These are all about temperature management. Too obvious? I'm sure they're fine in mobile applications. I use them walking to the store for frozen goods. My BEST use is as auxiliary cooling for the refrigerators. Electricity rates rise, but we already know we're in for a 13-20 percent increase this summer. These packs 1. Help A LOT after loading in new groceries and bringing them down to temperature noticeably faster, AND 2. Providing your fridge with some real power assistance on the hottest days. You're running the freezer anyway. You're using the refrigeration energy twice! You rotate these to keep frozen ones in the fridge. And the fridge doesn't work as hard, cooling down more at night. I've never had one crack open, even dropping a frozen one on the floor. Yeah, they might freeze with a bulge, but that tells me I have a really cold pak. Mass. If I can't prove lower electricity bills, I CAN testify that my system will cool down a six-pack pretty quickly!

Just as to be expected small portable ice packs very convenient freeze fast last for a while not extremely long as they are pretty small. They fit nicely easily into lunchboxes or small bags and because they are plastic they’re very easy to clean if something gets spelt on them.

I bought these for my son’s lunchbox. They are a little larger than I would like, but they stay frozen for hours. I tested them to be sure. My son will not eat his lunch (cold things like yogurt and cheese and lunch meat) if it is not cold. He declared that he no longer likes peanut butter and jelly (and who can blame him after eating it everyday for the past two years!) so I have been brainstorming how to revamp his lunch. The skinny ice packs don’t stay frozen for any real length of time, so I decided to go old school and try the chunky ice packs. After an hour in his lunchbox by itself (sitting on the counter) this ice pack was still frozen. Then I forgot to set another timer to check in an hour…. About 4 hours later when I remembered to check it again the lunchbox was still cold and the ice pack was still mostly frozen; I could feel it was still solid in the middle though the outside liquid had melted. Win! 5 hours will definitely keep his lunch cold until lunch time! His lunchbox is a typical kids insulated lunchbox with a zip closure, but it has a hard plastic liner. I like that this is a 3 pack so I have extras for when he inevitably forgets to unpack it after school. I was disappointed to find that when frozen these ice packs bulge out in the center. One would think they would test that sort of thing during product design… I’m not a physicist, but I’m pretty sure it is predictable that water expands when it freezes…. Not a huge deal, only annoying. Anyway, I can’t say exactly how long these will stay frozen or if they will hold up in warmer temps. I think it will have a lot to do with the insulation of your container. But for a typical lunchbox, indoors, this will do nicely to keep your food cold until meal time. Update: I have been using these in my son’s lunchbox for about a month now. The other day he forgot to take care of his lunchbox when he returned from school and I found it several hours later. When I retrieved the ice pack to put it back in the freezer it was not frozen but it was still cold and so was the yogurt that he had not eaten! This was at maybe 8:30 at night. I pack his lunch around 6am. So there you go! 12+ hours later it was still cold!
