Product Description There's more to the Underworld universe than ever before! The Essential Collection includes all three films, and for the first time ever, exclusive original anime shorts. desertcart.com UnderworldBlade meets The Crow and The Matrix in Underworld, a hybrid thriller that rewrites the rulebook on werewolves and vampires. It's a "cuisinart" movie (blend a lot of familiar ideas and hope something interesting happens) in which immortal vampire "death dealers" wage an ancient war against "Lycans" (werewolves), who've got centuries of revenge--and some rather ambitious genetic experiments--on their lycanthropic agenda. Given his preoccupation with gloomy architecture (mostly filmed in Budapest, Hungary), frenetic mayhem and gothic costuming, it's no surprise that first-time director Len Wiseman gained experience in TV commercials and the art departments of Godzilla, Men in Black, and Independence Day. His work is all surface, no substance, filled with derivative, grand-scale action as conflicted vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale, who later became engaged to Wiseman) struggles to rescue an ill-fated human (Scott Speedman) from Lycan transformation. It's great looking all the way, and a guaranteed treat for horror buffs, who will eagerly dissect its many strengths and weaknesses. --Jeff ShannonUnderworld: Evolution Better action, a bit of sex, and gorier R-rated violence make Underworld: Evolution a reasonably satisfying sequel to 2003's surprise hit Underworld. Looking stunning as ever in her black leather battle gear, Kate Beckinsale is every goth guy's fantasy as Selene, the vampire "death dealer" who's now fighting to stop the release of the original "Lycan" werewolf, William (Brian Steele) from the prison that's held him for centuries. As we learn from the film's action-packed prologue, William and his brother Marcus (Tony Curran) began the bloodline of vampires and werewolves, and after witnessing centuries of warfare between them, their immortal father Corvinus (Derek Jacobi) now seeks Selene and the human vampire/lycan hybrid Michael (Scott Speedman) to put an end to the war perpetuated by Victor (Bill Nighy), the vampire warrior whose betrayal of Selene turns Underworld: Evolution into an epic tale of familial revenge. This ambitious attempt at Shakespearean horror is compromised by a script (by Danny McBride and returning director Len Wiseman, Beckinsale's real-life husband) that's more confusing than it needs to be, with too many characters and not enough storytelling detail to flesh them all out. Aspiring to greatness and falling well short of that goal, Underworld: Evolution succeeds instead as a full-throttle action/horror thriller, with enough swordplay, gunplay, and CGI monsters to justify the continuation of the Underworld franchise. If you're an established fan, this is a must-see movie; if not, well... at least it's better than Van Helsing! --Jeff ShannonUnderworld: Rise of the LycansThis prequel to Len Wiseman’s Underworld and Underworld: Evolution is distinctively different, especially minus the nimble vampire warrior star, Selene (Kate Beckinsale). Underworld: Rise of the Lycans takes its cues from the vampire/werewolf battles that occur in the other films, but director Patrick Tatopoulos focuses here on the young werewolf Lucian's (Michael Sheen) rise to leadership. Rise of the Lycans is set mostly within the walls of vampire lord Viktor’s (Bill Nighy) castle, so the film’s silver, black, and blue palette reflects a world happening under moonlight. From the outset, when Viktor brings Lucian, the first werewolf, into the world, this villainous bloodsucker’s daughter, Sonja (Rhona Mitra), is smitten with Lucian’s hairy appearance and instinctual intelligence. As years pass, Lucian grows tired of watching his race suffer slavery and imprisonment, and recruits a human named Raze (Kevin Grevioux) to assist rebellion. This archetypal plot is not so riveting, and what carries Underworld: Rise of the Lycans are the battle scenes between vampires and werewolves, which are excitingly fast-paced and brutal. The whole film adopts a medieval battlefield aesthetic that carries an otherwise clichéd story about illicit love and freedom fighting. Some characters, like the traitor vampire Tannis (Steven Mackintosh), also intrigues throughout, as one guesses who he will ally with. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans may not be the finest film in the werewolf and vampire archives independently, but its mixed monstrosity makes it unique and entertaining, especially on a big screen. --Trinie Dalton Review: Great Package. Ultraviolet works on iPad/iPhone - Now that the movie deal is over, I thought I should update my review. TL;DR: Movies are awesome, watch Ultraviolet copies offline on iPad/iPhone using Flixter App This review is for the Underworld Blu-ray Trilogy ( Underworld Trilogy (Underworld / Underworld: Evolution / Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) [Blu-ray ]) that includes the unrated extended version of the first Underworld and a bonus disc of material. As others reviewers have mentioned this movies looks and sounds incredibly good on Blu-ray and I'm sure you will not regret purchasing this box-set. If you're on the fence about buying this, I really can't recommend it enough, even if you're new to Underworld, you'll get immediately 'hooked' to this great movie franchise. As far as the Ultraviolet digital version of the movies, I don't love it, but it works OK. A lot of people complained that Ultraviolet was only for streaming, but I was able to download the movies to my computer with no issues (it worked on my Mac but I imagine it should work on PC as well). If you want to download to you iPad/iPhone you need to use an application called Flixter (The app is called Movies on Android -> Movies ) and then you need to create an account at the Flixter website ([...]) and link it to your Ultraviolet account and voila! you can download your movies to you iPad/iPhone or Android device for offline viewing (no internet connection required). Review: There Are Vampires In These Films? - Not gonna lie... there's a part of me that watches these for the "Kate Beckinsale" factor. But these are, seriously, some awesome movies. I owned the first two on DVD but I'm really not a video- or audio-phile, so I can't really tell you what percentage better the picture or sound quality is. All three movies looked beautiful, though, and if you already own the movies on DVD, I'd say it's worth the upgrade. I got these as part of desertcart's weekly blu-ray deal-of-the-week, but they'd have been a welcome part of my collection at full price. I'm still not sure which movie I like best. I was a bit put off by "Rise of the Lycans" becuase of it's notable lack of Kate Beckinsale, but I do like it a lot. Like most people, I watched them in their release order the first time. But after getting the blu-rays, I watched them in chronological order. MUCH BETTER. Also, it doesn't feel like you're losing Kate Beckinsale... you GAINING her. :P

Trilogy Plus One
Absolutely RIVETING! Each Video kept me breathlessly waiting for the next brilliant move. I couldn't believe the story line. Most of these are so boringly done to death that you buy the video more for the captivating picture on the cover than for the actual DVD content. I didn't even know who the actors were who played in this DVD. I had never heard of them. I still haven't. I couldn't tell you their names if you asked me. I now own all 4 of the set. I assume there are no more. If there are more, someone please say something, for I will die never knowing unless I stumble across it. That is exactly how I found these. It was a stumble. Looking for the best price. I am a cheapskate. I have to be. I live on next to nothing and spend only what I must to eat. The rest goes to my video library. Walmart sometimes has a $2.98 Blu-Ray bin at the back of the store. I will take my WalMart wheelchair and go back there, and sit for maybe 2 hrs. straightening up that bin, getting it all arranged real pretty in return, it gives me a chance to dig all the way down in there to see what they have and whether it's worth digging for. They are almost all 2 movies per disc and they want a review for each disc so a lot of them are first timers, but sometimes, u get good ones. That is where I found the fourth issue of this series which led me to you and that is why I "got off the subject",.Or so you thought. I would not have come to Amazon and spent the money on the Trilogy even though the price was not only amazingly fair, it was surprisingly so. I fully expected to pay double what I did, and would have done so. If I may be so bold as to make an advertising suggestion, if there is a legal way to use the Walmart price for the fourth in the set as a lead to your Trilogy set, I would get on it as soon as possible and ride that horse till it dies. And please, if there are more, LET ME KNOW! Sooner rather than later. Thank you, Annette Jones

I've just made the switch to BluRay and ordered a few trilogy box sets. To be honest, I don't think the Underworld films are the best showcase for the improved definition that Bluray brings, mainly because most scenes are generally shot at night, or in the dark. I suppose this is expected, considering it's all about vampires and werewolves - they tend not to be too keen on daylight! The first two films are brilliant - a stylish take on a centuries-old war between werewolves and vampires. I won't elaborate here on the plot, just in case you haven't seen the films yet, but it reminds me of a cross between Blade and Matrix - if you liked both those, I reckon you'll like these too. The third film, though, is a waste of time - basically strikes me as an opportunity they've taken to milk the franchise for as much as possible. It's set before the first two, so you already know how it's going to end and there's absolutely nothing in it to surprise you. And to top it off, there's no Kate Beckinsale. Kate basically IS Underworld and it just doesn't seem to be the same without her. Even Bill Nighy can't save it. So, I'd definitely recommend the first two films, but not the third. If you think of the boxset as actually being two films, and you can square that away in your mind for the price, then you won't feel cheated when you watch the third. Oh, I can't comment on the extras, because I never watch them. I really don't waant to know how they made the films - spoils it when I watch them again.
