If there's no difference bwtween the two lenses, why does Amazon say this is newer?

I ordered the Sony - FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS Standard Zoom Lens (SEL24105G/2) from Amazon and just received it today. The box still says SEL24105G, so how do I know which version I got ?

Is this compatible to a6000?

The a6000 is an APS-C camera with an E Mount lens system. This lens is an FE lens which means it fits Sony E Mount but it’s optics are designed for full frame rather than APS-C cameras. So the effect you get will be a shift of the effective focal length. Instead of acting like a 25-105mm lens it will look like a 37.5-157.5mm and the f4 actually will be shifted slower as well because a lot of the light will fall outside of the APS-C sensor. This means you will get less bokeh and have to shoot at higher iso. So overall it should function but the stats will be somewhat different than advertised. You can buy a “focal reducer” which will restore the lens to the native range and improve the f value, but this is at the expense of autofocus and auto metering performance and a possible decrease in optical characteristics like sharpness.

The absolute fastest lens for Sony is the 50mm F1.2 GM. But usually focal length (which determines field of view) is also important, and there are a variety of focal-length lenses available in the F1.4 to F1.8 range that are only slightly slower.
