Great Netbook Speakers
I travel frequently, and carry a netbook with me everywhere I go. I hate the sound of the built-in speakers in laptops and netbooks and resorted to listening to music using earphones. However, being tied down with earphones or headphones while relaxing in a hotel room proved to be very inconvenient. I wanted good sounding speakers that were lightweight, easy to transport, with a volume loud enough to fill up a room. I didn't want to carry extra power supplies or batteries due to the extra weight (airlines are becoming very strict about the baggage weight limit and charging extra for being overweight). I purchased the Logitech V20 USB powered speakers about 4 months ago, as they seemed to meet my requirements. They were lightweight and came in a very nice carrying case, which protected the speakers when being transported in my check-in baggage. Because it is USB powered, it uses the netbook battery for power. No extra power supplies or batteries to carry for these speakers. I have a Samsung N110 netbook Samsung N110-12PBK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Cell Battery (9.5 Hours) , which is small, lightweight and easy to carry in my hand-carry bag, and has a very long battery life, so it runs the V20 speakers a long time at a good volume; over 6 hours on the netbook battery power. This is very handy during power outages as the speakers are not affected by it, using netbook battery power instead of external power. These speakers use one USB port on the netbook to operate. They work well and I've had no problems whatsoever. The only setup required is to plug the speakers into the netbook before opening the computer program you're going to listen to. This ensures that the sound goes to the V20 speakers instead of the netbook speakers. The sound is very good for such portable speakers. The bass is surprisingly good and the overall sound quality is good. I am really enjoying these speakers on my travels, listening to iTunes and internet radio. These speakers travel with me everywhere I go.

great speakers - poor controls
The positives: These are great speakers - fairly lightweight & compact with a well built carry case. The sound quality is great especially considering their relatively small size. Pleanty of bass which is what I like. The negatives: The controls (volume +/-, mute, etc.) are difficult to use - small (I have very large hands) and lacking in feedback so that you can't tell from the feel whether you have successfully made an input or not. A simple turning knob to turn on/off the sound and to adjust the sound seems like a far simpler way to accomplish these basic tasks. Design criteria 101 - first day of class ------- KISS (keep it simple stupid)! Re: Amazon - I had no difficulty at all returning the speakers "because there were things about them that I was not satisfied with) AND FULL CREDIT WAS ISSUED VERY PROMPTLY - 2 DAYS. NOTE: I took good care of the packaging when I unwrapped them in the first place and was careful to return them in the same condition in which they were received. Did this make a difference????????? Logitech make good products - I have several & I swear by them. Amazon is an exceellent company to do business with!

Logitech V20 Not Liking My MacBook Pro
While the sound of these speakers is fine, I'm having a lot of trouble getting them to be recognized by my MacBook Pro. I plug them in via the USB port, and then I wait...and I wait...and I wait. Sometimes my laptop recognizes them right away, but most often I have to unplug and try different USB ports before the speakers finally become recognized by my laptop. Once the speakers are recognized by my laptop, I find that sometimes I have to go into the System Preferences and manually switch from my interior speakers to these exterior speakers, and sometimes it just switches automagically. :-) I'm not sure what the issue is, but I just wish I could find a consistent fix, instead of standing there for 5 minutes waiting for the speakers and my MacBook to finally "talk to one another."

Best notebook speakers!!
In many of the reviews for these speakers, some seem to have forgotten that these are speakers for your notebook, not stationary PC speakers. I picked these speakers up when Logitech was running rebates, and I got them really cheap after rebate. I didn't even know about the existence of such "notebook speakers" so I decided to give it a try. The setup was incredibly easy, just plug into the USB slot and go. The sound coming out of these things are just absolutely amazing. In the laptop that I use and travel with, I have all my iTunes library is in the hard disk. I used to use Altec Lansing's iPod speakers, and they sounded pretty good, but when I am in a hotel room relaxed, I had to set up the iPod with speakers separate from my laptop and there were wires all over the place. I do work a lot in my hotel room, and I usually do use the iPod setup for music, but to navigate via iPod to select music was sort of difficult since I had to rotate the click wheel while the iPod is seated in the middle of the speakers. So, I started to use these V20 speakers instead. What a difference! I think the drivers used for these speakers can produce much more bass than my Altec Lansing, and now I can change the music while I am working on my laptop. When the music was playing too loud or have a lot of bass, the unit started shake and vibrate, and some bass was distorted, but I don't really care about that. They're just so much more convenient than those iPod speakers, and I can use those speakers to watch movies and even do presentation with a room full of people. So now I take my iPod for listening to music on the airplane or train, and use those V20 speakers listen to music while working. Now that I know how powerful and useful these things are, I feel very lucky to pick these up when Logitech was running the rebates, but had I known about these speakers before, I would have picked these speakers up at full price, since they're totally worth the list price. I've been recommending these for my colleagues, and anyone with laptop. If you're like me, who wants to listen to music while working on a laptop, these speakers are the best!!!

Very impressed! Even better than some "desktop" speakers out there.
I was bit skeptic at first of some poor reviews claiming this to have poor sound - they must be SUPER picky or their sound card must be messed up. I just got these speakers and I'm VERY impressed. These sound better than Logitech's X-240 2.1 speakers -- which is made for desktops -- and these "laptop speakers" actually sound way better than those! The X-240 sounds so muffled compared to these. The V20 has very nice clarity and has two drives on each speaker for more depth. I never felt like I was listening to surround sound with the X-240, but I get that feeling with these. Now if you're more of a complete bass-obsessed listener, then these may not be for you (don't get me wrong, there is plenty of bass with these speakers considering its size). If you prefer more clarity and treble with good amount of bass, then you'll be happy with these like me. Compared to the cheap "Pinto" built-in speakers that come with many laptops, these speakers are like having a "Mercedes". Some say the the media buttons on the speakers are hard to press, but I think it feels just fine. If the buttons were more loose to press, it would feel much cheaper and you'll experience accidentally hitting it more easily. You can play/pause, stop, back/forward, mute, volume up/down from the speakers. Pros: - Plug 'n Play with Windows XP (you may have driver problems with Macs) - USB powered - No need for batteries! - Very nice travel case. Easy to store away! - Compact - Fold-out stand - Speakers are NOT hard wired together (so you don't even have to plug in the left speaker to listen - and it still sounds good even with one speaker.) - Media controls on one of the speakers. - Blue LED to indicate that is powered; it will turn orange if you hit the mute button. - Good surround sound - Good amount of bass (not too overpowering) Cons: - It outputs sound through USB. (you better have enough USB ports on your laptop or an USB hub) Unless there's such a thing as a USB-to-3.5mm adapter, you won't be able to connect this to your portable mp3 player. I thought I could at least use the left speaker with my mp3 player, but the plug that's connected to the left speaker is not the standard 3.5mm plug; it's much thinner. This isn't really a con, since its main purpose is for computers, but it's nice to have multiple purposes. Still, I'll take USB over having clutter of connecting an AC adapter or replacing batteries! RECOMMENDED!

Wonderful notebook speakers!
I did much research before deciding on this set of speakers for my notebook computer. I wanted something sturdy, compact, and with excellent sound quality. They met all my conditions and impressed me by being even nicer than I expected for the price. They are really top quality speakers! The carrying case is well made and will easily fit into most laptop carry bags along with the power cord and wireless mouse many folks want to fit in their bags. From the time I unzip my carry bag, I can have everything up and running in less than five minutes. Someone else had commented that the speakers had a very weak mesh on the front. Perhaps they did not have this set of speakers because these have a metal mesh that is very durable and would take some bad sort of accident to puncture. Sound quality is very good as is volume. I read in another review that the sound quality was poor above 80%. Mine would drive me out of the room at 80% so I have not been able to test that statement out. One other thing I really like about these speakers is that they do not require to be connected to power. They just run off the USB port. For the price of these speakers, I doubt you will find anything nicer. Added comment in February 2013: The speakers are still performing well after several years of steady use, travel, and even a few falls off the table. These are definitely quality speakers and well worth the price. Even several years later, I am still quite happy with them and would recommend them to anyone wanting an attractive, affordable, quality speaker for their laptop.

Not up to Logitec's Usual Premium Sound.
I thought since all the reviews stated the sound was good, I was expecting something similiar to my very old set of Logitech's that I bought in 1989 at Service Merchandise! When I originally bought them, I didn't get the optional sub-woofer because that was another $200.00!! So for some expensive price I bought them and have had them on my pc ever since. They now reside on a secondary pc but are still the best sounding pc speakers for their size. The V20 is half a high, half as thin, about an inch narrower, and about 5% of the sound that the old one's have. ....clarity past 6 on the volume controls is such that they start crackling and sputtering....overdriven either through usb (which is 2.0) or the cone drivers are over driven. Might be that the cables need better shielding? I did expect them to not be as good as my origininal Logitecs, but this is way from worth the amount they are priced at...this is a good $20.00 product....thats ALL!!! I bought a set of Apple speakers at a yard sale for $1.00 that have more volume and clarity! I guess I could just make up some sort of portable kit to carry my orginal Logitech's with me. The IDEA is good, but like someone said, the cord is short..guess you can't lay back and listen while working on a couch or chair of bed. Not sure if I will return them, have to try on another laptop and another pc. I just needed a pair of good speaker take on the road with me for presentations, work in the hotel room, or in the car. Hmmm.... Maybe a set of good Wireless 6" speaker is what I need. Hope all that buy these have good ears because no real volume is capable with clarity of sound. Jim Voorhies

good speakers for the price
I bought these speaker for my mother, who has a Mac Mini. I tested them on my MacBook, and the sound was good. Acceptable for what you pay for these things. But not great. My biggest gripe was that I would get intermittent cracks and pops through the speakers when playing music, but it may be due to an underpowered USB bus on my laptop, (I have not tested them with any other machines, so it could just be my computer). These things are designed to be easy to set up and use, as well as to travel, but I found them a little too big for bringing them along on a trip. And, as for the sound, you're better off with a non-USB speaker system for the absolute best sound quality. For what they'll do for my mom, though, who does not listen to music and will use them only with skype and general web surfing, they're good enough.
