Is the outer part of the plug shielded from the core?

No it's not, and the other answers that say it is shielded are incorrect. I used a meter to measure the resistance between the pin and the outer and it was below what my meter could measure, so it's all metal and fully conducting. I returned my plugs because of this, but it's a shame as otherwise they are well-made.

Will these fit sony str-dn1080 reciever

That’s what I bought them for. They are a good tight fit and make it very easy if you have to move speakers or the amplifier.

Hi, yes they are colour coded. The manufacturer name is white (left) on one and red (right) on the other. Decent plugs.

What is the outer jacket made from, is it anodized aluminium?

As far as I know it's plated gold. That's what they're advertised as. They seem to be of good quality though, neat and tidy when hooked up. Hope this helps.
