The Count of Monte Cristo (Townsend Library Edition)

Great for a Book Club. Good read. Has stood the test of time.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! That may seem incredibly overboard and over-dramatic, but honestly, when a novel is about the intricately plotted revenge of a man who escapes one of the toughest and unforgiving prisons after being falsely accused for thirteen years, then I think I have the right be be a little over-dramatic. To me Dumas never gets old, his writing is always meticulous and sweeping and he never misses a beat when it comes to plot. Everything is so perfect and with all the identities that Dantes takes on throughout the novel, it's so important that the audience understand what is happening and who that English Gentlemen or Sinbad the Sailor really is and Dumas does it with style. If Dumas was alive today and I somehow finagled the chance to meet him, I would probably swoon and faint on the spot. He's amazing. His writing is SUPERB! READ THIS BOOK if you haven't already, and if you have read it, read it again and again and again because it's never the same but it's always delightful

May have missed seeing that this book is the abridged version. It is missing much of the detailed prose I was expecting, but OK if you are looking to abbreviate your read,

I love this classic. I think it's a must read for anyone. For me this is a book that makes you question the existence of God or a god. Edmond Dantes is without flaw, a truly good person, and his life is ruined because a) others envy him and b) he was the victim of an unfortunate coincidence. Even when he escapes prison and finds a monumental treasure, it is years before he finds peace (I dont think he ever finds happiness). The questions it raises are: why are good people so often punished by horrible tragedies when truly bad people are so often able to float through life with all the rewards that this world can bestow?

Spell pounding book that was hard to put down and was a real page Turner I'm starting to finish would recommend it to everyone has a must read

My favorite book in the world. Did you see the movie? This is literally a different story. No really, not in that "the movie isn't as good as the book" ways... the 2002 movie is great, but it's one of those "inspired by" stories. Get this, read this, soak it in, let it sit, then go back and read it again. Learn the machinations of one of literature's greatest antiheroes.

Print to small. Gave up reading hurt my eyes. Good story I've read in past wanted a review. Should've ordered big print.
