Awesome Drill
I bought this drill to replace my 15 yr old Bosch. I am a Bosch man for sure, but I have always been fond of Dewalt tools as well. I was considering the similarly priced Bosch drill on here, but it has a plastic chuck, and though I know it really isn't that big of a deal, something about all metal chuck makes me more comfortable. Maybe that's just me, but that's what sold me on this drill, that and it's a 7 amp versus the Bosch. So I decided to give this drill a shot and I must say I am very happy. I expected it to be good, but I knew that I was only paying $50, so I didn't expect top of the line, but this drill has FAR exceeded expectations! Metal or wood this thing just powers through, and it is SOLID! It's a heavy drill, but not over the top, I like a bit heavier drill for leverage when drilling down. The built in level isn't a bad idea, I don't use it much since I'm used to not having it and it's pretty small so it's not the most helpful, but I definitely like having it for the holes that are important to have straight. The cord is very thick and durable. I don't use cordless tools very often because I hate running out of power and most of my work is interior framing and things where there is a power supply nearby, so I appreciate a good cord. This one is a nice heavily insulated rubber cord with a burly plug on the end, a good thing for the jobsite! There is a lot I could say about this thing, but the bottom line is that it's a great drill, and this price is freaking outstanding!!! If you're looking for that well rounded powerful durable drill, this is what you've been looking for. Period.

Best drill I've ever owned
I was recently working on a project that required drilling lots of countersunk pilot holes and drilling pocket holes with a Kreg jig. I had a Black and Decker drill and a Craftsman with two batteries. I was having to constantly rotate between the drills and batteries because they would lose torque once the batteries started to get a little low. The drills would wobble while drilling the countersunk holes, and I thought this was just my unsteady hands. Halfway through the project the Craftsman drill started to spark and pour smoke out of it so I came to Amazon looking for a replacement. I started out looking for another cordless and was looking at the more high end brands like Dewalt, Bosch, Makita, but their cordless drills were all awfully expensive, remembering what a pain waiting on charging batteries was I decided to check out corded drills and found this beauty. This is an incredibly high quality tool for the money. Upon opening the box, the drill feels heavy, but not a make your arms tired heavy, a good solid well built tool heavy. The little details like the all metal chuck, built in level level, long cord, and soft grips are immediately noticeable. I plugged it into an extension cord and went to work. It drilled beautifully with the countersink bit without any wobble at all, to my surprise it wasn't my unsteady hands, it was cheaper inferior drills that had been the problem! Some have mentioned the trigger being a little too responsive, but I found with a little practice I was able to control the speed easily and being able to adjust speed on the fly with a trigger is much more convenient that using those adjustment rings on other drills. The cord was never a problem, it never got in the way, and I never even noticed it once I got in a rhythm. I loved being able to finish the entire project without having to change batteries or take a break while i wait for a charge. I will keep a cordless drill on hand in case of having to drill in an odd location, but for serious projects I'm never going back to a cordless drill again.

Great drill
This is the second one of these I have bought. Bought a slightly different model of the same drill 10+ years ago. It’s strong and has a great high end speed that I need. Also the graduated speed trigger works very well. I like it better than my cordless drills (except for the cord itself of course.)

Solid drill for the money but has a few drawbacks.
I do a lot of carpentry and house hold projects. So much so, that I burned up a Black and Decker drill. (Black smoke was pouring out of it and it smelled terrible) I bought this one as it was recommended by a friend who is a Dewalt fan. I already had a Dewalt Table Saw that I am very happy with so I bought this drill. As soon as I got it, I got to work on the same project that had burned my last drill up. This Dewalt drill easily powered through the project with room to spare. The drill is powerful enough that it could possibly bring your wrist if it became hung during a drill. The attached wire is secure and fairly thick so it can handle the required power. Pro's Very reliable so far, even on a project that burned up a Black and Decker drill. Very strong and powerful Cord is thick and securely attached Con's Leveling bubble is in a terrible place and if you are drilling above your mouth level, the leveling bubble can not be seen at all. This could have been easily fixed by putting a second small bubble in front of the trigger on the bottom. No chuck key so it's hand tightened drill bits

Great drill! Trigger provides great control over variable speed
I was a bit hesitant to buy this drill because so many people seemed to think the trigger was way too sensitive. All I have to say to those people is, "have you ever used any sort of remotely sensitive piece of equipment?" I'm no contractor and I'd hardly consider myself even a handyman, but I found the trigger extremely easy to use to manage the speed. It is quite variable, and the speed adjusts smoothly from the fully open position all the way in to fully depressed (ie, the more you squeeze the faster it spins). I just thought that was worth noting, because I thought the trigger response was exceptional and I'm not sure how else you'd design it to have an easier way to manage the rpm's??? Other than that, the drill itself is great. It has a ridiculous amount of power, from the cheap-o brand drill that I was used to. Wasn't paying attention and I almost put a screw head all the way through a piece of 3/4" plywood. I was waiting for a little resistance or for the drill to start bogging and when I looked to see if the screw was in all the way it was actually almost all the way through the other side. Very powerful. I think this thing will last for a LONG time. Very happy with it. I've always like traditional locking chucks but I've been happy with this one so far. You can hear it clicking as it ratchets shut, and I haven't had any problems at all with the bit slipping. Drilled a 3/8" hole through over 8" of solid hardwood tonight without so much as a hiccup. Also, for what it's worth, this model (DWD112) DOES have a small bubble level. Played around with it a bit and I'm not sure how useful it actually will be, but it does have one.

Long time user loves DeWalt drills.
A good electric drill is the single most useful power tool any homeowner can own. 28 years ago I bought a nearly identical DeWalt drill and it still works perfectly. I built a front and back decks, shelves, drilled masonry and worked on hundreds of woodworking and repair projects with that bad boy. Unfortunately time (or chemicals?) made the insulation on the old DeWalt cord crumble in hundreds of spots so I decided to splurge on a brand new DeWalt drill. The new DeWalt DWD112 8.0 amp 3/8" drill is almost identical to the old drill with some modest improvements. They've done away with that annoying, time-consuming chuck key and gone with a keyless chuck. I've never used one before and we'll see how it stands the test of time, but right now I like it. I wish it had a LED light on the front, but they still haven't incorporated this feature. The cord is made from a different rubberized material that hopefully won't deteriorate. The drill is still made from the same VERY tough highly-visible plastic though they added some grippy rubberized material on the front and handle. They retained the handy belt clip design and the same useful bubble levels on the top rear. The drill still reverses with a simple switch on the trigger. I noticed was that this new drill seems to have more torque than the old one. Man, when I pull the trigger I really notice a kick, promising lots of working power. Some reviewers seem to have a problem controlling the speed for screws, but mine works fine. If you are a homeowner or even a contractor needing a reliable medium-sized drill, the DeWalt DWD112 earns a solid five stars.

Nice Drill - Variable Speed, Reversible, Solid Feel, Works Great - VERY Happy
Would buy it all over again. Feels solid and well balanced in the hand. Revs up and down nicely. Chuck is very nice to use as keyless and operated by hand. When tightening there are some "clicks" at the last few degrees of turn to alert it is tight. I read other comments about the trigger and the ability for variable speed. I have NO issue at all and find the trigger and the variable speed to go well together. The variability is in the first half of the trigger pull and the top end is in the second half so you don't have to grab the trigger like a fiend to get the top end to be steady. Yet, there is plenty of throw in the first half of the trigger pull to get the variability needed. Anyone who has used variable speed drills for screwing or drilling will find this drill VERY capable and usable. I personally do not prefer to store in an individual case so I am pleased to save my dollars and not buy a case. For those who want a case, you need to ensure you get the right model number that comes with a case. This one, to my happiness, does not. Lastly, I stay away from low speed drills (down around 1000 - 1500 RPM) because they do not work fast enough for me. I like the higher speed (2500 RPM) and the high torque (from 8 Amp motor) which makes this drill very capable.

Powerful, sturdy & priced right!
The DEWALT DWD112 is a basic no-frills corded drill, shipping without case or bits. Weighing in at four pounds it boasts serious heft, baring witness to the heavy duty components, while making it easier to hold steady than lighter drills. The pistol style handle is comfy, grippy and well balanced. A keyless metal chuck makes for quick bit changes and inspires more confidence than the plastic-metal hybrid chuck on my Craftsman. The DWD112 only has a few settings: forward, reverse and 0-2500 variable RPM. However, that 8-amp motor is amazingly powerful, drilling through concrete, hardwood and metal lickety-split, difficult to impossible materials for my rechargeable Craftsman. It has a bit of a hair trigger, going 0 to 2500 rpm at moment's notice, so practice on scrap wood before starting a project. If you accelerate too fast the torque causes the drill to kick or twist if you're not braced. However, once I got used to the trigger, I could easily control acceleration and hold steady at any speed between 0 and 2500. You can drive screws with the DWD112 but it's not optimal: too powerful for most screws and no clutch to prevent overdriving or striping screws. My rechargeable 500 RPM Craftsman is better for driver duty. Plus, working with two drills--one for bits and the other for driving--is fast and efficient. All in all a great basic drill: powerful, heavy-duty build, balanced and priced right.

Note: this is a USA 110V (approx) drill
I haven't had a chance to use this drill yet. For other potential buyers - note that this is an American drill. The only reference made for this on the British amazon.co.uk site is under the voltage of the drill (which states that it is 120V). I missed this small detail and purchased the drill. I've now had to buy a step-down transformer and make up some adapter connections to be able to use this drill. I'm still in the process of making the adapters so can't comment, as yet, on whether the drill is any good.
