picture and how they look like on a rifle. Unlike others who may review this sight at a later date, I am not someone who owns a bunch of back up sights, as a matter of fact this sight is only the second front sight I have purchased for my rifle. Now that is out of the way, let me say that this sight is exactly what I was looking for and exactly what I expected from MagPul. Small, extremely light weight and 100% functional. You have to see it in person to realise how compact it is either flipped up or down. There is no fluff here, the sight doesn't extend or retract with a push of a button, you are forced to actually flip it up and down manually. Thats perfectly fine with me, as that lends to fewer parts to break. The primary reason I purchased this sight is because I mount my front sight on a gas block. The MagPul MBUS sight (as nice as it is) just won't stand up to the heat of repeated shooting when mounted to a gas block. Additionally, no tools are needed to adjust the elevation of this site, it uses a small thumbwheel to raise/lower the post. There is more than enough resistance with the thumbwheel to prevent the post from moving on its own as it takes a good amount of pressure to adjust the post.

This is the real deal. No Chinese counterfeits here. Works perfectly on the top of my UTG Pro M-Lok rail. It co-witnesses perfectly with my Vortex SPARC II red dot sight and MBUS Pro rear sight. The post is set to its thin profile by default. It is very precise and makes it easy to get tight groups out to 100 yards (the longest distance at my range). It was easy to adjust, but not so easy that it would lose zero after being banged around. Folded down this sight is very low profile and would not snag or get in the way at all. Folded up it stays tightly in place and does not move under recoil. This sight is very heavy duty and made from melonited steel. I have no doubt it will last forever.

Same as my review for the back sight as while they're separate items on Amazon they're most definitely used as a pair. I was hesitant to get the original polymer Magpul MBUS worrying they weren't sturdy enough or that the heat of the gas block, barrel or muzzle would cause the sights to melt and deform so the release of the Pro series was perfect for me. Pros: -Super easy to install, all you need is a screwdriver to set the one rail screw. -Elevation and windage adjustment knobs are pretty stiff so this makes them very unlikely to get changed unintentionally. Small downside is they're pretty brutal to change quickly. -The back sight features a quickly changeable two aperture size so you can flip it down to create a larger aperture ideal for closer ranges or flip it back up for a smaller more precise aperture for accuracy purposes. Cons: -Minor con is the adjustment knobs while perhaps intentionally stiff in order to prevent unintentional adjustments are pretty difficult to change. Bright side is I leave mine zeroed at a set distance and they're definitely staying that way, I'm not in the habit of constantly changing my zero distance.
