Yes.  It measures the "INR", which stands for International Normalized Ratio", i.e., a statistical comparison of your blood clotting time.  An acceptable range is between 2.0 and 3.0.  If you are taking Coumadin or Warfarin, for example, it would help you adjust your dosage and/or type of food intake to keep it in that range.  When/if the dosage is too high (above 3) you need to decrease the dosage, or risk internal bleeding, etc.  To decrease the INR one can take vitamin K or eat vegetable which contains vitamin K (like broccoli, or spinach, or brussel sprout) to cut it down;  when it is too low one can increase the dosage of the Warfarin.  A patient who needs to monitor his/her INR, while taking Warfarin needs to report or go to a clinic to measure it each time a reading is needed.  The Coagucheck unit allows one to measure his/her INR at home instead of going to a clinic.  Analogous to a glucose meter for measuring blood glucose for diabetics, one needs to buy  test strips and lancets for the measurement.  Medicare covers such expenses.  Check with your physician.
